  1. For decades Dobyns Bennett in Kingsport has been accused of recruiting. It usually takes the flavor of something like "Well, lookee there, a job @ Eastman just happens to open up to the parent(s) of a new football player...." There is really an easy way to debunk this myth but a few locals still seem to cling to it.
  2. Good observation, in general the DNA in NET 5A/6A just does not compare to DNA in Knox County & beyond. One possible exception is Science Hill, there are years they have athletes all over the field but for whatever reason can't get it together as a team. I believe that in a lot of cases the NET 5A/6A guys play as hard as they can but they are outmanned from the start.
  3. When TH beat Boone last week I never could figure out why our linebackers played so far back off the LOS. We would still have lost because they are a better team but we should have sold out to stop the run and made them beat us through the air. I sincerely doubt that Powell will make the same mistake because if they do then TH will keep hanging around. Their O-Line makes decent blocks and they have several in the backfield who are not great but they are hard runners and don't quit until the whistle blows. I look for Powell to score early and often and then TH will end up playing catch-up which does not suit their style of offense at all.
  4. Sevier County has a good team but they will lose to Powell next week. Sevier Co 28 Central 14
  5. Mo West would have to put together a complete game for 4 Q's with no stupid mistakes & penalties, I'm going Halls something like 28-20
  6. I think that Sevier County (region 1) wins, but otherwise a clean sweep, yes
  7. Yes. It's no secret that the way to defeat TH is to load the box and stop the run, they are not equipped to beat you via the air. But if Powell Mickey-Mouse's around with too much receiver coverage then TH will grind it out on the ground.... grind & ground, ground & grind. Powell 38 Tennessee High 7
  8. Hey Jefferson County fans, I am pulling for you guys in this one. You will have to play your best game though, no stupid penalties & mistakes. Nothing fancy either, just play sound fundamental football for 4 Q's
  9. NET 5A & 6A does not have what it takes to consistently get past the Knox County line and I do not see anything changing that in the foreseeable future. All of us NET fans have to deal with it in our own way, for the last few years I've been pretty much forgetting that the playoffs exist and concentrated on trying to win the region and counting that as a successful season. So don't be too down on WR, it's just part of the NET curse. Pulling for you guys this Friday but I can't see you winning unless a widespread case of trypanosomiasis descends on Cleveland TN
  10. Maryville fans - you probably already know this, but just in case...... Science Hill has enough raw talent on the field to keep it respectable, but they do not play together very well as a cohesive unit when they are matched against a good team. Yeah sure, they can stomp the local smaller schools year in and year out, but if you guys just play sound fundamental football you will have no problem with the Toppers.
  11. You Maryville guys ok with a blazer joining you Friday night?
  12. Okay Elizabethton fans, what do we do with the above conundrum? Will it be easier to beat the GREENE on Nov 17?
  13. Our guys play hard but Boone just does not have the athletes to line up with anybody past Morristown. My prediction is that West will eventually get tired of scoring and just go into coast-mode to finish out the game.
  14. Region1 & Region2 Round 1 Jefferson County > Cleveland Bearden > Dobyns-Bennett Maryville > Science Hill Bradley Central > West Ridge R1 & R2 Round 2 Bearden > Jefferson County Maryville & Bradley Central - tossup R1 & R2 Round 3 Maryville or Bradley Central > Bearden
  15. Region1 & Region2 Round 1 Jefferson County > Cleveland Bearden > Dobyns-Bennett Maryville > Science Hill Bradley Central > West Ridge R1 & R2 Round 2 Bearden > Jefferson County Maryville & Bradley Central - tossup R1 & R2 Round 3 Maryville or Bradley Central > Bearden
  16. Region1 & Region2 Round 1 Sevier County > Knox Central Powell > Tenn High Halls > Mo West West > Boone R1 & R2 Round 2 Powell > Sevier County West > Halls R1 & R2 Round 3 Powell & West - could go either way
  17. West will not have to punt until they get tired of scoring and give the 2's/3's some playing experience. This is assuming that West comes in with the right mindset and not thinking only about the following week, and we all know that can happen with 16/17 year old kids.
  18. Elizabethton fans, I have a conundrum for you. It seems to be almost universally accepted that it is very hard to beat a good team twice in a season, so if that is true wouldn't it be better to lose to the GREENE tonight and then get them in a few weeks when it really matters?
  19. I'm confused...... Is this a list of 1st round exits?
  20. Guess what I was trying to say is that Eliz & Greene do not get to that level by accident, it is a very intentional path that is willing to commit to the resources, costs, staffing, etc. to build a championship team. The other schools on an overall basis (players + coaches + administration + fans + parents + .....) are not as committed to making football a #1 priority. For example: Yes, in some cases the players are working as hard as Eliz & Greene players but the administration is not really into football and has sub-par coaching or whatever. Or maybe the admin would like a great team but the players are not that into it. I'm saying that Eliz & Greene have committed to the entire package and the results show in the trophy case.
