  1. I Remember one of the Knoxville news papers from 1977 after the game was played .Their quote was “Bad news Bears” , I think it was SC’s first win in several games.Something like 18-0.
  2. I’m not a wordsmith as most of you already know and probably will misspell half this. The one that matters most is definitely honored by the outpouring of love and support she has received from Keith’s friends and many people on social media. From this website to VolNation and everything in between. For those that didn’t know him personally, BVD was truly a VOL and Devil fan.His passion for these teams was like no one I’ve ever seen. Maybe our dad was a close second. More importantly is what matters to every father or mother out there, he was a great dad himself and nothing was more important to him then that.
  3. A lot of good reading so far. I agree with a lot of things but it is simple when you run up against a team that is just as strong and athletic as you are. You can’t make mistakes on the field or by not adjusting to what is happening on the field. I use to make fun of how Nebraska just ran so much and looked so vanilla some times. Then Peyton and the boys got a to see first hand in the orange bowl that sometimes if you have the horses, just let them run. I also would like to see Greeneville put it in the air and be a natural part of the game if it’s first down or third down and keep the opponents guessing (when they need to) . Sure is easy to coach from the bleachers and that is what makes this one of the greatest sports invented. As to the forfeit situation, I’d much rather learn a lesson early in the season. Can you imagine that news after a state championship game and have to forfeit a gold ball..
  4. Yep, A couple of things stood out in an all most perfect game for the Devils and I know the coaches will be all over those things.Penalties and containment can get you beat against an otherwise equally matched opponent. As mentioned in a few post back, one of the best plays I seen during the night was by the Devil Linebacker and I’m partial to that position. Should have went for a monster DB play but blown up . I’d love to have seen that 75 yard run not called back and seen where the single game record books would have been today, and I have no idea who has that record . Va tech is getting some kind of athlete.
  5. By far this has always been my favorite matchup in local high school football. The Tribe ruled the area when I was growing up and like David going against Goliath whenever they were on any of our sports schedules. You never overlook an opponent, especially a goliath like DB. I’ll have to watch from home but expect it to be an overflow crowd for sure. All jokes aside, the DB band is worth double the price of admission. I didn’t appreciate it when my kids were athletes at DB ,but have to admit, any group that competes for national championships has my respect
  6. My grand father and father use to sit on the visiting side at Greeneville games after it changed as well. Pretty simple answer for most is they get there early and get great seats and yes the sun not in your eyes. Many times I’ve sit right in the middle of the other teams fan base just to get to know folks from Maryville, Alcoa or several other places when traveling or at home games of Greeneville or my kids Dobyns Bennett teams. Same with SEC games and believe me, every fan base there has it’s share of “cousin Eddie’s “
  7. This game is still in the balance but I thought a couple weeks ago that if anyone in 4A beats PC, they will have to be one of the best teams in the state without a doubt . Upperman has played a great game , these are the two best teams teams in 4A , no question.Great game so far.
  8. Just catching up and first of all , congratulations to Upperman on a very good game.Very few 4A teams in the last several years have beat Greeneville at their own physical game. Another great season for the Devils and nothing wrong with a state semifinal run. I can remember the days of never getting into the playoffs at all, so maybe hold our horses on being to upset with such a terrible season. I can count, well no I can’t. There are hundreds of schools that would have taken the Devils season and been extremely proud.
  9. Yep, from everything I’ve seen, Pearl Cohn is the real deal this year and if one of the other final four teams is able to beat them, they will have to be one of the very best teams in the state no matter the size
  10. Yep, a lot of Betsy and Devil fans like those noise makers. I’d say most never got to see their intended use on a farm.As to this weeks game, I don’t know anything about Greeneville’s opponent. I couldn’t point it out on a state map for any amount of money. The same could have been said about Greeneville less then a couple decades ago. I figured for either Greeneville or Elizabethton to make the semifinals this year, they would have to play better then the season meeting between the two. You never know in the final four where the best team will come from. It use to be a given that the 4a team from East Tennessee (NET down through the Knoxville area) would be the favorite, but now it’s anybody’s guess.
  11. I’m in a small percentage but I can’t stand Cow bells either
  12. Without reading any of the stuff from the last several days, I hope the Tssaa takes a closer look at bands playing or artificial noise from the crowd while teams are running plays.I don’t have a problem with fans getting loud and a natural home field advantage like at Neyland, but last Friday night was classless and I’m certainly not a classy snob by any means. Funny thing is the Georgia pep band played the same junk before a snap but quit before UT ran a play. Yes , I’ve seen it many times at high school games , but the tssaa needs to go the way of the NCAA rules on this.
  13. I'll just give my thoughts without reading through. I look at Elizabethton as being a whole lot like the Devils and this is a great game for the Devil staff to watch .I never count a victory before the game is played but if the Devils can't take care of business this week ,then I guess someone was looking forward to the 3rd round like Batman is.If AC wins,it's like the Devil staff get's Elizabethton's do over and if Elizabethton wins, then they get their own do over game against the Devils.Don't know if any of that makes sense, but this game has a chance to be one of the best in the state this week. Two great programs that know how to bring back the gold and either team will have my full respect no matter the outcome. I hope it's injury free and a great game !
  14. My thoughts during the game was that both teams are similar but both will have to get better each week going forward if either wants to bring back another title to NET.Almost seems like each offense didn’t want to show something and holding back .I guess two solid defensive teams will make you look that way. That first long Devil pass had me thinking of Devil teams a few years ago but then it was pound the rock until someone finished on top. Who knows, this may be the key to running the table if you can get past the first three rounds. That’s why our coaches are the coaches and we are the fans. Both teams played their hearts out and gave everything they had, that’s about all you can ask .
  15. As I said earlier in the year, this is just the first meeting. Nobody has won the biggest prize yet and both these teams are very similar. That said, I’ll take a win over a great team any night
  16. Good luck Elizabethton, hope the weather is good there , looks like rain here in Greeneville
  17. I shouldn't because I might need a good car deal. I don't know much about Axis but would think they have some pretty solid guys and it was probably just a smart decision from their management not to take a kid out of the stadium, not so much because it was Steve Grindstaff
