  1. Overton has a talent laden zone where many if not most of the best players attend private schools. Half of their student population are immigrants and don't even know what football is. However, Terry Anderson and his staff have maintained a classy, consistent team which is always competitive. Anyone that knocks the Overton program is either ill-informed or just not telling the truth. There are 13 schools that play football in the public school system in Davidson County. None are named metro. Each school has unique challenges that most coaches could not handle. Not many coaches could match the success that Overton has achieved with the given obstacles. Overton plays 6A football with essentially 3A population of possible players, and they don't have special transfers from other zones. Terry takes what is given to him, coaches them the right way, and remains solid always and very successful this year. Private schools can be selective with their student body and recruit talent. Counties around Davidson have yet to experience the impact of a large student population that does not speak English and how this impacts test scores, which impacts the focus of administrators. Terry Anderson and his staff would be undefeated at Oakland and at Ensworth. Those staffs would not be undefeated at Overton. Give this man and his team credit where the credit is due.
  2. They grew up together in Maplewood zone... Somebody tell Pearl-Cohn that GraMar is not their feeder school... PC should win, Maplewood will win.
  3. If we rank the head coaches, Anderson of Overton and Clayton of Hillsboro are head and shoulders above the rest. Spears of Hillwood and Gore of McGavock next level. Both are solid. Peden of Antioch comes from good stock and will have a good staff, especially if his Dad assists. Parks of Cane Ridge changed the losing ways year one, interesting to see how they do this year. Easley of Glencliff is still unproven. Murray has never had a winning season and is the third guy in 4 years to lead Hunters Lane, who went from first to worst in a hurry. Talent level and depth of talent: Antioch, Cane Ridge first. Hillsboro, McGavock, Overton next. Hunters Lane next. Then Glencliff. Then Hillwood. Anderson and Spears do the most with what they have. Clayton and Parks had impressive debuts last year. Peden had a lot to do with Antioch's recent success. One old man's prediction: 1 Overton 2 Antioch 3 Hillsboro 4 McGavock 5 Cane Ridge 6 Hillwood 7 Hunters Lane 8 Glencliff
  4. Not Slick Willie... ??? Come on man... ... ...
  5. BA will now challenge Ensworth. Coach Smith is a winner.
  6. MCGavock graduate, asst at HL, head coach at Maplewood before west TN work. He will work hard and win when he has talent. Good guy.
  7. Athletics is no longer a priority in metro, Most principals are not qualified to hire coaches nor is this a significant aspect of their job. Their jobs hinge solely on test scores and public perception. This may never change for the better. I foresee club teams, AAU, etc taking over in metro for the children unable to attend other schools. Private schools in the Nashville area are fluorishing primarily due to metro's ineptness. The surrounding counties have had an influx of talent as well. I commend those teachers and coaches in metro schools trying to hang on to what once was. For many kids, you are their only chance. As for Whites Creek, a school once rich in tradition athletically, I hope someone understands the importance of hiring a proper leader for the community to look up to in football and now boys basketball as well.
  8. New program? Coach for America? "Teach for America" is ruining the honorable profession of teaching. Perhaps now corners will be cut, loopholes created, and advantages given for unprepared, undeserving, unprofessionals on the athletic fields similar to those in our classrooms...
  9. The truth is, if Pearl-Cohn had to play only with players in their zone, they wouldn't have enough to play with. They recruit from all over the county. This includes incoming 9th graders (GraMar, SCA, and Bailey are not your feeder schools)as well as transfers from Hillsboro, Ensworth, Maplewood, Whites Creek, Hillwood, Stratford, and McGavock. One particular alumnus brokers more kids than most pro agents. He and one assistant seem to know every middle schooler in town that can play. This is pathetic. High school football coaching is supposed to be about taking the players you have and working with them, not acquiring the most talent and just turning them loose. Follow that up with lying to parents and kids with a "guarantee" of scholarships. 6A talent, 3A schedule, peewee league coaching. What happened to if you have an athletic record and transfer without a bona fide change of residence, you sit out 1 year? The schools losing players are too gutless to turn them in apparently. Best solution: Pearl-Cohn should be forced to play D-II with the others that recruit. (and take CPA with them)
  10. It was stated during the game that McGavock returns 17 of 22 starters from last year's playoff team. With this experience and obvious talent, how could they appear so disorganized and inconsistent? Could it be that their previous coach, Coach Broome, is sorely missed? There is more to football than x's and o's. In dealing with young men, inspiration is of the utmost. Coach Broome did inspire his teams. For the Raiders sake, let's hope Coach Gore finds a way to reach the heart of this team. And for the returning assistants who were disloyal to Coach Broome, karma is a &%$#&.
  11. OK, time to tell the truth, The Shadow is the winningest coach ever in the NIL/metro. You wannabees make your self look foolish for demeaning him. He exudes what football is all about. He is one of the finest leaders of young men in our nation. As for the current Nashville openings, all 3 jobs have difficulties, just like every other job in metro circa 2010. How about this: Scott Smith to Hillwood Mose Phillips to Whites Creek Mike Tribue to Maplewood
  12. Before we move on past the HL-Maplewood game, I just wanted to let DaCatfish know, that all that Big Ole Coach did, was defend his players after a Maplewood assistant cussed and called out HL team members after the jamboree! Everyone has kissed and made up since then, but I felt like the truth should be told about what really happened.
  13. Hunters Lane has one of the better defenses around. I've seen them play twice. They run to the ball with desire, are well coached, and play with a fire in their belly.
  14. Gallatin fans need to realize that they are lucky to have Coach Lassiter and his staff. They may be struggling right now, but Gallatin has one of the best and hardest working coaching staffs around. Face the truth, Station Camp is what has hurt Gallatin. Same thing that has occurred in other counties when new schools are built and divide the talent, loyalties, and support.
  15. Most of the Nashville schools, in better times, were lead by principals who valued athletics. Most of these were former coaches themselves. Now, there are too many women and wimpy principals who fail to support athletics. I agree that the neighborhood schools being destroyed is the primary reason for the lack of support of athletics; however, a lack of administrative support is also a contributing factor. Athletics can unite schools and communities. I wish somebody with the proper influences would realize that and do something about it. We had a chance recently, but we didn't elect Buck Dozier as mayor. Sadly, private schools will continue to flourish while public schools become more dangerous, inadequate, and unsupported.
  16. The truth is that Hillwood's staff is new and just beginning, while Glencliff's staff is in transition to Cane Ridge and Glencliff is not their priority.
  17. 1 Hunters Lane 2 Gallatin 3 Antioch 4 Overton 5 Hendersonville 6 Hillwood 7 McGavock 8 Glencliff
  18. I am amazed that someone, who probably never played or coached in a football game, says such idiotic things as this statement. You hide behind your CoachT ID and think you can say anything. What a putz! I have known Coach Campbell for years. I know not only is he a great coach but he cares for his kids. There is more parity in Metro Schools now than ever. Plus Hunters Lane does not accept transfers unless they have moved into the area (most if not all other schools do). Have you seen H.Lane play? Coach Campbell deserves better than to have some idiot get on here and bash him. He demands that players be disciplined and if they don't, then they do not play. Maybe a few more coaches need to do this. Many will not because it takes guts and puts you out there for screwballs like you to talk stupid about them. Get real and look in the mirror!
  19. You have got to be an idiot. He took Hillwood to the finals of the 11-AAA Tournament in his first year at Hillwood. That was something that has never been done at Hillwood. Get real - you don't know the issues at Hillwood. For one they did not have a guard, period. You must be a snotty nose kid, cause you sure don't know basketball. You don't deserve to be on here.
  20. This should be a classic game. The answer to the question is in 1999 Hunters Lane and Maplewood played 5 times. Maplewood won the district and Hunters Lane won the Region and both met in the sectional finals at the Municipal Auditorium. Hunters Lane won in double overtime. Both went to the State. Am I correct? I believe Coach Collier and Coach Gamble were the coaches.
  21. Franklin wins this one, I think. Ravenwood is tough though, but athletic teams kill them - say Whites Creek 74-35. Franklin doesn't do well against athletic teams either - lost to Antioch. They better win this week because next week in the Region it is over.
  22. Hillwood boys play Overton Friday night at 7:00 PM at Overton.
  23. In 12AAA, Antioch may be the 4th best team. They are young and appear to have a good coach. Give them a year or two - then make a decision. Give the coach a chance. All I know is that he, at one time this year, was ranked at least as high as 10 in the AP.
  24. I am a parent, but I always thought that the object of the game is to win. It it is not, then I say play all the players and have a good time losing. Get real! The poor coach must try to win or else he may lose his job. Quit griping and support the program. If your son makes a bunch of turnovers, he deserves to be taken out, period! Support the program, not just your baby!
