  1. Is this a Sullivan County school or Kingsport city?

Farragut beat Bradley Central 2-1 in 10 innings on Monday. Bears have a real good chance to be in Murfreesboro and make some noise.

OSU, who else in district 3 besides Karns could make some noise? Does Powell have enough to make a deep run like they did a couple years ago?

Well of course, but who's gonna beat them in sub-state or state again this year?

Who should make some noise this time of year as we approach 2 weeks from tournament play?
  6. AC got a big kid to come back home after spending his freshman year at Webb last season
  7. I'm not certain but I believe they did away with the 10-day timeline two years ago. Now, you just have to post the job for applications and interview 3 applicants.
  8. Only 14 years too late. Final score was actually 42-41 for OR at Central. Blocked XP. 1991 Oak Ridge at Central semifinals
  9. Very interesting column. 1984 was the last year that only the district champions qualified for the playoffs and there were only 4 rounds of the playoffs (16 teams) back then. 1985 was the first year of the expansion to 5 rounds and saw the district champs AND runner-ups qualify for the playoffs... The 1984 Farragut Admirals were ranked in the top 10 in Class AAA all year. They opened the year by defeating Rhea Co. in Evensville 25-6. (RC made the AAA semifinals in 1983). Farragut started the year 3-0 and were ranked #3 in the state. They lost to an upstart Doyle team 13-7 for their only district loss of the year. They followed that up the next week by losing at Oak Ridge 14-7. They would go to win their last 5 games and finish the year 8-2 including a win over Kingsport D-B at home. Their only two losses would be to undefeated teams. Doyle would go 10-0 and be crowned champions of district 4-AAA, and OR would go 10-0 as well, champions of district 3-AAA. Subsequently, Oak Ridge would beat Doyle in the first round of the playoffs to be crowned Region 2-AAA Champions but would fall to Jefferson County the next week. Back then, East TN ran through the Patriots of Jeff Co. (The Admirals lost to Jeff Co. the prior year in the 1983 playoffs, 28-14, after defeating Oak Ridge for the region championship the week before). However the finish, the 1984 Farragut Admirals would go 8-2 and never drop out of the top 10 rankings for Class AAA, but did not qualify for the playoffs. This has to be one of the best teams, along with the teams like the 1979 DB Indians, to not make the playoffs. 1984 Farragut Admirals coached by Dan Bland @ Rhea County W 25-6 (coached by Bill Horton) Bearden W 35-7 @ Karns W 31-0 Doyle L 7-13 @ Oak Ridge L 7-14 (coached by Bill Young) Dobyns-Bennett W 14-13 (coached by Ted Wilson) @ Carter W 21-15 @ Sevier Co. W 31-9 Heritage W 28-13 William Blount W 39-22 Interesting note: That Doyle team broke a 26-game losing streak that ended in the last game of the 1983 season. They would carry that momentum into 1984 to go undefeated before losing to OR. And while I mention one team that did not qualify for the playoffs back then, I could probably list all those Jeff Co. teams from the 1980's that did not win a state title. They were in the semifinals or finals every year from 1983-89 yet only won the AAA title in 1987. Those were some tough teams.
  10. Games for 1/30: Farragut at HVA Catholic at Heritage Bearden at Lenoir City Fulton at WB
  11. Wow, 10 state titles and 14 state title game appearances coming from Region 2 since 2012.
  12. Farragut @ Maryville games tonight getting moved up. Girls- 5:00 & Boys- 6:30p.
  13. Games for Tues 1/9: West (2-10) at Bearden (19-1) Wm Blount (7-8) at Farragut (8-9) Lenoir City (6-9) at Catholic (12-2)
  14. Win totals: Bearden: LC 78-34, WB 79-54, HVA 88-63, FHS 76-53, HHS 103-69, MHS 62-45 Maryville: KCHS 72-61, FHS 54-51, LC 68-32, WB 58-39, West 71-61 Catholic: HHS 64-56, WB 57-55, West 69-54, FHS 65-57, HVA 60-51 Heritage: LC 57-42, HVA 80-76, FHS 64-58 Lenoir City: FHS 58-57, HVA 52-42 Wm Blount: HVA 69-59, West 85-72 HVA: West 66-44 Farragut: West 50-46 West: Heritage 64-60
  15. Standings going into the Christmas break: Bearden (6-0) [14-0] Maryville (5-1) [8-2] Catholic (5-1) [7-1] Heritage (3-3) [3-6] Lenoir City (2-3) [4-5] Wm Blount (2-3) [4-6] Hardin Valley (1-5) [5-6] Farragut (1-5) [4-8] West (1-5) [2-6]
  16. The 60/20/20 split for playoff games makes it hard for any football program to make a profit in the playoffs. Especially now when the officials are paid out of the home team's 20%.
  17. Farragut owned the line of scrimmage and was the difference in the game. That and SH making more costly mistakes (not recovering the opening kickoff, and snapping the ball over the punter's head). Both of those in the first 5 minutes. SH quarterback is a very special player. Toppers will be a tough out for anyone left on their schedule. Admirals missed opportunities to be up 14 at the half, and then went three and out to start the 2nd half to allow SH to keep it close. When it mattered most, FHS managed to run the final 7 mins off the clock and punch in the deciding score with less than :15 secs left.
  18. New coach will not hold back on the poor Govs. Maryville big.
  19. I'm thinking it may go all the way back to the games with Rule HS back in the early 80's. The 1980 AA State Championship was played at Rule when the Bears had the Cofer boys. BA played AE, Alcoa, and Powell in AA State Championship games a few years later, but all those were played at Vandy.
  20. BA big. Sparty, you may know this, but when was the last time BA came to Knoxville to play? Eagles have to had played Webb or Catholic before, correct?
  21. I see a closer game. Bruins on top 31-24
  22. Trojans have the slight advantage as far as talent goes. They been getting all the athletes since they came together with the South Rockets. But the purple people eaters are playing better as a team. I'll take Dollywood at home 23-21.

Should be another good game. No matter who wins, I favor both on Friday to make it to Murfreesboro.
