rigger101
Last nights Farragut/Bearden playoff game was packed. I made the remark about the school making some good money off the gamee and was told by another parent tha TSSAA keeps it all. Is this true? The TSSAA gets 50% of the gate and then both schools involved will get 25% each.

Sweep Left
The TSSAA gets 50% of the gate and then both schools involved will get 25% each. They get 50% AFTER all expenses are paid!

muffin
They get 50% AFTER all expenses are paid! Which is way to much.
Moms4Baseball
Minor correction: TSSAA gets 50% after school expenses, but TSSAA handles payment of officials for playoff games, not the schools. And yes, that's still way too much!!

CoachT
The TSSAA gets what your schools vote for them to get, through their BOC members.
yellowdog
that is nuts...way way way to much... The membership fees TSSAA member schools pay to the association is much less than almost all other state associations. If they charged more in membership dues, they could take less as gate receipts in play-off games. It is a business decision. You also talk to people from other states and you'd find that the state championships the TSSAA puts on are better than in most other states. For example, ask a sports writer who covers the Georgia semi-finals that are held at the Georgia Dome - you'd be surprised at the answer. The TSSAA bashers will always be there - and there is nothing that can be done to change that attitude. But whether you like them or not, the TSSAA is run very well and the organization is not flush with money. And as coacht states -- it is the Board of Control (made up of high school principals elected by the school) that set the fees and makes the financial decisions -- if you don't like what is going on contact one of them and get it changed. The TSSAA just executes their wishes.
CHSpanther
The TSSAA pays for the schools catastrophic insurance out of this money. The schools voted on this back quite of a few years ago. The schools said this way would be cheaper than the schools paying for the insurance themselves. msgov
T$$AA receives 50% of each and every football playoff gate, off the top, not after expenses are paid. They pay for the officials and a singular plaque to every participating team in the playoffs that denotes what round you advanced to. The two schools receive 25% each and if they travel they can pay for their transportation from this money.
