  1. one thing i think a lot of you guys are missing in all of this: The TSSAA is not part of this investigation. each school declares their own students as eligible or not. The TSSAA only said they received nothing from Trezevant saying that anyone was ineligible. Now, whether or not the grades were changed is a different question. The TSSAA only requires that a certain number of credits are earned each year to be eligible the next year. They are not concerned with actual GPA's of students. The NCAA, on the other hand, is concerned with GPA. So players' transcript grades could have been changed to raise GPA to make a student get through the NCAA clearinghouse. For example, changing a few D's to B's. This action, while unethical, would not make a student ineligible based on TSSAA rules. My guess would be that this is what this whole ordeal is about.

  3. http://www.jacksonsun.com/story/sports/high-school/2016/10/05/tca-teams-staying-tssaa-division/91609808/ looks like TCA is staying in D1
  4. Freedom Prep Academy is a charter school that was approved by for membership by the board of control last summer. The BOC minutes said that football was one of their sports that they intended to compete in. Their school info page on TSSAA directory lists a football coach, but says that they are in a co-op with mitchell. I don't know if they will be fielding a team or not, but they will probably have to be considered for classification purposes and put into a region, since they board approved their membership. Their number is 291 so they would be 1A. So would this addition bump one team out of each class and into the next?
  5. you left KIPP Memphis out of the 1A so that would make 50 in 1A and 48 in 2A, I don't know if the TSSAA would bump Cosby up to 2A to keep 49 in each class or if they would just keep the cutoff at 400.
  6. Middleton does have more kids out this year, which is a good thing for the future. But the majority of those kids are freshmen or kids who are playing football for the first time. Before the season started Middleton had 1 kid on the roster who had ever scored a td in a varsity game. They are very, very young. Also, this year there are 5 guys on the roster who also play basketball, 1 is a freshman, 3 are sophmores who have never played football before, and 1 is a senior.
  7. Manassas fired a coach who had been to the playoffs 7 straight years with the explanation of "wanting to go in a different direction" and the next day announce wilson as the new hire. Sounds like this deal was done before they fired the other guy.
  8. I don't have a dog in this fight, but just as a point of clarification: According to mxpreps, goldsmith has 272 carries for 3023 yards and 31 td through 12 games. he is currently 5th in the nation in rushing yards among teams who have entered stats in mxprps jackson sun publishes updated stats on fridays
  9. BTW is a few blocks away from downtown. just off of Danny Thomas blvd. It is in a really bad neighborhood. we had kids throwing rocks at our buses after the game.
  10. two things you can count on in this game.... #1 Northside will commit about 50 penalties #2 UC will score as many points as they want to score.
  11. I can tell you this about carver, they were head and shoulders above every other team in Region 8. That may not be saying much, as the other teams were pretty bad, but Carver is a good team. Their QB is a great player. Has a good arm and is FAST. They also have a big receiver that is pretty good, and a big running back. Their Offensive Coordinator is former NFL receiver Cedric Wilson. I am not sure where you guys are playing this game at, but when we went and played Carver the game was at Crump Stadium. It is a fairly nice facility. Easy to get to as it is only a couple of blocks from the interstate.
  12. i don't really have a dog in this fight, but i will throw this in there. If the kid had an athletic record at AE, then in order to be eligible at Alcoa his parents will have to have a bonafide change of address that puts them outside the zone of his old school. Otherwise he would be ineligible for 12 months from his last date of participation. sorry to interrupt, you can can now continue with your recruiting discussion.
  13. because as you get deeper in the playoffs there are less games each friday, so only the better officiating crews are working.
  14. mississippi plays an 11th week in the regular season for classes 1A and 6A and then starts their playoffs a week later so that the state championship games in all classes are on the same weekend.
  15. once a player has an athletic record at a school then he can't participate at another school for 12 months from his last participation date, unless he has a bonafide change of address. In open zoned schools, the kids can go wherever they want as long as they do it in 9th grade. Once they have participated at a school, then they must either move or sit a year to transfer and play at another school.
  16. I have to say that I was shocked when I saw the bolivar score from last night. I knew they were young and lost a ton from last year, but wow Adamsville seems to be in about the same place they were at this time last year. 0-1 record. Just made too many mistakes to beat a solid cc team. Bolivar will need to regroup quickly or it could be a long night.
  17. This game last year should have left a bad taste in the cards mouth. They literally handed the game to cc on late turnovers. The eagles lost a TON to graduation from last years quarter final team. I think the cards get their revenge next Friday.
  18. so only 3 days of practice before the westview scrimmage. should see a lot of improvement tomorrow.
  19. so how long has liberty's spring practice lasted? you are only allowed 10 days of practice and 2 scrimmages over a 15 day period. They must not have practiced much before the westview scrimmage on the 5th.
  20. Was leaving bolivar off this list an oversight, or are you saying you think they will finish dead last in this district. i know they lost a lot to graduation, but i don't think they have fallen that low.
  21. Jcm was young and talented last year. With that year of experience they may surprise some people in this district this year. Coach Edwards certainly does a good job of promoting his players and generating hype for his team. This fall we wil all see if it is all hype or the real deal. On a side note, if Clark is a legit 4.4 then he is much faster than he was last year. But then again you rarely get "legit" 40 times from high school coaches.
  22. What 4A schools in west tennessee have head coaching vacancies? McNairy is the only one I can think of. Surely you aren't suggesting he is headed there? Or are there other jobs coming open?
  23. despite what the score looked like between bolivar and mitchell, it was a defensive struggle. 2 of mitchell's scores came off of fumble returns. one of bolivar's came from a blocked punt and another on a muffed punt by mitchell on the 16 yard line. mitchell only had one sustained drive against bolivar. Their quarterback, #17 has a great arm and loves to throw the longball. #1 is a really good receiver. he made some big time plays during the game. mitchell is pretty good on defense. they really fly around. cross for bolivar got loose once for a 50+ yd td. other than that bolivar didnt have much going on offense. with that being said, i think chester is a better team and should pull out a win. on another note, i was really impressed by the behavior of the mitchell players. they showed class and good sportsmanship.
  24. Getting an assistant who worked under a great coach doesn't always work out. Just look at the college level. Derek Dooley and will muschamp may have worked for Nick Saban, but they are NOT Nick Saban.
  25. So were you just blowing smoke, or is there really a chance that Kerry sellers doesn't play in this one? If he doesn't play then Lexington better play lights out on defense because he is what makes that offense go.
