Wrong, my assertion was based on not pulling them for grades just as LOD pointed out before. If it came across any other way, that wasn't my intent.

He let him go for something more serious than grades and I'm not getting into the specifics of that, doesn't contradict anything I just said.

Rankin wasn't going to pull his Mr. Football winner out in the middle of his season. He sure let him go after the fact, made sure he wasn't going anywhere else though.

We at least beat Oakland last year and multiple times before that. A previous poster is correct in that we had a injury riddled team and the only team (including Oakland) that beat us at full strength last season was Alcoa. What's embarrassing though is your little chicken hawk tail beating your chest over an appearance in the quarterfinals. Seriously, the quarterfinals....

You're not the only parent I've heard say this. One parent I've been friends with for years told me something similar, she knew her son wasn't going to be eligible based on his grade situation and threatened to pull him out of football. Mysteriously weeks later his grades made a big jump and it wasn't from better study habits.

Then they should look inward. This story says it was the school board members bringing up the issue. LOD has been telling everyone that's willing to listen that the past predicts the future. Too bad Nissan isn't in Blount County, right LOD?? Might have some kids from Cookeville locked in to coming if that was the case...

There's a story in the Daily Times about Alcoa's recent student addition(s). Seems some school board folks aren't too happy with Rankin's 'Rithmetic always getting a pass.

I agree, I've got family who graduated from MJ who originally grew up here in Maryville. They know the real deal, but I'll give this guy some credit for being loyal. When you haven't won anything I guess you can hang your hat on a 14-0 Quarterfinals exit, but for us it's gold ball or bust. As far as strength coaches go, you'd be hard pressed to find one in high school with a MS degree in the subject that also worked at UT under Fulmer. Fortunately we have one that fits that description and no amount of lift a thons will get Mount Juliet even close to what we've established as a program.

A Quarterfinals exit doesn't mean everyone knew MJ was #2, not to mention I'd pit our strength coach against MJ's every day and twice on Sunday.

Yes, but he was with me at Maryville for 2 years and may be back in TN in HS. He's just a 7th grader though. Thomas Stadel is also a name folks will see more of in HS for the next 4 years as well.

Our MS kids did very well, but there's some truth to your statement. I'm not speaking for all the coaches that went with our team to Iowa because there are some I respect a lot, but a few of the Memphis coaches like hanging out in the shade from time to time.
