Franklin vs. Centennial this Wednesday night

I won't make a prediction, but this should be an outstanding game. Both teams are very strong and the result has a major impact on District tournament seeding. I think this district is the toughest in the State at the top. When you have Frankling, Centennial, Brentwood at the top with Ravenwood eventually making an impact and Independence eventually making an impact also( they may be a few years away). Advancing out of this District is very difficult and being the number 1 seed going into the tournament is huge. So the regular season games between Franklin, Centennial and Brentwood are very important. Last year I think these 2 teams tied in regular season, Brentwood beat them both. So Brentwood was #1 seed, Centennial and Franklin were 2 and 3 (don't remember which order). So Franklin and Centennial played in the District semi-final and had to fo to PKs to determine who advanced.

Centennial wins 2-1. Jenna Acton scores with about 20 seconds left in regulation(not including stoppage time).

 

It was 1-0 at half after Centennial put a header from a corner kick in. Franklin's goal was a freak goal where the Franklin player popped the ball up from 30 yards back and the goalie and defender had no communication. The ball popped over the goalie's head and went in and it was 1-1.

 

Acton then shot from 20 yards out and nailed a sweet goal past Taryn Holland.

 

 

Go Centennial! You did it!

Great win by Centennial! As anticipated, they are much better than their rating. They have tremendous offensive punch as they have four players in the midfield and upfront that are all capable of scoring. They are definitely one of the top three public school teams in the state.

 

Franklin has nothing to be ashamed of as they played hard throughout the game. The bad news is they continue to struggle finishing and scoring, which puts a lot of pressure on Franklin's defense and GK. The Franklin keeper had no chance to stop either goal scored by Centennial as they were hard, clean shots. The good news is that Franklin is having to play a number of young players due to injuries. The game experience gained by these players coupled with the return of those players injured should allow Franklin to be that much stronger come tournament time. That is when the games will really count.

 

The last two games Franklin has played two of the top teams in the state in Father Ryan and Centennial. The schedule does not get any easier with #1 Brentwood on the horizon next Tuesday.

      OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.

      They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.

      The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.

      I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
