emitreccossti Posted May 30, 2005 Report Share Posted May 30, 2005 there were 8 worthy teams that earned their way to the state this year....brentwood earned the title. dont be surprised if the field of 8 looks similar next year.....the big difference is that brentwood will be wearing the big target on their backs. hendersonville will be there....farragut and bearden will be there and better....mcminn has the talent returning to make it to the dance....im not sure how hard graduation will hit blackman, houston and germantown but i will assume that they will also be in the hunt next may. congrats to brentwood and all of the state teams and looking forward to another great year of tennessee soccer in 2006. For some of you to say a red card doesnt change things means you know nothing about the game. Brentwood won on penalties, that does not make them the better team. hville would have tacked on a few more if it werent for the send off, and would have taken this final easily.Hendersonville played Brentwood straight up 10 v 11 and had probably more dangerous chances to score. But when you play down 1 player, you have to pick your spots and cant send as many players forward. A man up is a huge advantage, and no, I didnt think the red was warranted. The referee did not have a good game. There were some bad calls on his part, the red card, gave lots of yellow cards for dissent, he would call a foul and not let advantage play out several times in the attacking third. You're right that red cards do change games. It's also true that the red card was a pretty harsh call. But the one thing that you, and the rest of the Hendersonville fans, have failed to mention is the penalty kick in the first half. It was an obvious flop and the ref even admitted to one of our players that it was a dive, but nobody brings this incident up. If that penalty kick hadn't been called then the score at the end of regulation would have been 3-2. I think that changes things entirely also. With the way everyone has been posting on these boards, someone that wasn't at the games would think that the refs were running around wearing Brentwood soccer shirts. I was playing in the game and the ref was an idiot. The red card was a little extreme but the hendersonville player with both arms up plowed throught the brentwood player. Most of the teams at the state tourney are very evenly matched. Any given day the outcome could have been different. The ref had horrible calls going both ways. He even admitted to me on the field that the pk awarded to hville was a dive. "It was a dive after the foul"???? Brentwood took control of most of the game after the card but couldn't put it away. Hendersonville is a very good team tho so of course they are gonna make a few chances for themselves to score. We had a very good season. Only losing 2 games 1-2 to father ryan(Class AA state champs) in the last few minutes of play and to hville 0-1 in the regular season without daniel kelly. Hendersonville was definatly the best team we have played this year. But congrats yto b'wood especially sicne none picked them to win. Tyler O. scored 3 goals but was only given 2 because the refs couldn't see the ball go over the line after it hit the crossbar. Brentwood is by far the best team and if the refs were good the score should of been BHS-4 HHS-2. Even playing a man down did not give Brentwood a better chance to score, because they were still playing the same defense they were all game they just had 1 foward instead of 2 who was shut down the whole game. I might not know alot about soccer but i will be getting a state championship ring pretty soon. And no Kelly was not doubled he was guarded by one player and yes he was shut down. Did I mention a starting defensive player was not able to play because of an illness, and the person who guarded Kelly was a starting foward. I have never read such crybaby b.s. this whole season for any sport. Most teams felt bad they lost the championship game, but still conceded the victory. Apparently the Commandoes don't quite get how this is done. Maybe this is how your processing the events on Saturday and your dissappointment. What is clear that is happening is that you are losing whatever good will or respect your team generated. Call it an upset if it makes you feel better, but that won't change the result. If you were truly THE TEAM, you would have overcome any and ALL obstacles and claimed victory. But I guess you can't claim that title, because only one team DID overcome all the obstacles, and the calls, and closed the deal: THE State Champions . You got beat. Period. End of Paragraph. Deal with it. Move on. It is getting real boring listening to your endless rationalizations.
