Just about every game in this region has huge implications, but I too think that the Oneida/Coalfield matchup could ultimately determine the #1 seed.

There are several question spots, I think, for Oneida. One is at quarterback. How well will Lambert fit into the system? I think he is obviously going to be the starter; I hear that Brad Christiansen will spend some time at wideout, so that sorta confirms that. And wide receiver is the second question mark. The WR corps is completely new and inexperienced this year. At runningback, Bobby Simon showed in his sophomore year, while filling in for the injured Rhyne Douglas, that he has a lot of potential. He slacked off a bit his junior season. If he comes back strong this year, he has the potential to be one of the best tailbacks in this region. The offensive line/defensive line lost some, but there's enough returning experience there that they should be fine. Oneida won't have a Bo Kidd-caliber player this year, IMO, but one player doesn't make the team. Any time you put Cameron Spradlin and Jonathan Lewallen together at linebacker, it doesn't matter who else you throw in there, you're going to have one of the best groups of LBs in the region. The secondary was emptied by graduation and there are some huge holes to fill. That's the biggest question mark, in my opinion, behind the receiving corps.

I see this region coming down to a two-way battle between Oneida and Coalfield, with Midway and Greenback trailing closely behind and waiting for either to slip up.

Top to bottom, there will be little separation between the top seed in this region this year and the #4 seed (and Region 2 will sweep Region 1 again in the playoffs), so it ought to be a heckuva fun season.

Don't expect a sweep of region 1 this season, Hampton will be a solid team and Cloudland should be improved .

Same story every year. Region 1 is much improved, was it Unaka last year that was ranked in the top 5 in the state? I'm pretty sure region one was "LOADED" last year too, pretty sure no one made it out of the first round. Hampton dropping down should do ok. They ran into Oneida in '93 and '94 when Hampton was supposedly "loaded". Oneida ended Hampton's season big both times.

Only way to tell who's got it and who don't it to strap'em on and get to buisness friday nights!
