  1. It was a bend but not break defensive effort by Alcoa. Gave up alot of yards between the twenties. McCallie has a good offense and the defense was better than last years. I am surprised they went for the tie and O.T. Since it was a non region road game I thought they would take one more shot at the end zone. On a side note this was the first game of the season where Alcoa committed more turnovers than the opposition.
  2. CAK by at least 3 touchdowns. The fight for playoff position begins this week for Region 2 AA.
  3. Too far to drive for this one. Fall break starts this Friday so I believe it is a good time to head to the beach. The only other road game for the Tornadoes will be Oliver Springs ; Not quite as far to drive but only slightly better of a game.
  4. I was picking Alcoa to win by a touchdown but with the weather looking like it will be a factor I will have to call a toss up. I think , because of experience , that Coleman will be less affected by the rain. This is Randall Cobb's first real game action with the wet ball. But I have a lot of faith in " Man Cobb. ' Win or lose this game makes him better.
  5. It was 50 - 0. Let us not forget though , that is the 4th time in 6 years that AMS has won and it did not translate into a win in high school. ......... But it was fun to watch.
  6. It is impossible to compare a team from one season to one from another season. This Alcoa team can do things last years group could not do and vice versa. It all comes down to a matter of opinions. Now to this weeks game. I think maybe another shootout like last season. It will come down to the McCallie defense. If it is on par with Maryville and Fulton the Blue Tornado will win the game. If not , then the Tornadoes will win this track meet. (IMO)
  7. For Loudon it was all Hawkins. Literally. The kid is the real deal. They lined him up at quarterback in the shotgun , they lined him up at tailback in the I and they lined him up at halfback. He must have had thirty or forty touches. They were most successful snapping the ball to him and letting him do his own thing. He really broke a few ankles and had one long TD run where we saw his speed. For Alcoa it was an offensive showcase. They did not have a single punt or turnover. Randall Cobb was outstanding. He hooked up with Sommers for two long TD tosses , One bomb to Lanxter , One to his tight end Rae Sykes and one to Darrell Tate after pulling the Mike Vick act and escaping a couple sack attempts. Tate showed his skill after making the catch. Shivvy had about three scores , one by way of a 78 yard ankle breaker of his own. The final score came by way of the second teamers with Cameron Battles tallying six. It should be a shootout next week against McCallie. The Tornado D needs to step it up.
  8. He is 1-0. Has yet to get into the meat of his schedule.
  9. It will be as bad as Fultom wants it to be.
  10. I have been out of town all weekend and am late posting on this game. Alcoa had their chances and did not make the most of them. I tip my hat to Fulton. They fought back and took control of the line of scrimmage and won the game. I said last year that the Falcons had the best run defense that Alcoa faced all season and it looks like they may have the best run and overall defense we will face this year. (IMO) Great size and great speed all over the field. I will be surprised if the Falcons don't bring home the gold ball in 3A. I hope these two teams renew this rivalry infinitely.
  11. I love the band during the game when they are up in the stands. They fire up the crowd and most of the players. I think they are a part of the tradition of high school and college football. That said , I can do without the halftime show , in particular the singing of the Alma Matre. It must be a requirement that the Alma Matre be as lame as possible. I love the band when they are off the field and in their seats.
  12. This will be a different game from last year IMO. Fulton has an experienced QB and that will make a huge difference. The Fulton defense will be tough to run against but anyone that thinks this Tornado team is less than their predecessors would be greatly mistaken. (CAK thought so) It may not have the marquee players like Warren and Lindsey but they have more very good players and much better coaching. This game should be a classic.
  13. You were correct. Heritage did surprise everyone. After the way you built them up we at least thought it would be close. I have seen this movie before.
  14. This game was about what I expected. Knox County refs kept it from getting ugly.
  15. Heritage has not yet played a top quality opponent. Don't forget the start they had last year. Nonetheless I think they are much improved. W-B beat a solid Sevier County team and a not so solid Northwest team. The Gov defensive front 7 is outstanding , the secondary average. The verdict is still out on the offense although I am very impressed with the way Darren Walker runs the football. I see this team being unbeaten going into the Maryville game. I hope both teams advance deep into the playoffs.
  16. I understand what you are saying and agree that they might have affected the score. Justin Smith's first deflected pass , which was an outstanding play , also affected the final score. Alcoa had the hook and lateral set up on the play and Shivvy would have taken it to the house. Both teams are headed back to the Boro in my opinion.
  17. Alcoa forced the turnovers. The first fumble came due to an Alcoa defender putting his hat on the ball. I could not see how the other fumble occurred. On the int, Sommers had great position and made an outstanding play. Turnovers are a part of the game and part of the stats. It was just an incredible football game , one of the best I have ever seen. I am anxious to see how these two teams stack up against future opponents. That will tell us how good both are.
  18. I could not agree with you more. Rankin did what he needed to do to put his team in a position to win the game. My team played their hearts out and came up short. The better team won. If the fans are disappointed just think how the kids feel. We have a good thing in Rankin and I am sure he will win his share against the Rebels before he is through. But if not , as long as his team represents the way they did tonight , we should be proud of them.
  19. They did not run at BW last year because he was standing on the sidelines in street clothes. They did run away from Rae most of the time but not all of the time. With their split back formation , which always features 2 outstanding backs , Maryville is hard to defense. Rankin has given the defensive coaches a freedom to operate that they never enjoyed when John Reid was HC. That in its self makes this a better team and hopefully a more competitve game.
  20. Kyrus did get a bad start , probably thinking about all the false starts last year. He almost caught Wiggington at the finish.
  21. That is what makes this region so tough and exciting. Right off the bat you got a big game. Bam!!!!
  22. 1.Maryville 2.Alcoa 3.Fulton 4.Catholic 5.Powell 6.Oak Ridge 7.West 8.Central 9.A-E 10.Farragut
