Very True you have to take strength into account. I do not really expect Carter to get most of his of points against Temple right there in the paint at point blank range. Temples help d is very good and Smith will be very very physical with Carter. But what makes Carter differant than any other 6'10 guy is his ability to shoot. I think he will get his points from the 10-15 foot range where he can shoot over smith and just rebound under the basket unless Temple doesnt help the he should have a field day under the basket. What are the chances of then putting Seth on Carter and Josh on Dilts?

I could be totally off, but maybe even switching Skogen to Van Horn. I mean he may not be as fast as Caleb, but I think he may stay with Van Horn. I'm sure Van Horn may be a little faster.I haven't seen Van Horn play for a year.

Don't forget Joey Skogen. I don't mean he will guard Van Horn, but that little kid is tough. Everyone has seen what he can do on the football field. Plus, last year, he drove right down the middle of the paint. He is not afraid to take it to anyone. It's like he think's he's 6'4". Although he won't be the main player, I think him having that mentality will help Temple. He has a big heart. If his dad told him to go against anyone, I believe Joseph would. Even though he isn't the best and he can't take everyone, I think he'd be willing to.

I dont see Seth on Nick. Or Nick on Seth. Asking your best player to do to much and dont want them to get into foul trouble. I dont think Seth is quick enough to guard Nick outside, and I dont think Nick is strong enough to guard seth inside. Parshall didnt have much of a problem getting past Seth last year and Nick is much quicker than Johnny. Just go back and think of the Battles Caleb and Nick had two years ago. they were incredable. Nick was on the same leval of quickness as Caleb. these games are going to be great

he prob guarded Caleb better in practice than anyone (other than maybe Sean) Thats pretty good being a fresh against a Mr. Bball candidate. I mean by no means did he shut Caleb down , but he could stay in front of him and defended him well. He'll def. add to what the team has.

Just an observation from a neverwas bball player. But i will def. enjoy watching our team this year. Go Temple!!!

How did Nick do up North? Has he improved? Did he play? Or did he take time off? Any info?

He did fine up north. He has gotten alot stronger. The school and level of ball he played but alot more athletic. So he got use to playing at a much faster pace. But when you play with people that are super athletic they ussally lack in pure basketball skill. He is jumping alot better than his sophmore year and his shot is still good and getting better. He still hits the glass and plays with the same intensity as he did when he was a sophmore. He just has to stay out of foul trouble.

it doesn't matter how much experience Smith has in any tournaments, to think he would stop someone who is 9 inches taller than him is laughable. Unless McMasters is terrible with his back to the basket he will destroy Smith. All he has to do is drop step to the rim and if Smith bumps him the refs will call a foul and he will be on the bench.

Then on defense McMasters will just front Smith and they won't be able to get the ball around his length -- not that they will be trying to get the ball to him anyway on offense anyways.

arguement settled by someone who doesn't care anything about grace/temple.

Why we're even talking about this is beyond me.

All of these things are yet to be seen.

Why don't we just wait until the season begins before we start passing judgment on who is better than who. All that is happening now is just pure speculation.

Nick is a very good player, maybe district player of the year, and with him back, Grace is the team to beat, no doubt, so please understand what I am about to say. Nick is no where even close to as quick as Caleb that is an absurd comparison. He had ONE good game offensively against Caleb. Ask Grace's coach about that comparison and he will tell you that as much as he loves Nick, it is no comparison. Matthias said that Caleb was unguardable. Caleb has other man speed and quickness, Nick does not.

A respected coach in the region has said Nick is Caleb on year behind. You havent seen Nick in a year. I dont think Nick is as quick as Caleb but i think there on the same level. Caleb is alittle quicker Nick has a little better shot. And what was the differance between the Grace Temple games last year? Nick V H.

But all of this really doesnt matter these two arent playing against each other.

Temple played against DCA in the first round and won back when they won the state title for the first time. DCA had a player who was 7'0". Temple stopped him. Temple beat a team from Virginia last year. All starters on that team were over 6'1". During the first State Tourn. they won Temple's Jeron Williams took a charge against that huge guy from Ezell. I forget his name...

so in conclusion, having height doesn't mean everything. It means a lot though.

Oh and Isaiah Mouw wasn't tall or big. He was skiny and slow and yet he was an amazing rebounder. So was his younger brother Zach and his older brother Jeremy.

i hope you know that when grace and temple play, jeron williams, jake skogen, ryan wadley and isiah mouw aren't going to be walking on that court.

    • A complete cultural change happened at Greeneville and the administration and community opened up their checkbooks.  What a lot of people don't know is Ballard was Zeller's OC for many years and stopped coaching for two years because Zeller and Ballard didn't see eye to eye on some things.  Zeller lead Greeneville to it's first ever Semi Final appearance in 2000 and lost 28-12 at Maryville and had them in the Quarter Finals in 2002 and 2003.  Z was a great coach but lost some control when it came to making workouts mandatory. (He learned from that Mistake and it was at LC when i coached with him.).  Z was let go going into my Senior Year and was replaced by Steve McCurry who was the one that turned the program around.  Steve had won a 4a state championship at AC Reynolds in Asheville and made the administration completely redo the weight room with new equipment, had a football period at the end of the school day to lift, started devil camp, and brought in coaches like Danny Bentley (Still the OL coach), Ballard as the OC, Cody Baugh (QB coach and still there), and even Spradlen who is Greeneville's head coach now as the DB's Coach.  McCurry only coached for two seasons at Greeneville and took a team that had a losing record the year before and finished my Senior Year making it to the Quarters and having a 10-3 record and then followed it up with a Semi Final appearance the next year with an 11-3 record and back to back conference championships.  Loved McCurry to death but the recession hit and the story i heard was he was still buying new equipment for the team that the Principal didn't authorize and his response was "I don't answer to you and only to Niswonger and Bewley" (Two huge donors).  That was it for him and they Promoted Ballard shortly after that.   Greeneville had always been relevant ever since the the late 70's under Coach Fred Sorrell's.  Since Sorrell's took over in 1977 Greeneville overall winning percentage is over 76%.  The biggest reason people might not have thought Greeneville was "Good" until Ballard was Greeneville always played up Classification wise and could never get over the hump. (When there were 3 classifications we played 3a, when it went to 5 we played 4a).  Greeneville is the largest its ever been with 953 students and where playing teams 2 or 3 times there size back in the day (I had a little over 800 kids in the school when i graduated in 2008).  Other teams always would know they would be sore after a game but depth took over and never won a Championship until Greeneville played in the classification the TSSAA actually assigned them. You had names like Dustin Moore (1993 Mr Football for 3a and who Phillip Fulmer said was one of the greatest athletes he ever recruited), James "Mud Turtle" Mayes, Brigham Lyons, Byron Gillespie, Frankie Debusk (National Champion Qb at Furman with GQ), Jasmine Lowery, Cody Baugh, The Greenway Brothers, Joe Watson (Furman), etc.  Now the cultural is from the Pee Wee league up and you grow up as a young kid wanting to wear the Greene and White.  Here is a really good link when it comes to anything Greeneville Football related. https://greenevillefootball.com/   I also don't coach anymore.  Z told me i was to smart with how the school systems are ran these days and ended up going into real estate in Knoxville which has been a great decision for my life.
    • Yes, they will. I'm wondering what kinds of strides Sale Creek will make heading into the second season under Coach Fitz.
    • No yellow stripes on the rug last night. Biggest crowd I’ve seen at 825 since the alco debacle.
    • I know most Pirate starters were seniors last year. Im not sure how accurate it is but someone said we only have 3 seniors. That Prep team will probably make some noise this coming season too.
