  1. Well, I'm not gonna say anything bad about any of these guys b/c I know most of them. .... But, I grew up listening to John Ward in the fall and winter and Jack Buck in the summer. My biggest problem as a fan listening to a game -- and this is not the fault of the announcers but just my own personal problem -- is that I want everyone of those guys to sound like Ward or Buck. Now, had those two radio giants not been around and all I had as a kid were Bill (Mush-mouth) Anderson and Mike (Pass Another Cold, Frosty Bud) Shannon, then anyone would sound great by comparison.
  2. I like your alignment a lot better than what the T$$AA will come up with. They'll probably put UC, SF, Halls and LC in a region with FA and Manassas. Ya know, that splendid Hwy. 51 is just too good to pass up.
  3. It could be worse. This could be the STEWART COUNTY Rebels we're talking about. Sorry, just a little jab at my SC buddies. .... By the way, about those cookouts at the games, I can sell people those grills.
  4. You are correct, my Chattanooga-based relative! A lot of those bowl games in the 1970s and 1980s were much better than many first-round games now. It used to be a big deal to have that bowl patch on your letter jacket. (Where's your letter jacket, by the way, ol' Chatt-boy!!) .... Anybody wanting a bowl game now has to fork over plenty of scratch to the fine folks at the T$$AA.
  5. With your switch of Regions 2 and 3, you've got a good scenario there. Moving Stewart County over to Region 5 makes sense, since it is conceivable that currently SC could play a team EAST of Chattanooga in the opening round of the playoffs (If, that is, SC ever makes the playoffs ). Trying to sell your plan to the T$$AA??? Well ..... good luck.
  6. I saw Covington struggle against Obion Central, which was on the field when Gibson County ended its 38-game losing streak. .... I'll take Milan by two TDs
  7. Why don't you take that West-hating crap and shove it. Save that disrespect for another state, maybe one of the eight that border us. We have too much trouble in Tennessee with insurgents coming in and stealing all that TennCare money without your crap, too.
  8. The fact that moving Camden into Middle Tenn is so stupid is exactly why the Lords of the T$$AA will do it. I really think they HATE rural West Tenn. over there in Hermitage.
  9. Don't matter what no map says. When T$$AA can put rural NW Tenn. teams in same regions with inner-city Memphis teams -- bypassing many natural rivalries along the way, then something's wrong somewhere. Ain't fair to rural NW Tenn. Ain't fair to Memphis. Hey, T$$AA Lords: this time ... DO THE RIGHT THING!!!
  10. I'm supposed to be impressed by Hot-lanta??? You and Ted Turner can have it. .... That's the problem with threads like this. Goobs like you have to come in a go hatin' on a college team and its traditions. This is a HIGH SCHOOL post. Maybe since you probably didn't graduate from one, you don't know what it is. ... Atlanta?!?!? Heck, I'd rather live in Jackson, Miss.
  11. Well, since Union City will be dropping to 1A, I'll do a 1A-type schedule that brings in gate money and good competition. (Thus, I'll be excluding games with teams who will likely be region opponents next year) Week 1: Mayfield, Ky. -- This just makes sense. Week 2: Lake County -- In decades past, one of the top games in W.Tenn. Week 3: USJ -- now that they're 2A and we're 1A, maybe we can play ball Week 4: Milan -- Oh, why not?!? Week 5: Obion Central -- It's Fall Fest, Football & County rivals. Let's Get It On!! Week 6: Bruceton -- Tradition vs. Tradition. Happy Days Are Here Again! Week 7: Huntingdon -- Was a pretty good rivalry in late 1990s. Good gate. Week 8: McKenzie -- Let's get this game going again. Week 9: Stewart Co. -- w/ this sked, they'll need a breather sometime Week 10: South Fulton -- close with your new 1A county neighbor If Mayfield is unavailable for some reason, go after Murray, Ky. I think they'll be making a coaching change this year and might be interested in upgrading their schedule. Yes, I left off Westview and Humboldt on purpose. Just not enough weeks. Just a little jab at my pals at Stewart County. Principal there is a UC alum.
  12. Oh, come on now! .... You know the Dolphins aren't in your league!!!
  13. I agree that Union City will be a tough team to beat in 1A next year. They've got a really good Jr. class and some of the lower classes, including this year's undefeated Middle School team with some solid 8th-graders, will give that program some depth and talent for many years to come. .... Should be fun to watch b/c all the programs in W. Tenn will be much improved next year. McKenzie coming down also adds to the quality.
  14. Well, I know Covington, Ripley and Brighton are probably locks for Region 7. One team not going is Obion Central, which is still winless in the region after upset losses to perennial doormats Gibson County and Dyer County.
  15. If they can't beat'em, then cry about'em. Sounds like a lot of people jealous of Maryville's success. Me? I'm in NW Tenn, but I'd love to watch The Big M play sometime ... well, I'm going to The 'Boro to watch the title games, so I'll see M-ville there.
  16. Who out there has the toughest boys' basketball schedule in the state?? For a small, about-to-be-Class A school in northwest Tennessee, Union City has a pretty darn tough one, I think. The Golden Tornadoes will play at Ripley and at Fayette-Ware in Hall of Fame games (more money for the T$$AA), home-and-homes with Class AAA's Dyersburg and Henry County as well as AA tough team Covington, games in the Lexington Invitational and the Calloway County, Ky., Tournament, and oh yeah, the Poplar Bluff, Mo., Classic. In case you don't know about the Poplar Bluff event, lemme give ya a little 4-1-1 on this year's hoop-a-palooza: UC will open up against St. Louis Vashon, which finished ranked No. 10 in final USA Today poll last season after winning the Mo. 4A state title with a 31-0 record. Vashon, under coach Floyd Irons (791 wins, 9 state titles in his Vashon career), has won four state titles in the last five years. Poplar Bluff was the Mo. 5A state champ last year with a 25-6 record. The Mules are 75-15 in last three years. The PB Classic also has Memphis East and Austin-East. Talk about an athletic director's dream schedule. If fans don't come watch UC against this schedule, then they need their heads examined.
  17. Memphis area is loaded again this year ... a real hotbed of basketball .... now, if UT could sign just some of those guys listed, then maybe they'd do better than 15-14 and 1-and-done in the NIT
  18. Figures you're a Georgia guy. Didn't know you bumpkins had 'puters. ..... 19-14 ..... Why don't you kick a puppy and drown a baby while you're at it, ya hater.
  19. Gee, coach Rockne, thanks for that insight. ... I'm sure you have your application ready to send in when BA decides to the fire the man who will soon be the winningest coach in Tennessee football history.
  20. And, finally ... Some other points: 1.) Yes, it seems like all school bands play Rocky Top. And, yes, most play it badly. 2.) A bad version of Rocky Top is better than a good version of Michigan's song any day. .... Why don't you yankees go back to your ice fishing and hockey and leave the real sports to the real men. That's the problem with living in a state bordered by eight others ... too many insurgents. And, if y'all are native Southerners cheering for yankee teams, you need to be b-slapped until you get your mind right.
  21. Tequila, huh?? At H.S. football games?? Sounds like your band director has a bit of a problem. Maybe AA would help. .... Also, sounds like your school has an image problem. Maybe a pink slip would help.
  22. How do you Bama fans get on here anyway??? I didn't know you had electricity, much less outlets to plug in your 'puters. .... Here you are mouthing off, and your head coach ain't even smart enough to protect his starting QB (a very over-rated one at that) in a blowout game. Get off probation, quit using the same song Florida uses, put away you're stupid little sticks with a Tide box and toilet paper on it, and go back to your outhouse.
  23. NWTennSports

    Dresden

eatdirt. .... you sound like a politician begging for votes b/c you're down in the polls (you related to that wimp Kerry???) .... Anyway, let's take your post into context. You talked about being 7-0 and getting no respect. Expand on that, if you will, to include Week 10, when you played a 1-8 team and lost. No disrespect, though. Now, someone close this silly thread.
  24. Here's all you need to know about Ballard Memorial: Fulton City beat them
  25. It's hard to say whether or not UC has turned the corner and even harder to say that it will translate into wins with Westview, Huntindgon and Dresden remaining .... but, the best offensive output since the final week of the 2001 regular season (49-12 over Dresden) is certainly cause for celebration. The BIG WIN over Humboldt on Friday is a great way to go into an off week. That should build some confidence and add a little hop to the step of every player. Now, they need to work hard, concentrate on getting better and be motivated about being a winning football team the rest of the season.
