Has Covington hired a new head coach yet?

I played in the fling twice when it was in Chatt. and had a great experience both years. The fields were so-so, but one thing about it was the atmosphere. All the news covered that week was the fling. They gave every score from every game in every sport. The section of the local paper that covered the fling was as thick as the Commercial Appeal, and everywhere you went that was all that people were talking about. They covered the tournaments very well and made it a great memorable trip for all that were involved. No matter where the fling moves next, some people are going to complain about having to travel. But as far as I am concerned, that is what was the most memorable thing, esp. as a senior getting to spend that last week with your teammates. You were together for one last week, and for that week they truly were your family, not just your teammates. If any other city can give you that atmosphere, that city has my vote whether it be in West, Middle, or East. Just where ever it goes, let's try to crown ALL state champs in the state of TENNESSEE.

That is a hard call to make. It may not be the ump's place to take action, but someone has to, whether it be the ump, the coach, or where were the kids parents? I know how intense the state tournament is. I played on the Covington 99 state championship team as well as the 2000 state runner up team, but no matter how intense the tournament is that was completly unacceptable. It is still only just a game. Had that ever happened playing for Coach Pavatte, that player would have never touched a baseball field again, no matter who it was. Not to mention if I had ever done something like that the ump or coach would have been the least of my problems, my parents would have been the first and last ones to get me. Someone has to take disciplinary action in that situation.

Thanks a lot for the constant updates... I really wanted to go to the game, but had to work. The updates were greatly appreciated.

DL beat covington 13-0, Then Covington lost the elimination game to Loudon 6-1, so DL plays Loudon tomorrow to go to the ship on fri. Loudon has to beat DL twice. Sorry if I confused you the first time

talent wise, they are pretty good, but heart and and the fact they are gonna fight and claw till the bitter end makes them so tough to beat

I was at the DL Covington game today, and all I can tell you hold on for dear life. That may be the BEST hitting high school baseball team I have ever seen

y one when there are three games at each site, but like today at U of M, the first game started at 12, the second 45 minutes after the first ended then that site was done for the day. It's not like they gave them time to rest, so why not play those games at 5 and 7, they are not gonna let them rest regardless. But I agree with you that they do have to play some early.

WellI live and work in Memphis, and it is still hard to know what is going on because they play everything at 10 am or noon. Its not like the fields that are hosting the games don't have lights. Play the games at 5 and 7 not 10 and 12, they would get a lot better crowds. The Memphis area would support the tournament a lot better if they didn't have to use vacation time to go to games.

I am from Covington and I agree that is a possibility, if and only if Covington throws Mathis in game 1. I was in knoxville this weekend and watched the Loudon game. And if Everett is on the mound for Loudon, Covington has to hold them to 1 or 2 runs to win. Mathis is the only arm in Cov. rotation that could do that.

Covington defeated MC 1-0 in 7 innings.

Just left USA Stadium in Millington. Milan won the early game, don't know the score. Covington defeated MC 12-1. They play again tonight at 6.

Covington's local station is 93.5 fm. They will be airing the ball game, but are a weak statiion. Good luck picking them up.

Being that JAC is #2 in the STATE in The Big One's Contest, (and ahead of me) I must conclude that he has a very informed opinion. I would like to nominate him to be on the TSSAA governing board.

I just received word, this afternoon, that legendary West Tennessee football coach, Jack Cain passed away this afternoon in the Jackson, TN hospital. Coach Cain spent his career at Covington and Humboldt High Schools. He will be missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family

Went to the Gibson County / Covington game Friday night/ Just wondering, what's the story about the man sitting on the field in a lawn chair under the goal posts?

Covington could only schedule 9 games last year. This is the 2nd year of a 2 year contract. Rumor has it that Milan and Haywood County have been scheduled for next year. Don't know what team from this season was dropped. This should strenghten the schedule for next season.
