  1. Chase Brooks is a great coach. ER has great kids. Pretty solid combination they'll be in the title conversation for the foreseeable future. If some of yall geniuses don't run him off anyway.
  2. The Coaching community is pretty tight. They'll hire an old washed up has been or a young know it all who aint ready. No one who is any good will send their resume in after that mess. At least not while the Principal and AD are in the building.
  3. To me the model shouldn’t be about “fair”. This is America the only thing fair worth talking about is the one with funnel cakes. A model containing relegations for the worst performing and promotions for the greatest is not about fair. It is about competitive balance. How is it good for the game to have the same teams in the semis every year and the same teams winning 0-2 every year? It’s not so the Ohio and California models have relegation in place. it’s about keeping kids involved and programs afloat. Don’t believe this is a good plan for college but for high school there are states who do it and it’s created a lot more parity which I think is worth a conversation. 1-9 teams making playoffs shows the Tennessee model is a joke to begin with too and has been for what 15 years?
  4. I know Franklin, Coffee, and Sweetwater finished their seasons with interims. Not sure if any took the interim tag off or if all those will open up.
  5. Smyrna went dancing again in 2010 and lost a close one. No Gray or Wilks then either. I agree it is nowhere close to what were seeing from Oakland or particularly Maryville. I do believe for those 5 years Smyrna was the standard in the mid state and the conversation was about "mantle's" being passed. That was a pretty great run they had I think those years have been forgotten a lot though.
  6. I agree except I think Smyrna has something to say from 2005-2008. Those teams get overlooked.
  7. Well just how big a boy are ya? Im tougher den a 2 dollar steak! Yall got you a squarin off place over dar? By Gawd
  8. Anyone who thinks Sharp needs to be let go at Lewis County is probably paralyzed from the ears and up. One of the most respected Coaches in the mid state.
  9. Good lord...politics make my tummy hurt. Regardless of where you are on the political spectrum, if these numbers do not go down, we wont be having football. So put ya silly masks on and quit ya squabblin! I need sports dag gummit!
  10. The problem with Grundy County is Grundy County. You folks care too much which side of the mountain whoever was born on. Then if an outsider comes in your xenophobia cranks up. So there's never an opportunity for authority or leadership to really get things done at any level. There are so many talented kids who are leaving the system to attend school in Marion or Coffee or Sequatchie depending on the sport. Yall are the lowest paying county in the state for teachers if my memory serves, but its not as if you're the lowest populated and you only have to support ONE public High School. Grundy can and should be a fantastic place. The potential for a close knit community where the ENTIRE County supports kids is there if yall can stop your clanish tribal squabbling. You have intelligent, kind, generous people at heart who I believe sincerely mean well and want their kids to stay. You have big country kids who aren't afraid of hard work. So why aren't you winning in 3A? Why can't you beat Cannon, Bledsoe, Whitwell, or teams with similar demographics and economic situations? How many Coaches, AD's, Board Members, Local politicians, etc. have yall been through the past 10 years? Why was Coach Bryant fired again? And the saddest part is the kids and parents most capable of improving matters in the future, they are being poached by AAU, Travel baseball, and football coaches in surrounding areas while theyre in the Middle Grades, and attending high school elsewhere. And yall want to fire coaches every 6 months. Yall need stability and continuity, and support the coach you have. He's a good man and a good role model he just needs an offensive coordinator by the looks of it. Stop sending death threats to ya coaches and try not to burn any important buildings down and one day yall might win some ball games.
  11. L.O.D Rush Propst is the Head Coach at Colquitt County Georgia and wins state and makes like 125,000 every year. Jeremy Pruitt worked under him at Hoover Alabama when they were featured on an MTV Reality show. Propst is probably the most well known High School coach in America. Coletrain is joking.
  12. Might be thinking Giles County. Don't forget Mac McCurry either. To say there isn't such a thing as white privilege would be naive, but things are much better now then they were even 10 years ago. A day will come when its about job performance and nothing else. I think you'd agree its still easier for some people to get second chances then others, but the beauty of athletics is at the end of the day the color of the jersey is all that matters when it comes to the players.
  13. Oh I haven't heard of that, I had only heard of the speed the Pirates have coming up. Greenback for several years now has been a mainstay, so imo the top 3 are all interchangeable. Maybe even top 4 with Lake County continuing to improve every year. Lots of good ball being played in 1A
  14. Maybe he left because probably the greatest coach in TN HS Football History wasn't appreciated in the Boro, and is now in a place where winning is more appreciated? 2-4 aren't even reasons btw, you're just mud slinging. People are already accusing Creasy of recruiting when he doesn't need to. Kids want to be a champion. They used to want to go to Riverdale. Now Riverdale is full of sour grapes and excuses it looks like. So they'll go to Oakland.
  15. 1 - South Pittsburg 2 - Greenback 3 - Huntingdon 4 - Lake County 5 - Coalfield 6 - Oliver Springs 7 - Mt. Pleasant 8 - Cornersville 9 - Whitwell 10 - Moore County
  16. So, what is the status in Tellico Plains? Tough region but opportunity to make playoffs every year with only 5 teams. Why can't Tellico Plains win, and what are some reasons a coach would want to go there? In other words...is there hope to have a winner there? Mullinax is very well thought of in coaching circles and wins were still hard for him to get.
  17. Football makes money, Soccer doesn't. You want the field? Mow it and fertilize it. Polk County, get these Girls Soccer parents under control or no one will want to coach your Football Team....a sport people actually pay to watch. Snowflake Soccer Parents need to fund raise or hop on a mower and earn the right to play on a field built and maintained with Football Money. I used to think Polk was a great place for football. Wow
  18. Abner I hear is one of the best. Came from Metro and Beech right? Amazing what that defense has done past few years over there
  19. Ultimately, a day is coming and fast when we will need 6 classes. Tennessee is growing and new schools are being built year after year. We are not going to get rid of classes, that is nonsense to even say we should, because TSSAA will make less money. Within 10 years we'll be at 7 public classes and 3 private classes probably. Feel free to bask in the wonderful member berries of days long ago when you were tougher than these millennials and walked to school in the snow everyday, and you could buy a Moon Pie for a nickel and there were 3 classes and Brentwood Academy won it every single year, but those days are gone like it or not.
  20. Because you've asked this so many times I'm going to address it. In Mississippi, the Private schools are in a completely separate association. In Georgia- Private schools have their own division In Alabama- Private Schools have a multiplier added to them. There is a debate to adopt separate classes and will probably happen in 2 years In Florida- They are separate. Schools like IMG Academy are not even allowed to participate in the playoffs however, since they are athletic and not academic focused. Arkansas- all Private Schools with 80 or more students in grade 10-12 move up 1. They ruled multipliers as unconstitutional. North Carolina- No Financial Aid allowed and most private schools are in their own associations. Texas- Public Private split with separate associations Virginia- Public Private Split with separate associations New York- Public Private split New Jersey- Public Private Split Ohio- Uses multipliers which people are still debating is unfair to the private schools. the Public schools are the power houses there, the opposite of Tennessee. As you can see this is an issue in every state. The parameters in one state are not the same in others. Each state addresses competitive balance differently, and there are complaints in every state. Most states either have a split, or a significant multiplier towards the Private Schools. Some states like Illinois factor White Flight, number of students on free and reduced lunch, or even adjust based off of success or not success according to the competition. Some states do a Rotisserie, for example the top 10 in 3A switch with the bottom 10 in 4A to address competitive balance. So when you say they are back together in most other states and why aren't they here, I don't really know which states you are talking about. Most states the Private schools want to be separate because they can't compete with private due to no financial aid rules, so they apply a multiplier and force them to stay. You can say we are in an Orwellian nightmare of socialism and talk about "the good ole days when we were tough" all you want, but the reality is participation in all sports is down and kids that do actually care about sports care more about AAU , 7 on 7, and Travel ball with private coaches they pay, then they do playing for their school. If anything they are more capitalistic towards athletics now than ever and its not for the better. I say bring them back together, keep 6 classes, and say any student who receives financial aid has to live within a certain mileage of the school. The driving from Smyrna or Murfreesboro to privates in Williamson and Davidson is part of why they are separated. The Private Schools made it noncompetitive and the recruting of players at Middle School and Freshman games by the big schools gave all Privates the rep that they all did it that way. I'm sure half of people disagree with me which is also why we have this stale debate every 2 years.
  21. One thing about Coach Smith, he is not afraid to change his mind. Maybe he'll stay more than a couple months.
  22. Like I said, if they wanted it they'd have it. They'd rather play basketball year round and hunt and fish and there is nothing wrong with that. If you live in Van Buren and care about football I imagine you move away unless White Co provides a bus or you have a parent who doesn't work from 2:30-4:30, so I'd say White gets very few of these kids. As far as the AD being upset.....he can take his thin skin and cry to some people who care cuz we don't. Its not like anything said was negative about Van Buren its just odd to have an entire county in the South with no football. God forbid anyone asks a question in America
  23. We won't know because I doubt any Van buren folks check the T. If they wanted it they would have it. Sad they don't.
  24. The job has been posted on T$$AA. So it would be a little awkward if he wasn't fired and they hired a new HC.
