  1. Hopefully that doesn't mean Cane Ridge is getting more players...
  2. Metro is supposed to go full "open enrollment" either next year or the year after. Students can choose a school based on the career academies they have.
  3. This late in the game in house would seem to be the easiest choice, they were rolling pretty well for awhile last year. So let's start there: Gregory if he wants it would be the "safest" choice as he has HC experienc. Peden would seem to be the easiest and probably most logically choice. Lowe doesn't have much experience but the kids definitely like him, maybe if the staff agrees to stay on and help out. Arnold would be a good hire as he does well with the kids, went there, and did a good job at Cane Ridge last year. WC hired a non-certified coach so does that matter? McPhail wouldn't be my first choice but I'm also not a big fan of retreads especially at the school they left. White, zero clue who he is so I have nothing. Thompson is someone who has the resume and succeeded at a tougher school than Antioch albeit with better athletes. Antioch is losing athletes to Cane Ridge but maybe a proven winner can bring them back.
  4. Should do very well there, he did some very good things at Antioch and I would only expect those to magnify at Brentwood. Congrats.
  5. It's just a tough time of year to get a current HC that will be dedicated to you...most coaches see spring ball as the start of their season and if they leave their current one for yours whose to say they won't turn around and do it again.
  6. It's a tough district but I have always though East had the athletes to do very well, not sure about lineman types but I know they have the skills. Realize it is a younger program but this very well may be the year they turn the corner and I hope they do. Sucks that they don't have a home stadium and in a conversation I had with some administration that seems to be the last thing on their to do list. Would be great for their kids if they could ever swing that.
  7. I keep thinking one day districts are going to have to realize how important a positive athletic program is to a school but then I see who gets moved in to powers of position and realize that may be a pipe dream. Unfortunately it seems to be a trend that athletics keep getting tossed to the side. Is the OC at CC interested in the HC job or is he going with Finley?
  8. Congrats to your coach for getting the opportunity, I'm sure with his track record and given a littl bit of time they will be winning ball games in Dover. Any idea if his OC is coming with him or is he shooting for the CC job?
  9. Your opinions are your opinions and some have merit however this one is something nearly ALL coaches around the country are struggling with. Talk to any coach and they will flat out tell you that kids have so many more options than they ever had and the idea of busting it and waiting for your senior year to play isn't as attractive as it once was. You are competing with a lot more influences/opportunities than ever before. Can an HC affect numbers? Yes, but only so much. I realize your opinion on what you think what Riverdale should be and that they are immune to what everyone else faces but the numbers game is truly a national issue. I spoke with a coach a while ago at a nationally ranked program year in and year out and he said the same thing, kids have so many options so you have to try your best to keep them all involved. His numbers have dipped from the 100s to the 80s in the past 5-10 years...I don't think you can pin that trend on one coach.
  10. Once again, where did I say Finley is a bad coach? Clearly he is a good coach. My issue has nothing to do with the coach, it is the annoyance I have with people throwing the same people out for every job. Where did I say HL's new coach was a good hire? I don't understand that line of thinking what so ever and firmly believe HL will continue to struggle in part because of that hire. I never thought it was a good job for someone who wasn't used to that setting and definitely don't think it is a good job because of the principal there. If Finley goes to SC good for him, once again, had more to do with the spamming of the same names. Same issue I have with geniuses who think Rankin is taking every job in the state or a specific metro coach that got on here last year and kept pining for jobs until he landed his. Is it the guys prerogative to look for other opportunities, absolutely, I would just have a hard time justifying why I am a good fit for a specific job if it is common knowledge that I have applied for every opening. Unless things are that bad at Cheatem than that's a question he will have to answer. Once again, to clear it up for you since you are taking so many leaps...Finley's record speaks for itself, I thought he was above the HL job and was fortunate to not get a "sniff" at it, due to the principal it is a terrible job and NO ONE will rise above her ineptitude and attitude, as far as WC it's tough to tell, I don't know anything about the principal but also know they have had success in the past. SC may be a great fit for Finley or his OC or a coach not mentioned on this thread. What I am opposed to hearing are the same names time and time again, if you are that unhappy where you are, move on, don't stay somewhere where you think everywhere is a step up. Going to be hard explaining to the kids why you put in for every job if you wind up back...should be selective about these things.
  11. A little sensitive there big guy? My comment has more to do with dropping the name for every job, it becomes redundant. I hope the guy gets the gig he's searching for and said in a previous thread that the OC seems like a guy that should get a shot somewhere as an HC. I am however weary of HC's that put their name in the hat for every single job that comes open (if that's what he is doing). If something like that gets out to the kids it can be rough sledding. Sorry for hurting your feelings sport.
  12. Of course he would, according to you every job under the sun is a better one than he has. This has nothing to do with the Stewart County job, just an observation since you throw his name out there for any and every job. Historically speaking, how competitive has SC been?
  13. Thanks, knew he was at a middle school, don't know why I got the idea it was out of county.
  14. Off that list Law would be the best choice based off of history, not sure what he is doing now or if he still has a bad taste from the way he was treated last time. I can't see any administrator hiring Baskin, no real success as an HC or AC and burns nearly every bridge he crosses, PR nightmare even at a metro school. No clue if Campbell has any interest in HCing again, think he's at Overton which isn't a bad metro place to be but was successful at Hunters Lane. Moreno is a good coach thought Hunters Lane was his gig to turn down, still somewhat shocked on that one. Don't see Thompson getting the shot, thought he was out of county, maybe there is a reason for that. The OC from Cheatem, don't know him but on paper looks good. I'd honestly go for him over the HC from Cheatem because I think he would have more to prove and may have more patience for the metro way, once again off of paper... WC should be a decent job and has had some recent past experience but it is a tough district. Also, don't fall in to the "hallway" trap, one of the biggest false reasonings not only in metro but schools in general. There is a reason all of their sports are struggling, what it is I'm not sure but with all going open zone next year they better get it together.
  15. If you are currently going to school, you may want to see if you can get on as a Student Assistant especially if college coaching is your end goal. Just know that SA is laundry and cones, dirty work to hopefully get your foot in the door.
  16. Hiring coaches is more involved than one would think, obviously there are district and state rules to abide by. Then coaches go to those that they know to see if they are interested or if they know anyone. Also, put yourself in a head coaches shoes. Are you going to hire someone with high school experience or no high school experience? It's like a college, they very rarely hire high school coaches. Unfortunately your semi-pro experience carries no weight, it isn't looked at as serious football. I understand your frustration but you have to just keep trying and keep putting it out there that you are interested. And I'm not saying you do this, but when you approach the schools, obviously have a resume but also lay it out there that you just want to get in to coaching at the high school level, freshman volunteer, whatever. I would not go in talking about all of the championships you have won at the jr. pro level or in semi-pro leagues, or how much you know, just lay it out that you want to be involved in high school and you want to learn in their system. A little ego stroking doesn't hurt anyone and whether it is deserved or not, there is a stigma with some youth coaches that constantly talk about their teams accomplishments that they are saturday morning lombardi's who are know it alls (once again, not saying that is you). Just keep putting it out there coach, it seems you are trying the right stuff, someone will bite.
  17. Curious as to why they went with someone who has shown such little longevity.
  18. The new traveling man which leaves the nest empty?
  19. Usually decent at this game, need to run a copy of your decoder ring HighLife!
  20. Snake? Lost me there...another former HC but not in metro, only an assistant in metro?
  21. Gave you an answer champ, sorry it didn't work for you but experience in certain environments may count. As I also said, the relationship with a very difficult to get along with administrator is big. However it is clear that you are going to be sore no matter who a school picks unless it is your boy, sorry the world doesn't work that way, sometimes it just doesn't shake out and you move on big guy.
  22. Because he was there before during their success and has recent experience with the school day...if it was just coaching there would be a lot of good candidates but it's not just coaching, it is easier to assume someone from an urban education environment will handle it better than someone from a rural environment. And according to some on here, he gets along with the principal which is a trait few and far between according to those that have crossed paths with her.
  23. 1) They've had a pretty good run 2) They are in 2a with a wide geographic area to pull from 3) They don't have to compete with Ensworth 4) Work study is a nice loophole
  24. Names or hints as to front runners.
