  1. I'd say you are most likely right, and if I had to bet I would bet on those 4. I wouldn't be completely shocked if Jellico beat N.G. though.
  2. Just to make people call me names too I'll throw my 2 cents in. If you get multiple transfers at a public school multiple years in a row that comes in and immediately helps your program....that's not coincidence. We get transfers every year, the vast majority don't even play sports. Of those that do VERY few are EVER any good let alone contribute right away. In the last 16 years here I've seen maybe 15-20 kids transfer here and play ball. about half of those had ZERO intentions of even playing ball when they got here. I've seen 4 kids in 16 years transfer in here and immediately help us. I've seen ONE come in and be an All Region type player.
  3. Semifinals and finals at Walters State should be a fun atmosphere. I think District 2 has a chance to get 2 teams there this year. We should take care of business on our home floor and Jellico aint bad fellas. Coached well, got one STUD! and several other scrappy young guys that play well on their home floor. UH and Hampton should be in good shape. Washburn isnt very good, they are fairly big in the post but just not super talented. Hancock may give Hampton trouble for about a half. They are coached well have some decent athletes and a loud environment wont phase em, just lack of depth and shooting at times hurts em.
  4. We are playing Jellico for the championship and Hancock and Washburn are playing for 3rd and 4th so my 1-4 predictions are looking pretty good. Whoever gets the 1 seed on your side will be in great shape first round as Washburn isn't very good. Our 1-3 are all going to challenge district 1. Jellico is playing well right now and Hancock is just good enough to sneak up on someone , and we are playing well right now too. Should be a fun Region tourny this year.
  5. We are really athletic , play good defense, and most nights we shoot it pretty well. If we stay out of foul trouble we are hard to handle. We need to take care of business and get as many home post season games as we can. We are really hard to beat here. District 1 scares me if we have to go up there for a region game (shouldn't happen). We ran Unaka off the floor here and they took us to the wire up there and they may be your 6th best team or they may win your tourny lol..
  6. whos gonna be your top 4 that goes to the region tourny up there uknoit? We're gonna have IMO 1-Cosby 2-Jellico 3-Hancock 4-Washburn That is definitely our 4 region teams, I think 2 and 3 could change but i think 1 and 4 are pretty solid. We start those 4 playing Friday. We (Cosby) are pretty good and I believe if we stay healthy and play like we normally do we have a shot to go deep again. Jellico has one stud who can drop 30 on anybody and could put 50 up on a good night, not close to the team we are though. Hancock plays hard and is coached well and can be sneaky good. Ive seen them play us pretty tight for the whole game at Hancock and played us tough for a half down here. Washburn isnt awful but they are very beatable by almost anyone in district 1.
  7. You ever been to a ball game at Clinch High School? I bet you haven't ...either way I have been to several and there has NEVER been enough money come in the gate to pay the officials for the game THAT night! I'm not knocking Clinch but they would never make enough gate or concessions money to buy extra. Also , can you imagine uncle jim bob running the shot clock and not resetting it at a crucial time in a big time game! This is a poor uninformed take on small school sports IMO.
  8. You're VERY wrong about this. There may be some small schools like that but most of us get ZERO money from the school system and use all of the money made at gates and concessions to pay officials, buy unis , balls and other equipment necessary just to keep the program going, and at the end of the season after our largest fundraiser and all the bills are paid if we still have ANY money in the account it has been a good season! You are correct in saying most disagreements are with the small schools however. Most rules and regulations are legislated by members of larger schools and work more in favor of larger schools. While that is frustrating I understand why...majority rules is as fair as you can make it.
  9. Unaka is such a tough place to play. If you go to the creek and get a win in that gym its a good win. I cant tell whats a walk, foul , charge ,or anything anymore. Kids and refs watch too much NBA!
  10. We are a good bit better than everyone else uknoit. Hancock is probably #2 down here and are just like they always are...really tough at home but get them away from Sneedville and they are very average. Jellico has a Freshman STUD!! but the rest of the team is VERY mediocre. Washburn and GB are bad.
  11. Jellico has 1 REALLY good player but team overall isn't great, If you have to go TO Hancock they're hard to beat there. GB is bad, washburn isnt terrible but they arent a threat to win a region game.
  12. I think it will eventually happen. I dont like it but its going to happen. So many new coaches coming into the game who want one along with surrounding states doing it will eventually force TSSAA's hand. To begin with it will only be a cost to install new clocks and controls, the next step is going to be paying a 4th official to run the clock similar to football. some small schools who can barely afford to keep the program going will be hurt bad by this. I dont think a lot of people who arent or have never been involved with High School sports factor this in, they just think those shot clocks and money for a 4th official magically appear.
  13. This is 100% why there should never be a shot clock in High School. Officials catch enough heat as it is, I cant imagine the trouble it would cause if daddy running the shot clock messed it up. Also the expense for some small schools would be tough.
  14. Congrats to Eduardo Gonzalez from Cosby! First All State player we have had in several years and first EVER All State Kicker! He also led the team in rushing yards and tackles...lol got to love small school football!
  15. none of those schools are under 300 and they are all in the second largest city in the state. I get what you're trying to say that Memphis is good at Basketball...got it! The stats are still there, the more you have to choose from the more likely you are to have talent. They're literally 500,000 more people in Memphis than in the entirety of Blount county.
  16. Read my post again where I said "RANDOM"kids at "RANDOM" places and some schools excel at certain sports which skew the numbers. Now with that being said name 3 more schools with 300 kids or less that would beat a William Blount size school on the regular?
  17. You pick your team from 300 kids , I'll pick mine from 1,500....you have no chance to beat me in any sport 99% of the time. Now teams that are traditionally better at certain sports will draw better players to that school and away from others which will sometimes skew the percentages, but just random kids in random places Numbers mean A LOT!
  18. I'm not sure I can comprehend the point you're making. I'm just saying if TSSAA wants to divide up divisions and classifications to be more competitive an urban/rural split would accomplish that easier than using student population alone. I think you were trying to trash small towns in TN. with your last sentence but I can't decipher your "City Talk", besides I would rather stay in "seawater" and never win any championship as have to live in a large city any day.
  19. The biggest disparity in High School football is Urban vs. Rural, or $$$ vs. no $$$. Schools with brand new weight rooms , locker rooms, artificial turf fields , and 15 varsity coaches have a HUGE advantage over the school out in the county with the 50 year old locker room , ancient weight racks , the rough muddy grass field and 3 paid coaches. People somehow find a way to argue this isnt the case. They usually say "Work Harder"?? 3 paid coaches CAN NOT outwork 15 no matter how hard they try. Hard Work doesn't attract athletes to your program like shiny new locker rooms and fancy uni's do.
  20. I know you hate the travel and i dont blame you. I am glad yall are in our Basketball district. If you werent there would be very little competition for us at all. until yall came to district 2 it was AWFUL! our worst teams would run away with the district title!
  21. Maybe I should put it that the 3 and 4 seed in region 2 would whip everyone but Cloudland. Has Sunbright beat anyone besides Oakdale?
  22. Just a solid example that most of the posters on this thread will agree with. A 2 win region 2 1A team is 99% of the time gonna whip everyone in Region 1 1A except Cloudland.
  23. I have to give a big congrats to my Cosby Lady Eagles! Little rural school with half the enrollment of everyone at the state tourny in 1A and making it to the semis! Way to go ladies! I hated to see us have to play Signal MT. in a mud hole. Speed and the long ball is definitely what we do best and the mud completely took that away. I honestly dont think a dry field would have changed the outcome but it would have made for a better game for our girls to go out in!
  24. What about a AAAA team in a 5 team region that goes 6-4? 0-4 in their region and 6-0 against the 6 1A cupcakes they scheduled... What about the 1A team thats in a 5 team region that goes 2-8? 2-2 in their region and 0-6 against the gauntlet of 3A and 4A teams.. winning record doesnt always mean youre good and losing record doesnt always make you bad.
  25. Don’t get me wrong , they kicked our tails! We moved the ball just couldn’t get in the endzone or catch a break with the stripes. We never stopped em once. Like I said we aren’t great but we moved the ball offensively on everyone but Hampton.
