Spencer Manley became Navy's starter at 141 over the weekend by beating out freshman, Ricky Tippett, in the wrestle-off finals. The final score was 3-1 with Manley getting the lone takedown of the match. With Navy's schedule, Manley will probably wrestle about 40 matches with 3-8 of those being against nationally ranked opponents. If he stays healthy he should have a very good year.

Didn't Patrick Simpson wrestle at 141 for Army last season ? Anyone know what weight he is going this year ? Army and Navy wrestle on February 18, 2006. Any chance we could see a Simpson-Manley matchup? That would certainly produce some interesting posts on this site.

Yes I do believe 141 was Patrick's weight last year and from the articles I have read so far this season that is where he is projecting again.

Great pickup on that match BuckLateral. The thought hadn't even crossed my mind, should certainly be an interesting weight.

Also of note is that Jordon Leen is expected to be at this weight again for Cornell. He would see Patrick during the EIWA's more than likely if nto at another time during the year. Matter of fact, I think it was Patrick that hadn't Jordan his only lose in that tournament last year. Jordan finished in 3rd and I think Patrick in fifth.

This could be a very interesting weight for TN wrestling fans to watch...

You're right!! What Weight will Nick Marable be at Mizzu this season. Will he make varsity, red shirt or what?

Haven't had a chance to talk to Nick's dad recently but all accounts I have heard are Nick at 157 or 165. Nick should be redshirting this year but you never can tell. This was the last I had heard and certainly is not gospel but Nick will never see anything under 157 let alone 141 like Manley, Leen, and Simpson if that is what you are inferring.

A simple visit to the USMA website reveals that Patrick Simpson is listed at 149 pounds this year on the roster. I dont know who projected that he would remain at 141, but it appears that they are misinformed. No TN matchup at 141 again this year at EIWA's.

Hmm, I think the move up could be good for Patrick but who will be filling in at 141 for Army? The last team preview I read (found it somewhere on themat.com) had him going at 141 but 149 is no surprise now that Phillip is out. Should be an interesting line-up for Army this year with so many TN boys on the roster.

And we do still have the possibilty of a Leen - Manley match-up this year at least. Matter of fact, I think they met last year during the Souther Scuffle with Leen coming out on top score somewhere near 3-1 but I could be off on that one.

Either way I am glad to see Spencer getting into the starting line-up at Navy. Best of luck to him. Let's hope he is able to stay healthy and have a great season.

Congratulations Spencer, way to do us all proud. Navy is one of the top acadmic progams in the country and wrestling on top of that makes it even more prestigious. Looking to see Spencer have a great year. Possibly wrestling Jordan Leen at Cornell.

SBA, where did you get your information on Simpson wrestling 141? Everything you have said about this family has been incorrect. My suggestion would be to see the Simpson kid in Memphis.

If the Simpson family is reading this, send somebody down to Chattanooga so we can keep up with them. It is great to read about all of our boys and what they are doing without somebody trying to give an opinion who has proven to be so wrong so many times.

    • And can you tell me who those two quarterbacks were, and every kid that was put into college from Bearden is a Bearden kid? It’s kind of why they graduated from Bearden.   and I would definitely not consider ETSU “waste”…
    • Most of this is complete gibberish. But the one part I could decipher is putting kids in college. This coaching staff hasn’t put a single Bearden kid in college. They completed wasted one of the best WRs in East TN and have ruined two talented QBs. All because they’re in over their heads.
    • Well, I’d hope the new coaching staff thinks they are all that because they can always walk around the school, anytime they want, thinking that, especially for what they’ve done for the student athletes and the players, putting more kids in college in his first season than the old coaching staff did in numerous years combined, but we will just sweep over that because I know you don’t like facts. But trust me, nobody wanted Mr. Big britches, made the star player switch to quarterback, which is ultimately the reason he ended up transferring to play the position. He loved, but unfortunately, had to be at another school because Mr. Big Britches doesn’t like when a teenager knows more than him, but can’t expect much coming from a guy who used all class throwing pencils up into the ceiling and making fun of football kids who were failing class right to their face, and in front of numerous students, even projecting on the board most of the time.
    • After that first paragraph, I can see why you’re a TA and not a teacher. Have you made the move from South Knoxville to Bearden yet?    Maybe he left because he is an actual teacher and coach, and didn’t want to be associated with a group of foul mouthed middle school coaches who like to pretend they’re big time.
    • Yeah and the coach is gone. Whole bizarre situation here. We played them a couple of times at MTSU last few years. She was a player for sure.
