  1. I was out of town for the MoWest scrimmage how did it go?
  2. I hope that did not hinder his stat taking abilities. I personally believe that WB has the best stat boy in all of Tennessee. For him to have to take stat outside is in an outrage. Surely with that new press box will come with a new air conditioner. In all seriousness, I am ready for the season to start up. The word around the halls of WB yesterday were that the scrimmage against Morristown is being moved to WB this Friday.
  3. 1. Defense - I think that WB will have a very though defense this year. They will have a great crew of linebackers this year led by Irwin and Lail, I am excited to get watch garland return to the field – he is a very tough player. Also added this year to the linebacker crew will be Spencer Brown, a transfer from Heritage during his freshman year – he sat out last year I believe. I have heard rumors of 3-5 defense this could be exciting. 2. Offense – During the scrimmage WB ran some 5-wide sets. This is something that I haven’t seen out of WB in a long time. Darren Garner ran around everybody – he will be fun to watch this year. Vineyard looked liked a good quarterback playing for Tyler (baseball). It looks like WB has had some new people come out to the team to play a little receiver. Brad Cochran will provide some height and amazing athletic ability. I also saw Roger Cunningham on the sidelines – I think if Roger go out for the wrestling and golf teams he will have played on every team that WB has to offer – great athlete. The O-line does look big and strong – Greene, Madden, and Jackson are all huge guys that will help Tyler out if they are in fact going to go to a throwing offense.
  4. why is this that we do not "deserve" a winning team?
  5. Wow, what a game. I could not be more proud of my Govs. Lucas looked very good, especially on the option play that he did to perfection. I would have to say that the best part of the game, for me anyway, was seeing Hamilton bring down that interception. I loved the way he ran to the sideline afterwards, no trash talking or anything like that. I have the upmost respect for the way he plays the game. Hamilton had a very solid game tonight all around it seemed. The Walker boy's all had good games. I think the gov's need to work on those personal fouls before next week if they stand a chance against those mighty Rebs.
  6. I have heard that WB's center was hurt during practice the other day, is there any truth to this? If so, does anyone know how long he will be out for?
  7. GovMan - Do you have a synopsis on the game? I was there for the first half. We seem to look good, but I don't know how good Northwest is. Lucas seems to have improved tremendously over the summer. How did they look in your expert opinion?
  8. I went to WB for four years and I am currently involved with an organization that gives me the privilege to interact with the students from William Blount on a weekly basis. Many of these people that I have the honor to be around and hang out with are African-American, and I can assure you that African-Americans are not treated any differently than White students by the faculty or the administration. But, as far as the students go at WB - teenagers are going to be teenagers. I caught a lot of slack and was called names in high school for the things I did and the way I looked. Everyone that walks the halls of a public school will catch some kind of scrutiny. I sometimes fell as if William Blount has gotten a bad name because of the allegations that were made last school year. I, after talking to many students, faculty, and the administration, think that the media might have blown the story far beyond the truth of what actually happened. I love William Blount High School, and it saddens me that so many people think of it as a "bad school" just because of the actions of a few stupid kids.
  9. At the end of last year I was talking to Jordan Glasgow and he seemed to be pretty excited about coming out for the football team. Did he decide not to, or did Baumann decide for him, I wander why he did not play this year? I think that he would have made a good reciever, fast and tall is a deadly combo.
  10. You say that used to love running out on to the field with the flags flying, but does that mean everyone shared your same emotion? Carl Stewart (former Maryville player) wrote a response in the Maryville Daily Times about how he used to hate running on to the field with the entire student section waving the confederate flag. Just because it gave use some since of heigthend euphoria does not mean it does everyone. To an African-American the same symbol that is used by many of the racial groups (anti-black) in America being used as your schools flag seems a little degrading to not only to him or herself but to the entire African-American community in Maryville and Alcoa.
  11. And the ultimate achievement would be what?
  12. William Blount and Heritage are not even close to the caliber football team that Alcoa is. Alcoa has at least 5 D1 prospects on their team, William Blount and Heritage may have 1 between the two programs. Both WB and Heritage are making an attempt to build there programs up to a respectable level. This would be very hard to do while playing the toughest not region games in the state (Alcoa, Maryville, Central). So instead of criticizing WB and Heritage constantly about being "afraid" to play Alcoa maybe you should give them some praise for making an attempt to salvage a program that might one day be a very good team.
  13. You said that Walker beat Alcoa's best player. It seems to me that Alcoa's best players competed in the events prior to the running (Lindsey-pass, Fiegler-punt, and Warran-Kick). So I would assume that saying that Brad beat Alcoa's best player would be a little bit of an exaggeration. And on your comments about coach Reid (assuming that you are talking about Reid)"cussing" at WB's team, did you hear this with your own ears or was this something that someone else told you or better yet is it something you just made up in an effort to hurt this mans credibility and honor?
  14. I have seen both teams play several times this year. With that said I believe that Maryville wins Friday night with ease. Heritage beating Maryville early this season was a fluke and will not happen agian. William Blount proved there loss to Heritage early was a fluke and so will Maryville.
  15. Say for instance the time expires after a shot has the left the hand of the shooter, the ball bounces on the court then goes in without touching anyone in the process, does the basket count?
  16. I did not see the entire game. All I got to see was the end of the 4th quarter. with Wabout :20 senconds left William Blount is up 2 after Puleo hit a 3 pointer. After the time runs down Heritage get the ball still down by 2 with close to :07 left, Cait got the ball and with no time left drained a 3 from the top of the arc. I am sure both performed great for their teams. I do not think Fowler (William Blount's coach) can be mad at his team at all. They played a great game against a great team and almost came away with a victory. They did everything they had to do to win the game except stop Cait on that final shot, but what are what else could you do except foul her and hope she misses one.
  17. Although never "officially" named governor of Tennessee, William Blount was appointed governor over the territory south of the Ohio River (present day Tennessee). William Blount is also where Blount County gets its name from. Mary Blount, William's wife, is where the city Maryville gets its name from. You say that "Governors" is a stupid name. I say that comment is stupid. You obviously think that honoring a man that played a tremendous role in forming our state is, as you say, stupid. I think that you might want to rethink your comment.
  18. Eakins is one of the best three point shooter I have ever seen in Blount County, second to lee Humphrey. He can pull up anywhere with fairly good accuracy. A name that most don't know is Mark McGill, he has a tremendous shot. He is only a sophomore I believe. After he matures a little I believe he will be a great basketball player. He forces a lot of shots that don't need to be taken. I am sure the GovMan could offer a lot more insight on the shooting capabilities of the Governors better than anyone.
  19. I was not able to attend the game. From what I understand it was fairly good game. Who did good for WB? Was it all Aaron Eakins or did some others step up? How did I our post players do? South Doyle sounds as if they have a good team this year. Congratulations on the win and good luck the rest of the way.
  20. I have not heard anything about South Doyle this year. How are they doing thus far? Blount has come out pretty good this year. They had a good first half against Maryville on Friday night, but did horrible in the third and fourth quarters. Blount's biggest downfall is its post players; they are not big at all. Granted they are very fundamental in there play, but I noticed in the Maryville game that they did get pushed around a lot, and Maryville doesn't have any big guys themselves.
  21. WB Looked awful? It is hard to say that WB looked awful when they were up by 11 at the half. WB did go cold in the second half, and Maryville got the chance to make there run. But, I do not think they looked awful. Just my opinion.
  22. Will Carson Newman be playing Maryville at home or in Maryville this year. I know they played in Maryville last year. I would love to watch Tipton and Bobby Golden playing on the same court again. Bobby is having a very good season at Maryville. dheat, You are correct Mcgill is not scared to shoot the ball, and he connects with most of his shots. I have never saw him play baseball. Is he as a pitcher as he is shooter?
  23. McGill and Comapany? Hope you are not talking about Mark Mcgill. Not to take anything away from Mark, he is a great player, but I do not think he is worthy of that type remark. Again nothing against Mark, he has a great shot and one day could be a wonderful player. I believe that WB will cliam victory Friday night. I believe that they have a better starting five than Maryville. Maryville's bench might be a little better. Is Koontz starting this year? If not he will be a tremendous 6th man.
  24. WB girls beat Maryville girls Don't know about HHS and Alcoa girls WB lost to Maryville in the guys game, both teams looked good. William Blount did not play there starters long at all. It was a very physical game, lots of fouls. Maryville looked like they had some very athletic guys, they had some big blocks. These two teams will make for some good regular season games. Did not stay for the Heritage and Alcoa game.
  25. High School Basketball ... I love it. GovMan I could not agree with you more about Koontz. The way people are talking on here it doesn't sound like he is going to get the chance to start. If this is the case he will be a tremendous 6th man. He can sure light up. Has a great shot. I believe that Glasgow will be able to hold his own in the post. He got lots of playing time last year, and he has got a lot better since last season. Alcoa might be hurting a little, I believe till December when they bring home the championship in football. I am excitied about the Jamboree tonight. Should be the beginning of four great seasons for blount county basketball.
