  1. I agree. We were a one seed that year, plus the three upset the two in our bracket, giving us an easy win in round two.
  2. No disrespect to McMinn, but I don’t believe that this game is close. McMinn has benefited from the weak schedule. Going way back to my days in the Volunteer State, I always saw McMinn as an underachieving program. I always felt that you could win a state championship at McMinn, if the pieces fell right. You couldn’t win one every year, but you could be in the mix, more years than not.
  3. Go Hillsboro! I was there for those three games. Yes, sitting in the bleachers. That onside kick was a killer!
  4. No, I wore a coach’s shirt, and I am too old and slow to be on a chain gang. Lol. We will have to agree to disagree. Best wishes to whoever your team is. P.S.- Be sure to wear thick underwear, those bleachers can get hard.
  5. Valid points. But, we can’t continue to ignore the fact that there is an elephant in the room....
  6. First off, I am not currently affiliated with, or a fan of, any program. Secondly, if, God forbid, Oakland and Maryville are taken out of the playoffs in the 2nd round by Covid, can you tell me with a straight face that whoever wins Game 15 will have a legitimate claim to being state champs?
  7. Let’s you and I compare credentials on high school football, shall we? I’ll take the liberty of going first. I have been involved with high school football for over 35 years, with 5 different programs, in 2 different states, with multiple state championships, and I DON’T mean sitting in the bleachers. Your turn!
  8. They did the top 3 thing in 1993. Changed it to top 4 the next year.
  9. I’ll let you guys in on a secret; this year’s state champions will always have an asterisk by them. That is especially true for 6A, because of no Whitehaven. Also, White Station was suppose to have a good team this year. That’s not even factoring in the fact that more teams will doubtless be sidelined during the playoffs by Covid. Somebody will hoist a trophy in Cookeville in December, but they will have no claim of being the best in the state.
  10. That’s always seemed to be Rhea’s achilles heal, lack of team speed. Going all the way back to the 80’s and their two state final losses (Nashville Overton in 81, Memphis Hillcrest in 85) the difference was team speed.
  11. Good question. I don’t know the answer. I failed to mention McCallie and Baylor. Obviously they have had some success.
  12. The only constant in Chattanooga thru the years has been Red Bank. Tyner had their day, and Ooltawah (sic?) had it going for a while. Now they have came back to the pack. Soddy-Daisy had a couple of good teams when Bill Price was there.
  13. Fannin went to Pepperell last Friday and won big. That’s not an easy place to play. I’d say Fannin wins easily.
  14. Can’t argue with you there Knox. It was the 80’s and 90’s when I was in Tennessee.
  15. When I was in Tennessee, I wish I had a dollar for every time I heard “When you go to Rhea Co. you have to play the officials too.” First off, there is no such thing as a Rhea Co. official. Officials are assigned to different locations each week. Also, you would pick up the paper Saturday morning, and you would see where Rhea had 10 penalties for over 100 yards, while the other team had 6 penalties for 50 yards.
  16. Brainerd is mainly known as a basketball school, but they have some decent football teams from time to time.
  17. I watched most of this game. One thing that impressed me was the number of players Rhea Co. dressed out. They pass more than a typical wing-t team. Too bad they didn’t get to play Red Bank, that would’ve been a good indication of how they might do in the playoffs.
  18. I doubt seriously that he has the caliber of players that he had at previous stops.
  19. I did the past 6 years. I’m retired now.
  20. He had modest success at best in Georgia. He did lay the foundation for future success as hc at North Gwinnett. His best run was as dc for John Reid at East Paulding. He was a finalist for the hc job at Rome years ago, but they hired from within. He did a heck of a job as dc at Rhea Co. The late Bill Horton never won another playoff game after TH left.
  21. A. Nobody cares what your name is. B. Nobody cares if you are joking. C. You need to learn some manners. D. I count 6 spelling errors in the above post alone! Exactly where were you educated?
  22. You never count Maryville out, but it will be tough to win at Oakland this year.
  23. I live in Georgia, a much bigger state, and we have one less class than Tennessee.
