You guys had better watch out for McMinn Central, The incoming Freshman have all been on the McMinn Fire AAu basketball team for the last 5 years. They competed in tournaments all over the state and most of them were in an age division 1 to 2 years older than the starters on the team.. They won almost all of these tourneys and are considered the best in this state. Kylie Lambert will most likely start as a Freshman and will soon be named as Miss Tennessee Basketball in the next 4 years. I predict that McMinn Central will be in the state tournament this year and will win it next year. GO CHARGERETTES!!

So basically you're picking them to win three straight titles, beginning as sophomores? Freshmen don't need that kind of pressure before they even step on a high school court. And I didn't see them win the 9th and 10th grade tournament at the camp I attended, even though it was close.

yea they dont mean a thing...sequoyah had a very bad year last year but the have been kicking their own butts to get better everyday...to not have to go through that embarassment again! We work hard and we are really young...we have 2 seniors and a whole bunch of talented freshmen! We have a dedicated coach...so be ready the chiefs might be ready to bring it!

I'll agree with Sequatchie being better. They are going to be alot better team this year and the freshmen are going to play a big part in that. They looked really good this summer, and with the coach that they have I can only see them getting better and better.

I partly agree with Cami's mom. The in coming freshmen will be making an impact quickly by adding some real depth to the bench and I can see a possiblility of three freshmen ending up on the starting team, two likely, and one for sure. The likelyhood of them winning state next year is not to great in my book. Next years team will still be green, and state tourn. is alot of pressure even for seniors. Remember the folding of central a couple of years ago. I'm not saying they can't, but it is going to be asking alot for three senior, one junior and seven sophomores to accomplish.

For the guy that thinks that it's alot of pressure on the girls, I will tell you this. I have watched these girls play for the past 4-5 years, and not once have I seen what I thought to be the start of a melt-down or burnout. These girls live to compete. They are a group of tough young ladies that want to win.

One correction......The McMinn Fire team DOES NOT play AAU....plays everything but AAU.......It is a very good recruit......I mean freshman class.......Wouldn't count the champion banner there just yet, though, because there should already be a couple hanging there.....and there AIN'T

If you can watch an 8th grade girl play and know how she will do in high school ball, you are worth your weight in gold.

You are right that McMinn Fire has not played AAU. The reason is the money that is needed to sign a team up. AAU is a good organization, but not the only one. McMinn Fire is not a recruiting source. If so, there are some folks that should be working at some major universities picking tallent, because these young ladies have been playing together since they were 9 and 10 yrs old. Except for one or two young ladies, they are all from McMinn County. In the last couple of yrs they have only lost one tourn and that was playing up two years and they still won second, and lost a close game at that. I'm not saying that they are the best this state has ever seen, nor that they have the best player that Central has ever seen, but it is the best class as a whole that I can remember in watching McMinn Central in the last 25 yrs, and I'm willing to bet they are the best class Central has ever had. Follow that up with a very good group of 8th graders coming up next year and it will be a tough team coming on.

I'm sure you believe that, but you can't possibly know that. They don't all mature the way you hope they will. Some stop growing, some get out of shape, and some chase other things. It's just too early to put all that pressure on girls that age.

They will have to be pretty good to top the class from a couple of years ago.

There are two players that can be better, maybe three. But more then that, this class goes 7 deep. Not 3 that was there a couple of years ago. The class as a whole is better, I'm convinced. And our high expectations at McMinn Central does not come from one "SUPER STAR", but from something that we didn't have a couple of years ago, that is depth. Yes, one or two may not get any better, they may even quit all together, but that will not happen to this class as a whole. Add to that 5 strong players coming in next year, and even with some players falling out. I believe that they will represent McMinn Central honorably in the manner that the school and community has come to expect. High hopes? YOU BET! B)

    • Deja vu all over again, 7 yrs apart. SMDH Does anybody talk to each other?
    • OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.
    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
