  1. Before the game tonight, I talked to someone who worked with him many times over the years. She talked about what a great guy he was, and how he is someone you would definitely want working with your child if he or she had to have surgery. Said it would be hard to find someone better. He was definitely a character on here, but apparently a great guy in life.
  2. Yeah, I had said basically the same thing on that play.
  3. ^^This. I guess when I mentioned the gauntlet after tonight, I was mainly referring to the R3/R4 guys. They'll pound on each other then have to contend with York/Bledsoe in the semis.
  4. Commissioner, don't go getting them bulldogs riled up. If we lose tonight then our season will be over. You think I'm joking ...
  5. Whoever makes it, 2A East is going to be a gauntlet after tonight.
  6. Yep, that was the team that didn't make it in '08. And Chambers was on the '99 team, so he's the only one to win the award and the state in the same year.
  7. Correct. On top of that, we have only had one winner during a year when we didn't make it to the championship game - 2008. We only had 1 winner in a year when we won it all - 1999.
  8. Film? I'd be surprised if 90% of the voters have even seen one highlight from any of these kids to be honest. As for stats, for some reason South Pittsburg has never posted then anywhere, no matter who the coach was. But yes, even though stats do not always tell you the story, they do help voters who have never seen them play. I think the biggest reason that you see players from certain teams always on the ballot is due to tradition and history. When SP is doing well, they will almost always have someone on the list. If Greenback or Lake County are doing well, you will see them with players on the list as well due to their history in A/1A. Just a little rambling on my part here that has nothing to do with the quoted post, but is just in reference to people who think South Pittsburg has been overrepresented in Mr. Football. This will be the 40th year that they are giving away this trophy. 23 of those years they gave away two, one for a lineman and one for a back. So, for each classification, there have been 63 trophies awarded in 40 years. For a breakdown, during this same period of time, South Pittsburg has been to the state championship 12 times, winning 6 of them. 6 is also the number of Mr. Football winners they have had out of the 63 trophies given out. So, they have been to 30% of the championship games, won 15% and had UNDER 10% of the Mr. Football winners. Looking at that, it doesn't appear to me that South Pittsburg is overrepresented in the Mr football awards.
  9. They're kept under lock and key in a vault with a security system that would make Fort Knox jealous. Seriously though, SP doesn't have stats readily available online. Besides, I don't think their stats would blow you away, it's more their ability and the way they play than what the numbers indicate. With that said, I fully expect it to come down to Surber and Adams. But, I wouldn't mind seeing McDougal take it home. He's a good ball player with heart and a head for the game.
  10. Got a few myself. Some were accidental as I fat fingered a couple though

  12. I think longbeard will agree that any team can be beaten on any given night. I really want to take the G-men in this one, but the injury situation is why I can't. Good luck, I would like to see you all once more before you move up.
  13. Cosby Oliver Springs Harriman Coalfield Arrrrgh Chatt Prep Whitwell Clay County Richland McEwen Eagleville McKenzie Union City Memphis Middle South Fulton MASE 2A picks will come later on
  14. If this is true, then I don't see what all of the fuss is about. If the kids aren't able to play sports, then they shouldn't be counted. No flag on the play. Touchdown stands.
  15. I'd like to see Gordonsville win for 2 reasons. They are moving up next year, so our long history of playing them in the playoffs will be put on hiatus. I don't want to play Prep again. If we play like we played last night then we should win, but I don't want to take that chance.
  16. OZ and Coalfield will meet again in the quarterfinals. I think OZ takes this one easily.
  17. Congrats buddy. Now put on your big boy britches because I'm in for the playoff version! (As long as I don't forget to make my picks again)
  18. Some did pick the Pirates to be third. Whitwell and C-Prep were picked by many to be the top two. And let's face it, the Pirate team we saw in week one was a 3rd place team at best. The job that the staff has done, and the way the boys have responded has been amazing.
  19. Because there could be a three way tie for first place. In that scenario, the team with the best record is first ... which would be Meigs.
  20. Corners will be tested for sure, but I've been more and more impressed with Bibbs as the season has gone on. He gives up some size, but he usually gets in the right place to make a play.
