  1. Some very good teams out of state, especially the Har-Ber team out of Arkansas (2008 Hoover Select 7 on 7 National Champions). Ravenwood got smacked by Har-Ber but did finish 5-1 in pool play on Friday. Talked to couple of Har-Ber parents about dead period. Their dead period is two weeks after school is out. Otherwise, it's conditioning, football camps, and 7 on 7 play in June and July. I told them about the TSSAA 2008 rules that killed any 7 on 7 play in June. They kind of look at Tennessee as some kind of backwards state when it comes to football which puts the athletes at disadvantage as compared to surrounding states. I couldn't disagree with them on the point.
  2. No admission charge. See attached Vandy Map Park in Lot 2 and cross the street to the football practice area (behind stadium. There is two football practice fields. Vandy uses the Rob Roy Rugby Fields on the top of the hill and to the left and the Soccer complex. Take chair, cooler, and snacks and enjoy the entertainment of all teams completing. This is the best of all the 7-7 in the area. It just gets bigger and better each year. It will run to about 8 or 9 tonight and start back up on Saturday morning.
  3. It was against the B team that went on to finish 4-2.
  4. You can't forget about DaRon Jenkins. The last game that I saw DaRon play for the Titans was during Bruce Mathews last game @ LP Field. It was a miserable cold rainy game with nothing to cheer about as the Titans were closing out a dud season. The highlight of the game was DaRon and Perry Phoenix slugging it out for a spot on the bench with Jeff Fisher coming over to break it up melee. That was the first, last, and only time Jeff Fisher had to break up a bench brawl.
  5. Capt. Jason Reinbold (Metro PD) is the OC & AT Owens is the DC. Jason has been coaching on offense since the school open. AT has been on board since since 2006 after 13 years in college. Coach Shuman brought in Rocky Calmus (LB's) & DaRon Jenkins (Corners) as assistants in the spring to add to his current staff on Defense. The Defense will be in different alignment scheme than past.
  6. What was Kiffin first strike to strike again or as related to this injuries?
  7. Ravenwood @ 7-7...MTSU, Western Kentucky, and Vanderbilt Vandy is the best for competitive teams and will probably only bring on team instead of two because the second team got shafted last year on scheduling and didn't get to play as many competition games...no use wasting the money if the 2nd team is not getting it's allotment of games.
  8. Your are right about making the playoff is what it use to be and nothing to crow about. The positives outweigh the negatives for extending the team. THE POSITIVES: 1) Extra income is helping the schools in the playoffs 2) Extending the season surely doesn't hurt and football talk heats up, especially on CoachT which is good except for the obnoxious crowing...the non obnoxious crowing is OK and is acceptable part of football lord 3) TSSAA is making few extra dollars on 1/2 off gate receipts which helps other non-football TSSAA low revenue athletic events 4) It great playing football in the cooler weather of November with Hot Apple Cider, Hot Cocoa, and Coffee being served in the Concession stand and you get a chance to bundle up close to a love one. 5) Give the athletes better exposure for scholarship and by all means, players in Tennessee need all the exposure they can get to complete with the other states. 6) You never know which team may get hot toward the end of the season with possible upsets and making a run deep into the playoff's 7) School Spirit, pep rally's, tailgating, and the enthusiasm surrounding the playoffs 8) What better way to spend Friday evening in November...is there something more fun and exciting to do than Friday Night Light's? 9) Playoff experience...you cannot discount how it may help for a team building for the following year 10) The band usually don't march during the playoff's /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" /> ...they are off and going to some type of band competition event. By this time, you've watched the same marching band on the field doing the same routine for ten games and you are sick of the same old routine. /blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blink.gif" /> They should march out the smaller drum corps for each team and let them go head to head for some fun, non-scripted play. I could get a little excited seeing this...just a little...not much. THE NEGATIVES: 1) Risk of being knock off by a lower seed
  9. Congratulations to Summertown on the Class A Championship and the four seniors making the graduation ceremony the day before. These are such good stories of the Summertown team as read in the Tennessean & Columbia Daily Herald. These stories are what boys dreams about, becoming great memories for lifetime.
  10. I know it but 2P left himself open and I couldn't resist throwing the hook out there to see if I could get a fish on. You never know until make the cast. If we could all be as honest and forthright as the Oakland folks, it would be a perfect world...somewhere.
  11. The money must be plentiful over at Oakland to be buying automobiles for the folk's. I would have thought that it would have been better put to use on the program, facilities, and helping the unfortunate supplement the cost of equipment.
  12. It only takes one rat to bring the house of cards down. It only takes one parent getting mad at the coach for not playing his son/daughter to put the program in jeopardy. What idiot coach would do a silly thing?
  13. Due to the Tennessee School Financial Accountability Act of 2008 for Boosters and the additional items tacked on by Williamson County Schools, one of the new rules is Booster clubs cannot pay coaches any additional stipend over their base pay as an coach or assistant coaches (Unless it is a camp and they coaches can only get up to 50% of the take). If you have been wondering why about the movement of coaches, this has been top on the charts of late. Of course, I cannot say if other counties are enforcing the new rules or not. Williamson County Schools attorney told me as much and several of the state auditors live in Williamson County. They love to do nothing else and audit locally until they get a sniff of some other school system and comments about paying coaches by boosters clubs. At that point, look for them doing an audit of your local county school board while the high school, and booster clubs goes into a tizzy getting their records audited as well. If it is bad enough, the IRS gets called in. The IRS hands out fines and the Tax Exempt status 501 ©(3) is up for possibility of being voided. Read up on the situation up in Kentucky after the IRS got the sniff of non-compliance activity by Booster Clubs. Audits trouble Bryan Station High School boosters
  14. All the games are played on the same Saturday starting at 1PM, 4PM, and 7PM which would allow fans time to travel regardless of grand divisions of the state. Each area and news/sports media in the area would be promoting the games more since the games would be local to the area which would mean more money into the state coffers because of better turnout, especially since the games wouldn't be played on Friday. It would make DII happy if they could get their games broadcast with more interest than in the past. The TSSAA could promote the High School Playoff Saturday Ticket on Cable/Satellite for additional income if they make it affordable. You make more money by ten homes paying $15 than one home paying $45. It's called marketing which the TSSAA don't seem to understand at all. Let say 20,000 homes signed up for the Saturday HS Football championship ticket at $15 ea. This would be $300,000 versus 3000 homes signing up for $45 @ $135,000...over twice the revenue. I would suggest lowering the actual game ticket to $10 because the revenue dollars work the same??¦lower price, more people, more revenue versus higher price, less people, less revenue.
  15. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" /> I agree since the middle Grand Division of Tennesse is actually the most populous (Yes, it is a factual per Tennessee Government populist stats) and therefore the one which provides the most opportunity to get backsides in seats and revenue in the coffers. Besides, it easier to get in and out, much more and better parking, and the nightlife entertainment. I wouldn't mind it in a smaller venue like Tennessee Tech. Besides, with the football dominance of the Middle Grand Division of Tennessee in the top tiers it only makes sense. TSSAA could split the classes to give each area a piece of the pie. Division I classes (1A through 3A) in East Tennessee, classes (4A through 6A) in Middle Tennessee, and the Division II in Memphis, then rotate it every year.
  16. Off subject but a little humor never hurts
  17. So you saying the official policy #6.204 in the attached link on the Rutherford County school board website that was issued on 1/15/09 is wrong and hasn't been really update for seven years? http://www.tsba.net/production/detail.asp?...6&iBoard=74
  18. Rutherford County Board of Education says the following: "The children of teachers employed by the Board of Education, that reside outside of Rutherford County, may attend Rutherford County schools, subject to the following conditions: 2. The non-resident teacher that elects to have his/her child(ren) attend school in Rutherford County shall pay an annual tuition. The tuition charged shall not exceed per pupil, per annum, an amount equal to the amount of funds actually raised and used for school purposes by the county, divided by the number of pupils in average daily attendance in the county schools during the preceding school year."
  19. Let's put it this way; RA went through two interviews. He was semifinalist in the last interview but no formal application for head coach was applied but granted the chance to interview as a parent of kids at Ravenwood. It's like asking someone to come for interview without applying for the job to see if they are interested. Therefore, RA didn't apply and he is free and clear of any contract issues. You have to feel sorry for RA. He would have to pay steep out of county tuition to get his son enrolled at Riverdale yet he won't get to see his son play a down of football at Ravenwood while coaching at Riverdale. It doesn't sound like the ideal family life to me as a father and it probably hurts him very deep to be missing his son growing up. I would advise showing of a little compassion.
  20. This situation should help Riverdale. RA will have a "bur under his saddle" to prove the Wing-T can win championships in 6A ball. I wish RA all the best to prove the WingT can win it all at Riverdale but at Ravenwood, that dog want hunt due to the Spread action game addiction. It would have been one bitter pill to swallow despite RA being terrific coach.
  21. Congrats to Tom Shuman /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  22. What is the disappointment besides Blades not sticking it out at Hillsboro? By all accounts on Blades job seeking, it looks as if Blades ultimate goal is to move on beyond high school ranks with Oak Ridge being a temporally stopover. He may be a good college coach when he makes the move up...time will tell. For right now, his goal is to pester Farragut, DB, Ooltewah, Science Hill, Bearden, WB, Maryville, and others for the East side of the state. I wish him and Oak Ridge all the best in their endeavors for competitive level of football and maybe it will bring the community back together in Oak Ridge.
  23. Joe Pa is getting kind of old to coach football at the high school level. /biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />
  24. BBT's comments are his own that are made because he may or may not agree with who will be the next coach. Each one has their own opinion who they wish to be coach. As you mention TC & Becker and like most kids who go through any program, they would like come back and stand on the sidelines and talk to coaches they know and shared life long experiences as an teammate. That doesn't make it right or wrong decision, it just what they know. I think Ravenwood is very lucky to get all great qualified candidates to apply for the position and could not go wrong with any of the ones who applied. When it comes down to deciding the coach, the principle is the person to make the decision because her job is on the line to make the correct one or the parents and student body will turn against the principle. In this case with Pan Vaden, she has to be smart of what is best for these kids, listening to advice offered from knowledgeable people associated within and outside the program as any smart business executive would do. Refresher class in communications would be appropriate about this time. One thing I know about winning championships. It takes the entire body of school administrators, coaches, athletes, students, parents, and supporters believing and working in harmony for the best of the program. Personal agendas, second guessing, bickering, and back biting of school administration, coaches, athletes, students, parents, and supporters will only result in disharmony, dissension, and failure. Whatever the result, the new Head Coach will have my support, regardless of my personal opinion or agenda.
  25. That seems very correct. The principal will probably go into a written agreement with the new coach as to make sure he follows her guidelines to undo the powerful establishment Rector had in place to support the team. It is a power thing.
