  1. Only Richland advances in the regionals, but they have a good shot at winning the region.
  2. So did district 10 ballerz..whats the point? McEwen and CA were from the same district and eliminated district 9 in the regions. Tyler Rice made Wayne County..plain and simple. On a neutral court or even a night he was not hitting Wayne County might have not even made it to state.
  3. I would caution looking at any of the teams remaining on how they played one game if that was the first time you watched them play. I am not from Clarksville or a fan of CA, but I had the pleasure of watching them play 5 times this year. They can be trapped and pressed and I agree their guards are role players, but if they are hitting some 3's which I have seen them get hot, they are tough to match up against. Malcolm Smith is the real deal and based on what I have read here it seems he was not on his "A" game yesterday. I personally witnessed him hit about 13 free throws one night and I think he has excellent skills for his size. I also witnessed him get a rebound, dribble it the length of the court and dunk it. If their guards can keep there composure, I like their chances. I also had the luxury of watching Wayne County this year and the game played out like I thought it would. I thought Wayne County would give them fits in their aggressive trapping press, just wasn't sure how tight the officials would be calling the game. Tyler Rice is very very impressive when his shots are falling and he is a tough match up for any team with his size and speed. Look forward to the next round of games.
  4. Smith boys will score at will in the middle vs. Wayne Co. If Tyler Rice is not on fire again, this will be a long game for them.
  5. McEwen? I thought their basketball team was on the same talent level as their football team. Let's hope WC feels this way and is looking past us !!
  6. Big Walt and the Wilson twins made all tourney for McEwen. Great game to both teams and a big shout out to Clarksville Academy for a well played game. It was great to see them win with class! McEwen boys I am proud of you all and you laid it out on the line...that 3rd quarter killed you guys but you never stopped fighting. Good luck to both teams in substate. Have your "A" game on Big Red for those Rice boys down in Waynesboro! Maybe we can do a part 5 in Murfreesboro.
  7. I hope she is ok. That was a terrible loss and she was playing a great game. She was definitely the leader on the floor for Cascade and a great player. She is in our prayers here in McEwen.
  8. Good description of what happened Mercury. Sometimes teams get away from what got them the lead and they are not comfortable doing it. I thought Heritage did a good job of taking the game into control coming out of half time and taking a good lead into the 4th. Then they just got silly. They stopped dribble penetration and tried to bleed the clock. Several bad turnovers and missing those 1 and 1's were a killer. I think McEwen got a time out called after the 3 pointer which Petrone was upset about. I think he felt the ball got put into play before the bench got the timeout. Any how I thought it was a great ballgame to watch as a spectator and both teams showed their strengths and weaknesses.
  9. Yes they played. Was a great game. McEwen hit a 3 to take the lead with 5.8 seconds left.
  10. I was at the McEwen- Houston County game also and I do not think the outcome will be much different at Houston County except the score will be closer. I think Houston County has all the tools to be a good team, but they did not handle the press very well. I thought the McEwen team was balanced well and they have numerous ball handlers who can dribble their way out of pressure. From what I have seen though, Houston County is the best opportunity for them to lose a game.
  11. Brighton and Morristown West would be big fans of your argument that 5-5 teams are "non-deserving".
  12. The East Robertson teams of 87, 88 and 89 were very good especially the 87 team.
  13. To be more exact a vote WAS made to consolidate the two schools against the will and wishes of the town and good folks from McEwen. A court injunction put a halt to this. That year McEwen had a VERY good football team that was to open the season against Waverly. McEwen was forced to forfeit that game to Waverly 2-0. I think folks in McEwen dug in hard with the attitude if you can't play us when we have good teams that will beat you, then we won't play you at all. Those hard feelings were around for many years. And what's pitching a b.....???? Showing pride for your town and your school? We like having our own school even if it requires getting your hand me downs...but thats opening a whole other can.
  14. Been out of town and late reading this thread. Correct me if I am wrong RedDevil88, but wasn't Jo Byrns a member of 8A in 1985? McEwen went 10-0 with a win over JBHS to win the District that year so a loss to TPS didn't cost ya the district. Scooter Edwards would have been a senior in the class of 90' and he was one heck of a running back. Pretty good nose guard too.
  15. I think it's 35 years. His 2nd stint in McEwen started in 83'
  16. Didn't JBS go to state in the mid 80's when the Sherrod (sp?) kid was playing? My memory fails me more and more often these days /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />. Best of my recollection they lost to East Robertson.
  17. Props to WHH they played a very good dominating game tonight. #5 is one heck of a QB both passing and running the ball. We just had no answers for him. Was an enjoyable game to watch even on the losing end.
  18. I can't comment on what happened after the game with the lights as I was long gone, but don't come on here and paint a picture of Cascade being "angels". There was alot of jawing and taunting going on both ways. I guess you missed that go ahead touchdown by Cascade when the RB waited for the DB to get up and taunted all the way around him. I will agree with you the pass into the corner of the endzone should have been called for interference, but it did not change the fact you still got a touchdown out of the drive. You guys seemed to be taking late shots all night on the quarterback. If I was an official I would have tossed #8 when he yanked his helmet off and was jawing at the officials.....good thing the coach got him to the sidelines and straightened him out. When your watching the DVD about how bad the officiating is make sure to catch the hold on the counter where ya got the 70 yard run. You will find it, holes that big that were not there all night generally are there for a reason in the middle. Overall, was a good physical game and Cascade has some huge players, but they are not ready to overthrow the Red Devils yet. Just because you did not blow McEwen out like you thought you would do not say the officiating was the reason. Both teams moved the ball well and had long time consuming drives. Give some credit to McEwen for making a game out of this since they do have a decent team.
  19. Flip the field back to the old configuration and get those tobacco barns smoking and watch the Big Red run. I think thats why you guys changed everything up to help confuse us Warriors. In all seriousness, JBHS has a very good and entertaining team to watch. I was looking forward to going to this game and seeing some old friends, but not going be able to make it. JBHS was always a fun team to play against and of all my fond memories always showed the best sportsmanship of any team I can remember playing. Keep it clean and stay safe. Go warriors !!!!
  20. So are you saying your were a senior in 88' or was a member of that team? What number were you? Mine was insignificant Bruceton can be a tough place to play. I remember the days when they were dominating everyone....even my beloved Warriors. Was a good battle in 87 and a dog fight in 88 when Bruceton went 10-0, much closer than the final score.
  21. Who knows what happened to our kicking game. It went south and has been there for a long time now. Its often overlooked but one of the most important aspects of the game. We always had good kickers when I played (had a kicker who could nail 48 yarders in a game), but haven't seen anyone with any consistency in a long time. We also ran the same play on 2 pt conversions that they attempted in OT. Whatever happened to putting the ball on the left hash and allowing the RB to outrun the defense to the corner? As for this week, this should be another hard hitting defensive game. I am impressed with our defense and I think they can keep Bruceton in check. Pass defense is still suspect, but Bruceton is a run first team. I like our depth at running back and taking the Warriors in this one 12-7.
  22. What a fantastic game!!! I hope to see all region games this competitive this year. Forrest showed a lot of heart going down 14-0 before halftime. The Dominique kid is a wonderful running back...nice speed and very slippery. I do think the Warriors beat themselves tonight though. The fumbled snap on the punt is the difference in this game being 14-7 McEwen and the game going into overtime. I am very curious to find out how many penalties were called against McEwen in this game. 4 in the final drive in regulation when they were able to get into Forrest territory. Forrest has a good team and props to them for not letting their heads get down. I will say though if ya stop #7 you stop Forrest. Fantastic game and I hope Forrest has a safe trip home. To you Warriors. Keep your heads up. You have the foundation to be a very good team. There are alot of improvements to be done first though. You guys are way too predictable in your offensive scheme. Smash mouth football running the same plays over and over will only get you so far and you saw Forrest make the necessary adjustments after halftime to slow down your running game. You have a nice athlete at QB and some good receivers. Let him make some plays. You really must work on your kicking game as it is beyond atrocious. It contributed to this loss as you guys are unable to make any PAT's. Your defense is very good and reminds me of some of the teams from the past, but you guys MUST protect the corners as you allowed #7 to burn you right before half which gave Forrest life again.
  23. Hey this is not true!! We had some dominating teams back in the 80's and put tons of points on the board. Ask Chuck Earhart about our offense . I believe we tacked 37 on JBS at your home field in 88 during a torential rainstorm. Not that it matters today, but your comment is way off to us old timers. Good luck to both teams and keep your heads up win or lose. Should be a great game.
