  1. There is a lesson in this. Before one casts stones from a self-righteous perspective by thinking his/her school and students do no wrong, please be mindful these are high school kids. Excuse the conduct? No way! But before jumping on or even reveling in another school's misfortune, just know that given long enough, there is a real chance you will be in the same place. I hope this hits home for a conspicuously absent poster and brings some well-deserved humility.
  2. per 9/16 newspaper article-- " White points to the Division II committee's recommendation to divide three classes evenly as the best way to comprise the league. The TSSAA staff also recommended that proposal. Instead, the TSSAA's Board of Control passed set enrollments to make up the league. Schools with enrollments from 1-265 are in DII-A, 266-530 are in DIIAA and schools with larger enrollments go to DII-AAA. "The proposal we put forth when we all met at Goodpasture this summer alleviated all that," White said of a Division II informational meeting that took place before the Board of Control vote was held. "It had us a good equal division of teams everyone could fill a schedule, you could establish some good local games with good crowds and not have to miss so much school. "It just so happens that wasn't followed and if you look closely at it you'll see there are a couple of guys on those committees that were curiously right under that change in the number." The article goes on to identify the schools and the athletic directors as well as the continued consideration BA and Ensworth might not play up in DII-AAA which obviously they ultimately did. I wasn't in the meeting, but I believe the DII committee and TSSAA had compromise and parity in mind as best as they could account for considering all current DI teams moving to DII were not known at the time. Instead their recommendations were not followed. The question is why and only those in the room know... but if it sounds like a duck and walks like a duck.......
  3. I have seen Lausanne multiple times- 2019 team will not be anything like 2016-2018 teams and not just because Gray is gone. Over the last 3 years they have had skill, speed and size all over the filed. Not disrespecting the 2019 team as I'm sure they will live up to the Lausanne legacy, but from what I saw it will not be at the same level and not just at RB. However, they seem to somehow find talent ....
  4. I agree that more scholarship players equals a more talented team, generally. What I don't agree is that student population makes no difference. By your logic, generally a team with a few scholarship players will beat a team with no scholarship players. Therefore, a team with many scholarship players will beat a team with a few scholarship players. I won't argue this generalization. However, no team has all scholarship players; therefore, where do the other players come from? The student body! A larger student body will offer a greater number of talented non-scholarship players than a smaller student body. LA and Webb knew this, didn't/don't have as many players on scholarship as other schools they would have to play and also did not have a student body like CBHS, MUS, etc to pull from, so they made sure to stay in D2AA for that reason. Unless the team is strictly scholarship players, your theory must include the student body.
  5. If they had played in D2AAA it would have been 0-22. Whether the bank robber stole $100 or $100,000 his intent was to steal. I won't belabor the point, but what those two school reps did was in my mind reprehensible. Also, I agree with you about the scholarship players. Is this a known number and since it is supposed to be needs based, do you differentiate between a player receiving 10% scholarship assistance vs. 25%, 50%, etc or just once you meet the scholarship player distinction that's it?
  6. Well lets see- Webb and Lipscomb were the obvious two who had school reps on the Board of Control and voted against the TSSAA's staff recommendation of how to split D2 which conveniently placed them just barely in AA rather than AAA. I know there are some other schools which benefited and maybe keep their populations in check but those two schools blatantly took care of their own. As stated many times, I don't like D2 having to go out and bring in kids to play any sport who were not going to the school already. It's college recruiting dripping down to high school to D2AAA, to D2AA and will be D2A and in some cases already is. Such is life and is nothing new. I get the idea of little Johnny being raised in his D2 program only to be supplanted his junior year by the new stud transfer and little Johnny and family now are mad as he sits the bench. What about this twist-- how fair and safe is it for the really good player on the D2 team who due to the school's stance of not bringing in stud transfers, has to play both ways, be on the punt and kickoff teams and risk injury against other D2 programs who do have multiple transfers/acquired talent? This guy needs some help for his own sake much less the team's but his school refuses to bring in talent to assist- does he now transfer?
  7. Ahh which path shall you take Grasshopper? I believe the path has been shown and decision has already been made.
  8. Does Dilfer have a lot to learn? Probably, mostly dealing with parents and administration, etc. Does he know football? Absolutely. Will he be successful? Who knows, but where did you guys want him to start before high school- Pop Warner? Please see Chris Weinke. He played through the pros and then some how, magically, headed up IMG Academy before going on to QB coach the Rams, then Bama and now he's at UT? Sounds pretty successful to me and he never started out as an assistant HS coach anywhere to my knowledge. Just my opinion. I hope he does well and I think some of the negativity has to do with self-preservation.
  9. BT-congrats again to CPA on the big win. I know you are proud. Prayers for your son and family hoping a full recovery is forthcoming. May God’s peace and healing abound. Have a great holiday season!
  10. I just saw the Kansas City Chiefs and the devils would smoke them if they played
  11. I'll take Haywood by 7. If they play to their ability, limit mistakes and penalties this team can win. I have seen them in person and they are good. Just need to play consistent ball. Former west Tenn boy pulling for Haywood big time in this one!
  12. Lausanne' field- terrible. That's the argument against CPA's field is it places the visiting team at a huge disadvantage which is 100% correct. however Lausanne's does the same except in different ways. IMO home cookin for both it's just Lausanne was on the short in of the stick for once
  13. Exactly right. Teams deserve better when in the playoffs especially. Like having adequate facilities for opposing teams fans so they are not sitting on 3 foot high soccer bleachers that are about to tip over. Or fans milling about among the players because there is no room to stand or sit. Or maybe the opposing teams cheerleaders placed off in the endzone away from everyone. Or maybe even the refs doing a bit of home cooking. Yep, Karma definitely paid a visit.
  14. If the BOC members stay the same as last time (and I haven't researched to see if they are or not) then $5 says Webb and LA drop down to single A ball somehow. Probably will cut D2 into 2 classes so they can stay in the bottom half
  15. Private schools have to travel, get used to it. How many teams are in this classification 10? The top 3 or 4 teams will run roughshod over this class. Cupcake schedule compared to AA
  16. Congrats BT and CPA-very glad you guys won. I know that embrace very well-it's one I will always remember. now go get that gold ball
  17. CPA- LBs, QB, Receiver, field and strategic holding (sorry but it's true) especially on the outside on Kinley. If they can get away with that, then QB plenty of time to throw Luzi- Gray, LBs, DE, DBs, QB and big game from a receiver I asked someone who has played both this year and he said Luzi. 35-27 Luzi
  18. Boog- Request permission to print your post for rebuttal of wife allegation when necessary.
  19. Now Wilson, don't make me find an old thread from a couple years ago where you said IF Lausanne had any co-opers from PCA, they didn't play much and weren't very good. I remember seeing one like that. In the mean time, old #2 DE from PCA was an all stater in 2016 and dominated last years championship game with about 15 tackles including 4 or 5 sacks after not playing the whole season! Luzi's compassion for the co-opers must be mutually beneficial.
  20. Thanks Boog- not sure if you were serious, but .... I'm pulling for the, as you call them, Presbyterians, as well. Have never cared for the co-opin model and while I'm sure CPA has their share of hired guns, Luzi is loaded with them. Still don't know if my support will be enough to pull the Pres crew through, but it's what I would like to see.
  21. Oh no doubt Bread CPA is very fast. RBs and the super receiver are all quick and explosive as I have seen them in person as well. It's just that Gray is Barry Sanders-like and can make you miss before he hits that 5th gear. Mud and field conditions are gonna negate the Sanders moves more than people realize is all I'm saying and then it's just hit the hole and that's where your top notch LBs come into play. From what I've seen Gray likes to cross from off guard/tackle and go the other way frequently. That takes a hard move and I see lots of slippin and slidin. If it comes down to passing then I think you have the advantage due to your QB and awesome receiver. Luzi can sling it some too, but the 6-5 QB imo is much more dangerous running than throwing. But even though he is really big, he's got some nifty moves of his own which again does the mud negate?
  22. Sparty took a bunch of grief last year over this comment, but I think he is dead on. Remember I'm not talking about past games where it made a difference in the outcome. I'm only talking about Luzi and CPA game for 11/16/18. The field condition makes a huge difference for a speed/cutting team like Luzi.
  23. I saw the helicopter trying to dry off the CPA field. If they are smart, CPA will use a wildfire Chinook helicopter this week to dump more water on the field for Luzi. CPA is fast, Luzi is blazing. Mud and a field that turns to slop after the first series tends to neutralize the advantage. If this were played on turf I would say Luzi by 10-14. Instead it may be dead even. I'm telling you CPA boys know how to run and cut in that stuff.
  24. I think the field condition is a definite advantage for CPA only because they are familiar with dealing with the mud. Their runners especially and really all of the players take cuts and corner like they are running on ice. The opposing team is not familiar with this and you will see them slip, fall, fumble, etc. Definite home team advantage
  25. Gotcha-we've had a lot of rain this year but didn't think that much- your field and facilities are beautiful but.....
