I agree with you drewcephus, everyone hop on that pep bus and make the trip to Orange Mound. A large crowd of familiar faces would be great for the player.

Henry county can beat this melrose team they are very strong against the run and unless their qb can get the ball off quick then they can cover the pass. Everyone just come out and support your patriots loud and proud and we WILL to make you proud.

O.K. Henry County fans, you can see that we need to go down there in huge numbers and go early! We can't have obnoxious Melrose fans intermingling and distracting us from making noise for the Big Red! So show your RealRedPride and support your Patriots in one of the biggest games of Henry County football history!!!

Ummm.......Obnoxious - Highly offensive, deserving of censure, odiously or disgustingly objectionable. exposed to something unpleasant or harmful. That's scary!

Come on down and enjoy the game. Our defense is more disruptive than the fans. Our rep as fans is growing faster than the fish that the fisherman claimed broke his reel!

omw....I didn`t mean to suggest all Melorose fans were obnoxious, but I do know last year when I was there, I saw plenty of folks consuming adult beverages at the game. At the bridges classic this year I witnessed one melrose fan slide about 6 rows face first down the aisle at the Liberty Bowl when he couldn`t walk out of the stadium unassisted. I also could smell the aroma of the whacky weed in the air last year.I even commented last year that I wondered why Melrose didn`t try to get law enforcement to be a little more proactive in escorting these folks out to send a message that this was inappropriate for a hs game. But it seems the cops won`t come up into the stands unless something were to start up in the stands. But I`d say obnoxious would describe sveral fans atthe melrose game. When fans turn their attention to taunting fans of the other team, that gets a little bit tiring. But let me add that folks shouldn`t let the actions of a few represent the many many good fans there. I had an overall great time there last year. I just don`t like to listen to drunks in general and at a hs school game in particular.

B) Good post omw! But yes, I am hearing mixed results. Some say they get a little rowdy, some say one of the more welcoming and nice crowds. Either way, we will be there and in good numbers. Most of us are no strangers to rowdy fans. Heck, I bet 90% of our crowd has attended a Tenneessee game in Knoxville. Those guys get drunk and rowdy!!!

We are working hard to prepare for the disruptive defense. I think our guys are up to the task. Can't wait til Friday!!!

On to the game...

Earlier in the year, Melrose was having a difficult time on the offensive side of the ball with the passing game. Several quarterbacks were used in combination with replacing a number of O lineman lost off last year's team. Teams were loading up the box and taking their chances with the pass. This was very evident in the Christian Brother's loss and other early games on the schedule.

As stated by TraderB earlier in this thread, we have become a much more balanced team offensively. If this trend continues, Melrose will pose a difficult win in the playoffs......especially at home.

The defense is as good as advertised. They fly to the ball and take care of business when they get there. The defense has with few exceptions the same players that held opponents to a state leading low number of points allowed last year. The point total allowed this year is comparable to last year.

So with that being said, I look for a good game as region 7 has historically fielded good competition against region 8. Good luck and come on down to "Da Mound" and enjoy the game.

Hey, OMW! I have no sense of direction at all. I get lost going to the mailbox sometimes, but I can't take the bus. Can you give me good directions right to the stadium, including parking? If it helps you to know how much help and landmarks I need, I had to stop four times and ask for help to get to the Rock (and I had even been there before). Look forward to meeting a school that supports its team. Henry Co. hasn't seen many of their opponents being supported this year. These kids work hard and deserve our support. You have a great team, but we plan to give it all we've got.

I'm skeptical about Ridgeway because-- I believe that its undefeated record is a FRAUD!

RHS' undefeated (1 tie) record is more a function of playing a bunch of cream-puffs, IMO, rather than the evidence of a vastly improved (yeah, I'm very much aware of your new QB & RB) and superior football team. Let's be real here--Ridgeway played tougher competition when it was in 4A.

Look, I'm not saying that RHS is not a good team--I give it credit for taking care of business; I just think that RHS is gonna get exposed as a "pretender," instead of the true "contender" that any undefeated team would appear. Believe me, rhsplaya55, I hope I'm wrong! Heck, I'd love nothing more than to see RHS go all the way to a 5A State Title! Afterall, my daughter will be a freshman at RHS next year.

Anyway, rhsplaya55, please try not to take my comments personally. I'm just stating my opinion. As such, I believe that Ridgeway's patsy schedule has given it a false sense of dominance. It's difficult to gauge the TRUE extent of a teams improvement and superiority, when its opponents are subpar.

Consider these 2 examples as a cautionary note:

1) Last year's Tennessee High football team. They beat the pants off all its opponents, then got completely embarrassed by Maryville....

2) This year's Olive Branch Mississippi football team. They were putting up bassketball-like numbers, en route to its unbeaten record. They got completely embarrassed by S. Panola, while scoring only 3 pts...

Both the THS and OB football teams thought they had great teams, given their undefeated record. Yet, the truth was that they were not as good as they thought. They'd compiled great records by beating up on a bunch of cream-puffs.

In conclusion, until Ridgeway actually plays and beats a quality opponent, they're just pretenders.

Melrose is a dominant program, they have earned the reputation as being the team to beat in the west for 4A. Not taking anything away from their accomplishments, but I went and looked at Ridgeways schedule and I looked at Melrose's Schedule, the same that you said about Ridgeway could be said about Melrose.

I have no idea about the team from Missouri, aside from that I see 2 teams on their schedule with a winning record, Christian Brothers and East, Melrose lost one of those games. With wins over a 2-8 kingsbury, 3-7 Hamilton, 3-7 Raleigh Egypt, 5-5 Fairley, and 0-10 Northside in their last 5 games. That is 13-37 folks and dont think that the offensive balance you speak of will come so easily against a good opponent. I remember someone saying that Melrose has had an improved passing game of late, that leads me to believe that it was not real good early, well

early in the year there was East and Briarcrest andChristioan brothers on the schedule. Correlation I would say so.

Now you say that Ridgeway beat a bunch of cream puffs, what about Melrose, who did the beat other than East with a winning record?

I want to wish HC the best of luck. It'll be a hard battle for both 7-4A teams this week, but I think it's possible for both to pull it out. I'd love to see you guys back at the Rock next week!

As far as your trip to the Mound goes, VG is accurate with his descriptions. We had (3)fan buses, the band bus and numerous cars go down and we were still "covered and smothered" on the visitors' side. They'll tend to continually press in on your space. The "key rattling" was for the most part humorous, but I'll give it to them, they have a great enthusiastic crowd . They do line the fences 3-6 deep and will also line up behind your players and taunt them too. They even tried to get in the cheerleaders area to get closer to some of the players. This being said, HC also has some great fans and I think if you bring double your normal "air horns",shaker cans, etc., you'll be in good shape!

Again, GOOD LUCK & GO 7-4A!!!!
