  1. Anybody have the AP poll? I did see this: http://greenevillesun.com/index.php?templa...p;newsid=136367
  2. Do you think he can recruit someone to coach these guys?
  3. A real coach knows. The winningest coach knows. Quote from October 19, 2006 CSTV.com. Knight also came out strong against AAU summer league basketball. "I think the thing that hurts the college recruit the most is AAU basketball," Knight said. "A recruit plays at 7:00 in the morning and gets beat. He plays again at 1 in the afternoon and gets beat. He plays at 4 right after that and loses again, and he's got to play more games tomorrow. It becomes more about playing basketball than it does playing basketball and winning. You've got to play in the summer. But you should play in your hometown with your friends and teammates, and you'll play because you like to play and it's something you want to do."
  4. I'm calling BS on eliteball and trotter. You can dispute it, but facts are facts. You want to work together in peace and harmony for the good of the kids, then get the heck out of the high school season. Don't just say it, do it. Elite tryouts right in prime time for high schools. Just prior to or during District tournaments. Ladytrotter tournament during primetime for high school summer camps. AAU thinking is a bit like radical Islamic thinking. As long as you come around to their way of thinking, there are few problems. Watch what they do, more than what they say. Sorry boys, I know this is going to sting a little. b]The Memphis Lady Elite and West Tn Flight will be holding tryouts for its Spring/Summer AAU teams on February 11 for ages 9-13 and February 25 for ages 14-16. All tryouts will be held at the Finch Center on the campus of the University of Memphis, located at the corner of Spottwood and Echles. More information is available at memphisladyelite.org. 5. They may be good fellers, but compliments alone don't pay the bills. Coach Lowe is more than prepared to be a head coach. He is loyal to FCS, but don't be surprised if other schools don't come a courtin' him. They may be now. People have noticed how well that defense has played this year. And in the past. Insiders know just how valuable he has been to their success. It didn't just happen accidentally. Better get the checkbook out and pay him what he is worth. Fair warning. You heard it here first.
  6. Well said WHS55. Westmoreland should be proud of you. And here's the good and bad news. The wins and losses get magnified as you age. They blur a little, details get confused, yet it stays with you. Forever. But you will be grateful for it all. Even the bad stuff. It will make you a better person. Trust me. There is nothing to compare with the high school football experience. Good luck to you. Your post hit a nerve here.
  7. Closer than expected my friends. South Pitt 24 Gordy 19
  8. I hate to put it all on one kid, but I think the single most important factor is the play of the FCS QB. He doesn't have to be spectacular, but he has to be able to make some plays when needed. I think TCHS will put 8 or more in the box and dare FCS to throw. I think their primary emphasis will be on taking Rickaway away. He is a bigtime 1A running back. They know it. TCHS will try to avoid the big play and force FCS to drive the ball over 60 yards. Turnovers, and field position will be crucial. Duh. Like always in football. Especially so this game. The best thing TCHS has going for it is experience and tradition. Don't underrate it. It matters. FCS has been solid on defense. Well prepared and well coached. They will be ready. The pressure is on the FCS offense, talented as they may be. They laid an egg against Gordonsville last week after a fast start. If the best team wins, FCS will prevail. At least this week. I would not rule out the possibility of these two meeting again in a few weeks. Biggest deal is home field advantage to winner. That is big. These are 2 good teams. I'm guessing Friendship. 21-13. But what do I know?
  9. I understand the chain of command Admiral. I won't give you any lip. You might like this if you havent seen it already. 2 great men and coaches. Can we agree on that? http://www.zwire.com/site/news.cfm?newsid=...69688&rfi=6
  10. Well, I agree with you Mailman. But your two new transfers and their parents don't agree with us, and thats why you'll be cheering for them instead of against them this year.
  11. I'm surprised you were able to hear any dead Bear Bryant jokes with your head so far up inside Coach S's tail. Someone must have been speaking pretty loud. Listen man, I was going to regret it if I didn't reply. I'm real sorry too.
  12. Exactly. 1936 - Bryant is hired at Union College in Tennessee to install the Notre Dame Box offense. He's making $170 a month when Frank Thomas calls him home to Alabama as an assistant coach, paying him $1,250 a year. Daughter Mae Martin is born. 1940 - Bryant goes to Vanderbilt as an assistant coach to Red Sanders after being recommended by sports writer and close personal friend Fred Russell. Bryant helps the Commodores upset the Tide 7-0 in 1941.
  13. Paul Bryant. As a Vanderbilt assistant in the 40's. And in the 50's, 60's, 70's, and 80's when he would drop by to thump UT and VU. In fact, he was the best in any state he ever entered. RIP Bear. There won't be any more like you.
  14. scoreboard is wrong. Lebanon won 20-7
  15. And Albert Haynesworth put the foot back in football today. How much to send all these clowns back to Houston? I'll buy 10 one-way bus tickets my ownself.
  16. Perfect. Age 12 is early enough to start.
  17. Giles and others better beat Ensworth now. They won't be able to when they get their program established. They will be a future powerhouse and will win multiple state championships. And they will drain oodles of talent away from the other Nashville privates. Already are. And I think Ricky Bowers and George Quarles are the two best football coaches in Tennessee. City beats country in this "battle of the unbeatens." Shocks the bigones experts too.
  18. Yeah, we ran the counter option and I pitched to Nat for the 2 pt conversion. You might be a pretty good historian, but you aint much punkin as a speller. I see the ghosts of Watertown past shrieking like banshees as they emerge from the hedge tonight. Purple passion flows all over Main street tonight. Yee-haw. But the rich, cocky, silver-spooned lads win tonight. Big.
  19. Wow, Orangecrush you are like a walking encyclopedia of FCS history. You must be a former cheerleader or something. Tell Eddie if he wants to keep up with Wilson County athletics, he should subscribe to the Lebanon Democrat.
  20. Kerry Collins is simply a band-aid on a festering sore.
  21. Tennessee Titans = Tennessee Volunteers Fat, happy, lazy, undisciplined, arrested. Problems are multiple. Solutions start at the top. Might require coaching change at both places to improve. People just want to see an honest day's work for an honest day's pay (millions of $$$) Both embarrass the state. I used to read the sports page first. Now I check the front page first so I can check on the latest player developments. Biggest difference between the 2 teams is that the Titans dont have 2 or 3 cupcakes on the schedule. Titans looking at a 3-13 or 4-12 season. And dont ask me who they'll beat. Some other fat, happy, lazy, undisciplined, arrested NFL teams I suppose.
