  1. I do think the new coaching staff will make a big difference.
  2. One of the middle schools, the other is not very good. I believe that is the difference. Rucker has been at the top or near the top of the county for the last several years, but that has not translated to success at the high school. Beech has two solid middle school programs as feeder programs. I believe that makes a big difference.
  3. HC had some boys running the ball that were tough to bring down, if youre adding a "starting RB" to that mix Id be excited as a fan as well. Full disclosure though Beech was missing its starting center who anchors their OL and played most of the game without their starting FB/LB. It will be fun if we happen to meet again in the playoffs.
  4. Both teams come in a little banged up and still trying to figure some things out on offense. Ill give the edge to the Bucs because of experience and Shackle Island Stadium 24-14
  5. If they can overcome injuries and replace the back end of the defense.
  6. Might not even be the best team in their district.
  7. From the outside looking in, he is definitely the most physically capable of the 4 or 5 QBs they run out there. For whatever reason the caching staff must not trust him. If Im not mistaken the only snaps he saw Friday night were at fullback.
  8. Probably just written that way to differentiate Houston and Houston County.
  9. Do you care to elaborate?
  10. I am afraid, beyond Mt Juliet, that District 9AAA's stay in the post season will be short lived. I do hope Im wrong though.
  11. Because no one is talking about 9AAA basketball
  12. I believe he owes all of his skills to his middle school OL coach
  13. Most are going to have tryouts for the following year before school is out.
  14. Anyone know tournament schedule?
  15. Bucs take care of the Green Wave over on Shackle Island.
  16. Any word on the Beech opening?
  17. Looking for team camps or play days this summer in the middle tn area.
  18. My only problem with this system is the early district match ups. I dont think teams from the same district should before the 3rd round.
  19. I know very little about the current staff's abilities but I think its fair to say that the talent in Portland is not at the 5A caliber yet. I think the proof is in the fact the big three (football, basketball and baseball) have all struggled since the reclassification.
  20. It is a shame that the umps got this wrong, but Championship teams find a way. The Warriors didnt have to let the umps mistake turn into four runs. The pitcher could have made a pitch or somebody in the field could have made a play and got of the mess without so much damage being done.
  21. I dont see what the big deal is. Its a way for the kids to stay in the game. As long as they are encouraging their team and not saying things to the other team let them say what they want. Its not my style personally, but to say its disrespecting the game is a little much. Baseball is meant to be a joyous game. Let them express that joy in whatever manner they please. If you think it is a little girly then beat them like the girls you think they are. I know as a coach, I would rather have to calm my bench down every once in a while than beg them to get into the game. And think about this, if it bothered you enough to start this thread then you were probably thinking about it during the game last night. And if youre thinking about them cheering, then youre not thinking about whatever your responsibilities are.
  22. He was coaching that same "already winning-prepped team" at the beginning of the season when those comments were made on this thread. So it sounds to me when the team struggled (most in the state would like to stuggle like Harpeth) it was the coaching, but when they started playing well it is simply because of the team he inherited. I understand the cupboard was pretty full when he arrived, but I still think the cook deserves a little credit.
  23. For a coach who cant get his players to "respond", has "no clue how to motivate", is "an idiot for disciplining his players", and "has coached the girls out of reaching their potential" I would say Coach Johnson has done a pretty good job this season. He avoided the "Sycamore sweep" and instead his team swept the season and tourney titles. I guess he was able to handle the "internal factors" and keep his team from "imploding". If I had to guess the "lovefest" has continued past December and will continue for years to come. Congrats to the Lady Indians and Coach J
