  1. Anybody else heard this one? Caught a thread on GoVols247 where more than one poster mentions Middleton might be transferring to Maryville. For any of the Powell folks, what was the reason behind him missing the last part of the season for you guy? Everything I heard about the kid suggests he might be the most gifted athlete to come out of Powell since Rudy Stinson, but who's to say really...
  2. Chad Solomon will be a 3 time champion before he's done. Would like to see his practice partner (Nathan Wilson) take 1st this year as well, but you can Sharpie Solomon's name as 2x champ this year.
  3. An old teammate of mine at UTC (Henry Jones) had his twins boys take 1st place in their weight classes I heard. Hope those 2 become Mocs like their daddy!
  4. I know a lot of you guys on here like to project how the IFL (Imaginary Football League) would turn out in regards to the best teams in the state regardless of classification. I compiled a poll of my own only using the teams who made it to their respective classification's championship games. It was actually quite interesting to see how much some of the teams actually crossed paths during the season, but in this poll I factored in overall record, results of games played against other teams in the sample, & if it came down to any tie breakers I inevitably had to use teams outside the sample to judge who would get the nod. Feel free to blow as many holes in it as possible, but here it is complete with class, record, notable W's & L's within the sample group... 1. Maryville (6A/15-0) - (W) Knox Webb (35-15), (W) Alcoa (31-2), (W) Knox West (42-20), (W) Hendersonville (44-7) 2. Knox Fulton (4A/15-0) - (W) Giles County (54-14) 3. Ensworth (DII Large/11-1) - (W) Giles County (48-7), (W) MUS (27-10) 4. Henry County (5A/15-0) - (W) Knox West (28-27) 5. Alcoa (3A/14-1) - (L) Maryville (2-31), (W) CPA (25-7) 6. Knox West (5A/13-2) - (L) Maryville (20-42), (L) Henry County (27-28) 7. MUS (DII Large/10-3) - (L) Ensworth (10-27) 8. CPA (3A/14-1) - (W) Giles County (38-10), (L) Alcoa (7-25) 9. Knox Webb (DII Small/10-3) - (L) Maryville (15-35), (W) St. Georges (28-14) 10. Giles County (4A/12-3) - (L) CPA (10-38), (L) Ensworth (7-48), (L) Fulton (14-54) 11. Hendersonville (6A/11-4) - (L) Maryville (7-44) 12. Trousdale County (2A/14-0) - (W) Adamsville (21-12) 13. Union City (1A/13-1) - (W) South Pittsburgh (23-14) 14. South Pittsburgh (1A/12-2) - (L) Union City (14-23) 15. Adamsville (2A/11-3) - (L) Trousdale County (12-21) 16. St. Georges (DII Small/9-4) - (L) Knox Webb (14-28) It would be fair to say that numbers 5 though 10 could vary greatly, but one team that helped out a lot in terms of comparisons was Giles County. I kind of feel sorry for them in a way, but (outside of Maryville) they can honestly they played the best competition in the state.
  5. Lee, Knoxville football has passed everybody up in the last few years. Only Murfreesboro or Memphis has the type of teams that can compete these days & even then they're not as deep across all the classifications.
  6. If I'm not mistaken, I thought the Maryville game was on WVLT & now I see they're showing Grace & Trousdale County. Why the switch?
  7. Agreed, wonder how they might do against Ensworth now if they were to play again.
  8. The 1st cut needs to be Ridge himself. A good dude, but doesn't have what it takes to be a good coach on this level.
  9. So using that logic, the same argument could be made that Barry Switzer was a good NFL coach because he won a Super Bowl by surrounding himself with an already stocked roster & coaching staff. In reality, Switzer was nothing more than a decent manager & that's about what I would say Ridge did at Greenback. As long as he showed up for work & didn't do anything to screw it up, he was going to have good wrestling teams during his time at Greenback. As far as his football teams, it's pretty hard not to succeed when you have the Seymour boys & the future head coach of your program calling plays.
  10. Yes, he did coach a state champion & had some good teams. I will give the credit though to Jeremy on his title & his dad for helping get those kids to the level they needed to be to beat those teams. Personally, if Blackmon was still there nobody would be talking about anyone else as the reason Greenback had their run.
  11. Hey, the original poster has a point. Ridge is a good person, but I haven't seen anything over his career at Greenback (football or wrestling) that leads me to believe he's a good coach.
  12. That's probably why KNS has paid subscriptions now. Not as many people can see how much they get wrong on a daily basis.
  13. Rankin has never tried to get this game off the schedule. Talk about something you know more about troll.
  14. I seen that, even more prof that Fulton wouldn't beat Ensworththis year. I have serious doubts they would beat Alcoa this year, didn't Alcoa beat them pretty bad last year?
  15. No you wouldn't... They have better athletes & better coaches.
  16. There's only one starter at QB that I can think of that played defense too at Maryville in the last 20 years & that would be Will Curtis. Curtis playing defense was really out of a need at Safety when the regular starter went for the year, but he was a good overall athlete who eventually moved to WR the next year. I can't think of anyone else that played QB at Maryville who went both ways since then though, however I could be wrong...
  17. Solomon will be a 3 time champ before it's over
  18. Saw is brother yesterday, hope he can bring home two titles to Maryville with Solomon's title at 170 last weekend.
  19. Who are you? I guarantee Hatcher knows Lee, so does Coach Eslinger, Quantel Langford, Eric Phillips, & just about anybody else that matters in the Cleveland program. heck, anyone who wrestled with us or was involved at UTC from 1995-2000 knows who Lee is too. I could name about 30 more of our teammates who will gladly vouch for Lee, but the real question should be who the crap are you two rudy poos? All I know is this, we were part of a great bunch of guys at UTC in the mid 90's who won 2 SoCon titles under Coach Leen & helped put UTC back on the map for Division I wrestling. A ton of us are coaching all over the country helping programs any way we can. Just because we're not the face of a program doesn't mean we don't contribute. As far as myself, I'm a booster for 2 East TN high school programs as well as UTC. I'd say if you want any more proof, come on down to a UTC Old Timers function & I will gladly introduce you to folks who will vouch for Lee.
  20. Trust me... Xander has been active in the Cleveland program for close to 20 years, was a state medalist from there, & continues to work with the kids in the area. I guarantee more people around the state know him than they do you, so here's your f'n dumb #### sign...
  21. Yeah, he's a cheap "ematayshun" of a Maryville Rebel football fan & renowned Coach T poster, Stars & Bars...
  22. Not to mention my Maryville Rebels finishing in the overall top 20. We don't win a lot of individual titles, but Maryville has made multiple trips to the State Duals tournament & gave the Region of 3 teams in this year's AAA tournament (Cleveland, Heritage, & Maryville).
  23. Satterfield is from Maryville, always has been except for a short time WB let Chattanooga "borrow" him... His dad is also from Maryville, so that would make him a Blount County fixture...
