  1. South Pittsburg has a couple of potential stars in this class. One of them is a TB/DB Arlan Matthews he is like 6-0 175. They say he has got good strength and runs around a 4.6. The other one is a SE/DB Antonio Robinson I think he is around 6-3, but really needs to add 20 pounds or so. He is kind of skinny. They also have several good looking Freshman coming up this year.
  2. I am not impressed with the Tidwell kid from Whitwell. Sure he is a big kid but he isnt that good. I remember him from last year. I rememeber #90 from South Pitt whipping him all night long though.
  3. They will not have any trouble building a team. This past year was their first year playing football. The 8th grade team promptly won the league they played in. Then they had a picture of that junior high team, and their state championship basketball team from last year, posted in the local paper. The article said something like "Tennessee Temple High School" "Where Champions Are Made". For information call ???-????. They will rise to the top just wait and see. Before long So.Pitt L.Valley, and Whitwell will be in a region with all private schools.
  4. They will get a very good test in week 1 when they come to South Pittsburg. South Pitt should be pretty strong this season. Not nearly like they were in 98 or 99 but a pretty good team. If they can play with or beat them then they will definitely be in the 3rd of 4th round. What do others think?
  5. I do not think Whitwell win be as good as their team two years ago. They just do not have a "Bubba" his little brother is ok but not near the player he was. As for Boyd I do not think they will be as good as last year, granted they are still defending region champs. I don't think people realize how much losing a player like Will Healy hurts a single A team. I watched the Blue Cross Bowl on TV and I saw where Whitwell lost Nelson, Miller, Jones, and #2 on defense. Offensively though they started more than 3 seniors. They lose most importantly their QB(Healy), RB(Nelson), WR(Jones), and 2 or 3 lineman. I think it listed starting 6 seniors on the offensive side of the ball. Oh yeah Jacob my name is Jim.
  6. It will definitely come down to South Pittsburg and Boyd Buchanan. I think these two teams will be the two best teams in the east next season. I think they will definitely play twice. Whoever wins the regular season game will not necessarily win the game in the third round. I think both of these teams are shoe in for the third round of the playoffs. The meeting in the regular season will just determine where the rematch will be.
  7. What about the kid that got killed in a car wreck 6 or 7 years ago? Jackie Fletcher, I remember watching him play he was a very good player for you guys.

    Waverly Football

Ok guys I have a great solution to your problem. Let Boldin come back to South Pittsburg. We would love to have him back. He could have really helped our team last season. He is a good athlete and a great kid. We missed not having him on our team last season.
  9. Split back veer consists of the two running backs lined up behind the guards. Georgia Southern's offense is a wing T offense with a quarterback, 1 back, and two wings. Also I would like to add it will be extremely tough for Grundy to go undefeated in the regular season next year. They have a trip to South Pittsburg that might be their toughest game. South Pitt will be very hard to beat for the next 4 or 5 years.
  10. South Pittsburg VS Marion County is as big as it gets in this state. It is the longest consecutive running series. They have played something like 80 or 90 years in a row. There is NO love loss between these two schools seperated by only a few miles.
  11. There is no doubt about it that South Pittsburg has got one of the nicest stadiums in the state. I have been to alot of stadiums and I have never seen a 1 or 2A stadium as nice. What do others think about it? Marion County also has a nice facility. h b
  12. Wasnt there a guy in the running for this job that was from Marion County? What was his name? Did he make the final list?
  13. I was wandering how the Lunsford kid at Cloudland would be elegible next season. When we played Cloudland in 2001 the program listed him as a junior. That means last year he would have been a senior, thus ending his elgibility. Is their some kind of medical hardship the TSSAA grants if an athelete gets hurt before the season? I have never heard of anything like that but just curious how he will be elegible to play next season.
  14. 1. C.P.A 2. U.S.J 3. South Pitt/Boyd Buchanan 4. Boyd Buchanan/South Pitt 5. Greenback South Pitt, Boyd, Greenback, Cloudland (EAST QUARTERFINALS) C.P.A, U.S.J, Bruceton, and ? (WEST QUARTERFINALS)
  15. I don't know if he is "The Best" but he is definitely in the top 5 or 6 LB's in 1A. Ben Blevins from South Pittsburg is not a big kid, but plays with alot of heart, fight, and determination. he is only like 5'9 170 but the boy can play. He was voted the region 3A defensive player of the year last year as a junior. He beat out several good defenders including the Nelson kid from Boyd for this award. To be quiet honest all the starting LB's for South Pitt are really good linebackers. They are a definite strength on defense.
  16. This region will come down to South Pittsburg and Boyd Buchanan. I think Boyd lost 5 starters on defense and 7 on offense. They also lost the best QB the Chattanooga area has seen in the past 10 or 15 years. South Pittsburg lost their starting tailback, one wide receiver, and one lineman. So they have 8 starters returning on offense. Defensively they lost 2 defensive lineman and 2 DB's so they have 7 back on defense. The next 4 to 5 years definitely look bright in South Pittsburg. I think these two teams will be the two best teams in the east. One of these teams should represent the east in Murfreesboro. 2 games between these teams next season is almost a certainity.
  17. You are exactly right their QB was very good. He won't be replaced. The team this year will not be near as decent as the teams they have had the last 2 years. I will say you guys will go about 5-5. I dont think you will ever go 1-10 again as long as your coach is there. He seems to have it turned around.
  18. I am a South Pitt fan and I am trying not to be biased. My picks for best teams would be, in no particular order. Trousdale County in 97 (State Champions) Trousdale County in 98 (State Champions) Trousdale County in 99 (State Semifinalist) Lost to So. Pitt South Pittsburg in 98(Lost in Semi's to Trousdale South Pittsburg in 99 (State Champions) C.P.A. in 2000 (State Champions) Ezell Harding in 2001 (State Champions) U.S.J. and Collinwood in 2001 just happened to have Ezell in same bracket. I think the Trousdale and South Pitt teams from 98 and 99 were the best 1A has ever seen. Those teams had more speed than any teams I can ever remember.
  19. I feel sorry for anybody that goes there. That program has to be one of the worst of all time. Didn't they lose 50 games in a row during the early 90's. That must be a school that simply has no talent at all. I feel bad for any coach that has to go there.
  20. Malcolm Mackey was killed in a car accident several years ago. I think Lightfoot is coaching somewhere.
  21. It should be S.P.'s best team since the 99 team. They will not be near as good as those teams from 98 and 99 but they should be one of the top two teams in the east. Those teams in 98 and 99 were teams that South Pittsburg or Boyd could not compare with. I think we return 8 starters on offense and 7 on defense. We have alot coming back next season, but 2005, 2006, and 2007 could prove to field the best teams since 99. I think the East comes down to So.Pitt and Boyd in 2003. Boyd will still be good, but not quite as good as this season. You don't get a player like Will Healy everyday.
  22. I was just curious as to what teams everyone thought would be a force to be reckoned with next season. In the east I have to say South Pittsburg, Boyd Buchanan, Greenback, and Cloudland will be the four best teams. In the west I think C.P.A, and U.S.J will again be the teams to beat. South Pitt loses like 3 starters on offense(TB, SE, OT) and 4 starters on the defensive side(DB, DB, DE, DT) They will have 18 or more seniors so that will definitely help. They have alot of young talent behind this group of seniors that should get into the mix next season. Boyd has 4 or 5 starters back on offense, and 7 on defense. Boyd didnt lose alot of seniors, but the ones they did lose were very very good players. (Healy, Nelson, Jones, Puryear, Miller, Beckham) are six good players. Cloudland lost quite a few seniors, but considering the people they have to play they will make it to at least the quarterfinals when they should meet Greenback. I think the east will basically come down to South Pittsburg and Boyd Buchanan. I think these will be the best two teams in the east, with Greenback and Cloudland being the 3rd and 4th best teams. What does everyone else think?
  23. South Pittsburg has three kids worthy of consideration. TB A.J. Jones, QB/DB Ron Ridley, FB/LB Ben Blevins (Region 3 1A defensive player of the year)

    Will Healy

Will Healy is truly the best QB our area has seen in the last 20 years. He is by far the best I have seen. He has a cannon and he can run. He made us look bad for the last 3 years so naturally I am glad he is gone. I think Boyd will really, really miss him next year and in the years to come. I compare losing Healy to us losing Eddie Moore his senior season. We had an awesome team in 1998 with Eddie, him and one or two other players were basically all we lost going into the 99 season. We got beat in 98 but won the state in 99 with not quite as good a team as the year before. I think we had like 8 or 9 starters back from the 98 team, but losing a star really affects us 1A programs. I heard a few Boyd people at the game saying you will be better next year. That seems a little much considering what I said earlier about losing a star. I am just glad we don't have to face Healy anymore he is a great QB. Several players Boyd has are not classy at all #1, #31, #6 but Healy is an exception. He seems like an exceptional guy.
  25. The reason they switched from 3 classes to 5 classes in 1993 was because more and more schools were opening and other schools were starting football. I mean in 1-5A there are 60 something teams in each division. Alabama has 6 divisions plus a small christian school division. Georgia has 5 divisions. To put every school in 3 divisions would be 120 or so teams in every division. I would be in favor of dropping division 2 all together and going to a 6 classification format like Alabama has and use the multiplier rule to place private schools in different divisions.
