  1. The only indication of how good they are, even looking at their schedule is a four point loss to Covington. I'm sure that Frost will have some video, and that no matter what Fairley looks like, Riverside will play their basic game according to what they do best. It would be nice to have some talking points though... maybe one of the Charger fans could fill in some blanks? @CHARGERFAN
  2. Haywood is a solid team with a very good running game, but not as good overall as last year. PC was a very good team last year, but look to be on another level this season...PC went to Haywood last year and knocked them out of the playoffs. Sometimes strange things happen, but sometimes it's just a forgone conclusion who the overwhelming favorite is.
  3. Going to have to roll the dice with an unknown, or get their act together, decide how much the program matters, and make some calls to some targets. If they sit back and just choose from what's available, It will just be more of the same. Contacting solid coaches with an offer won't matter either without compensation and a plan to put the coach in a position to succeed. Nobody's going to volunteer to captain a sinking ship.
  4. Warranted or not, all teams have their critic's. You can hear it at the grocery, gas station, barber shop, ect... and most small towns have their own version of "the liar's table" at the country store or cafe'. Like I said, no matter how competent (or not) the coach is, there'll be naysayers and fans who think coach is top notch arguing about what kid would be better or what play should have been called. Truth is that coachT is just a sample of real life, and if a coach makes life decisions based on rumor and grumbling, he was not confident in his ability to be successful to begin with. It may look like General and Salem are incorrigible critics who thrive on being negative, but I've seen them time after time compliment the players (win or lose) for their effort and accomplishments... and on occasion even the coaching staff for good decisions, even small ones. The truth (IMO) is that they're just Forrest fans who only want the best for their program, and have become more agitated and vocal because the changes were long overdue.
  5. I hate to be Captain Obvious, but using that logic only three starters on either side of the ball are not seniors... so the "math" may be skewed as you say, but his point is still valid.
  6. Look what you did!!! Took everything I had not to post the same thing, and here you have gone and done it anyway. I did get a good belly-laugh out of it though!
  7. You do remember that your cover has been blown...right? Might want to write Santa and see about getting on the list for a new helmet if some of them Forrest folks don't get a suitable coach. Tip... I'd ask for one of them motocross helmets with that little DOT sticker on it. A mouthguard could save on some dental work, and that little sticker is a guarantee from our government that it meets high impact safety standards...prolly stand up to a couple of licks from a four pounder with full extension on the swing.
  8. Not really. Each member school pays a fee to "join" the TSSAA...along with that comes the small print portion of the "agreement", that contains the abide by the rules, bylaws, blah, blah, blah...you get the point. EDIT I was simply catching up and posted...didn't see this last page until I hit submit. Exactly right though about choosing to be a member.
  9. He's sneaky, but he's usually pretty accurate. Definitely bears watching!
  10. I think it looks better because of the balance between the grand divisions... if more of the top teams were relatively close to each other geographically, the quarters would look more different than the rankings.
  11. HC is no slouch, but PC is on another level. Not saying they can't lose... just sayin' that if they play well there's not much Marshall Co. can do about it.
  12. He may just be trying to double or nothing on the Dr. Pepper & burger...better watch him.
  13. innurestin......eye reckkon eye ant haid nary inny trubble reedin tha stuff starz rites.
  14. It's not about the current culture @ Humboldt, it's about the commitment from those hiring the next HC. Form a search committee and let them negotiate a level of compensation ($$$) that would match what you want to accomplish, then accept resume's from applicants while contacting established coaches and "pitching" the job. If the job is posted/app's taken/hire made without any extra effort, my granddad used to have a sayin'..."do what you've been a' doing-get what you've been a' gitten'".
  15. JMO, but I think that TP's staff is too good to radically revamp their offense just to "surprise" Frost. I look for them to run what they feel that they do best with the personnel available...too many times underdog teams outsmart themselves by thinking that's their only chance to win, and I'd bet that Jacobs thinks that he can win this game doing what Peabody does best. Always been rivals, but SH is pulling for our old foes to put one in the cupboard this year!
  16. That's sort of what I'm thinking, but if you play your best there's a good shot at gettin 'em... big advantage at home, I love the atmosphere there.
  17. Our teams have gone separate ways since the old 15A "usually meet twice a season" days Reitz, but I'm still a distant fan...best of luck to you and your Lions!
  18. Been planning on coming all week, but it looks like a family B'day dinner will occupy my time tonight...if that runs it's course early, I'll probably make a dash to Riverside and try to catch the second half there (favorite cousin's grandson playing). I think HC has a puncher's chance IF something goes your way early and y'all can carry the lead into the second quarter or beyond, but it'll take a complete and solid game in all phases...Marshall Co. has some playmakers and no glaring weaknesses. Best of luck to you & your Tigers!
  19. Patience grasshopper... this season isn't over yet.
  20. I really hate (for the kids) that football in Humboldt resembles Thelma & Louise driving the T'bird off the cliff... but the people responsible got exactly what they deserved. Had a great coach and betrayed him to promote their "golden child", thinking he could do just as well. Classic case of "be careful what you wish for".
  21. Had me scratching my head on that one as well.
  22. You're exactly right Tyrone... SC may come out and grind FC into the ground just like they expect, or FC could hit a couple of big plays and change the game early. The only sure thing in high school sports is that the unexpected will happen someplace every year in the playoffs. Could it be this game?
  23. Good points all General (that do apply), but I was mostly wondering if the domino effect would begin... Forrest hires from someone, then they have the position open ect... Most of the time in 1A/2A, the best you can do is allow your target coach to bring one assistant, and utilize the current staff to his liking. It's at least a decent bet that a good hire creates another opening someplace not too far away. Good luck in getting someone to reenergize the program.
  24. First domino down... many to follow?
