It is time to make the split. The numbers speak for themselves....no publics have won a semifinal or final in how many years??? There is a clear advantage to the privates being they can pick and choose....the publics, especially in soccer, they get who they have. How many privates are located in rural TN? Most are in larger cities with population density which yields better facilities, coaches and training opportunities. I forgot, the other key...the student athlete, that number is significantly higher in which to build a student body as well. I applaud the Baylor's, GPS's etc..of the world that own the situation and compete on a level playing field. It is interesting in girl's soccer that there may be 1-2 publics in the tournament, and in the boys, there are more. However, when was the last time a public has won the boys championship?

VIKINGS! Still hard to believe that the MIGHTY VIKINGS are playing in Greenfield, Dresden, McKenzie etc... been a long time but we did beat Mighty MARYVILLE for a GOLD BALL! Go VIKINGS!

I really hope that SG gets to play in a lower classification....yes they will win a few more games. What I thought was intertesting was that neither team wanted to be there...can't blame them, the parents were dreading it...can't blame them and yet people are still mad that GHS JV players scored. I do give props to the SGHS BAND and Cheeleaders...they played and cheered regardless. NICE JOB! The funny thing is....SGHS is still competitive in all other sports....just not football.

Alright folks...great game and a good rivalry is good for your program. A new school beats a traditional "power" like Milan...it is good for the players and the communities. Especially since the schools are so close and a lot of the player's parents are from old rivals Humboldt and Trenton. No one likes to lose....but, a good gate helps support the other sports and creates a lot of interest. Wish we had more of these in E. TN! good Luck to BOTH teams and wish I could be there for game #2...rematch...play-offs! That is what HS football and small town football is about!

I am so appalled that ND called LV to play. I am surprised that ND knew where Tiftonia was. The last good team ND had was in 1976...I think....Does ND play the Jackets in Baseball...Basketball...LV does not play soccer.... Go Jackets....

Really...ND vs. Tiftonia High....Really, ND acts like it does not ask players to come play...it does...Football, Soccer granted basketball is not an issue...Little ol' LV, gets what it gets because everyone thinks it should be one county over and not in Hamilton Co. So please, BB and ND man up and play D II where you belong. I am stunned you would even consider this game...that would require you to travel to ...gasp....TIFTONIA...No! Don't act like you are not scouting middle school football and walking the soccer fields to ask parents..."have you made your decision yet?" If you are going to "solicite" and "suggest" a school, play or compete where it is fair, there are PLENTY of private schools to compete with before you build your ego on LV. Those are great people in that VALLEY and you might learn a lesson or two from them. GO JACKETS!

Alright....I could not stand it....Alcoa great program, great tradition and maintains their position in the same classification for years. Greeneville...played in the wrong classification for years to avoid basically the BRAC and when they finally play in the correct division, everyone is raising (**& for beating really bad teams in north east TN. Then there is the whole, gee...South, Betsy and Jeff Co. dropped Greeneville because of the TSSAA and their bizarre thought process for seeding but not considering strength of schedule. At the end of the day, we have a talented Alcoa team vs. a talented and in many ways young Greeneville team. Could be a great game and I hope for all fans that it is. With a program like Alcoa and a program like Greeneville, classification is not the issue. It is great for high school football in a state where there are way too many panzies vs. teams willing to step up and test themselves. Regardless of the score, it was a great atmosphere at Greeneville last year and I expect there will be one Friday night in Alcoa. This is great football. Signal Mtn....stop jumping in when you are "neavou" football just like your social standing in Chattanooga. High School Football comes and goes in communities...granted Maryville, Alcoa, Milan seem to have sustained longer than anyone....but at the end of the day, these are HIGH SCHOOL players, representing their COMMUNITIES and it is a great sport. Enjoy the moment before it is tainted by illegal recruiting...i.e. Signal Mtn, and Private Schools trying to act like they are innocent in the rules of recruiting...Did you guys know that Greeneville won the only state championship in 4a Football and ALL, repeat ALL other championships were won by private schools...ALCOA...CAK is there and primed to block your run to the gold ball..Friday should be a fun and exciting night for both communities...If Alcoa wins...it is 1-1...if GHS wins it is 2-0...either way, 2 programs that work hard and make high school football the greatest game! Enjoy it and be proud of the young men in these programs that have committed to working hard and giving it their all!

Science Hill is he real deal....ask Mt. Juliet, who they just beat tonight. To be so young, they do not play like it. There is no one in the east that can play with them....Should be some great basketball in Murphy Center in March!

Your understanding is correct that Phase II is to have a similar design as TC. Unfortunately, we all had to slow down due to the recession. However, this community digs deep to raise funds to support its programs. All In! I know that this is a sports website...but the Principal and Staff at GHS are top notch. It is a great place to have a child go to school...not only get a good education, but also be coached by great people!

Due the actions of a few....many will be punished. TSSAA will jump in and will change the rules for 7v7 and not adress the real issue..another out of control program

Greene Devils still have an open date. With the TSSAA still thinking that record is more important than strength of schedule, scheduling has become a bigger problem. Real shame that Jeff Co., South, TN High and Betsy allcancelled.

Yes you are public, that was sarcasm. Trousdale and S. Pitt are good programs. And being athletes tend to produce athelets...I agree, they probably could compete at the next division. Overall, the football in Chattanooga has been week. The last PUBLIC school to win a State Championship was....Red Bank. And they have historically been good. Now that Signal built a school and pulled close to 300 students out of Red Bank and caused a re-zoning, and you can zone skip and the economy tanked and a lot of folks pulled their kids out of private...perfect storm and you are the recipiant...got the kiss. Not your fault...Signal benefitted. If I had a to put a child in a public school in Chattanooga, without a doubt Signal. Newest facility and all the money and they were able to hire great teachers from the lower paying private schools plus get the cream of the crop out of the public. You have to admit...signal is like a private school....just not the tuition. Do you not remember when it was suggested you were to be called the "Thoroughbreds"! I am a support of all teams. High School sports are the best!

You do not win many games getting behind 19 - 2. Lady Devils are woefully thin! Plus, they are playing tense! They are just so inconsistent. They put it on South Greene. Granted, SG just is not playing with the fire and intensity like we all know they use to play. But, tney played good D and pulled away. We do need a win Fri and Sat.! Boys are playing well. "Fear the Beard" has brought some fun back into the game...vs. Fear the Coach!

While it is great to see that kind of competition...who pays for that kind of travel and expense?

Unfortunately, the 'Boro has it again. The TSSAA recognizes it has a problem, but yet, no real solutions. The venue is too big...it needs to go to TTU. Great job with the Football Championships. The tourney has gotten too expensive for most families and it is hard to get schools to let you out, much less your employer 3 days in a row or 2 week days, depending on the schedule you have. The big city schools have no fan base and thus, that has also killed it. With the zoning issues, we are going to see more and more Big City schools and there goes your interest and support. The TSSAA has some real issues...recruiting by the privates that play public, the zone skipping and the list goes on and on.

Lady Huskies of Northe Greene are good. They have the best kept secret in the state...Miss Britton. She can play. She is tough, quick and will light it up! Very good Freshmen that is really come into her own as well..Sometimes the Lady Huskies are a little short of strategy....You should see them in the 'Boro. Real shame, most likely will be against one of the W. TN teams...which I think this is too good a match up for round one.

Great Defense...good offense...and a great kicker. It will take a little luck to go back to back. But it is possible. The question will be who the go to back is for 5 yards...Hall? Perkins? Losing #3 definitely hurts...he scores on one play....next year it will be 3-4 plays. Go Devils!
