Science Hill won the K.T. Feldspar Duals at Mitchell County. Ten duals over two days.

We wrestled Asheville High, Anson County, Madison, Chase, and Hopewell on Thursday.

We wrestled Robbinsville, Gibbs, Pigeon Forge and received a forfeit from Bishop-England SC in Friday's preliminaries.

We wrestled Charlotte Latin in the championship match. Started at 125. Grant, Goldstein, and Drish got us started with three pins, so we ran out to a 32-0 lead by 171. Seeing that there were forfeits coming at 112 and 119, the match was over before they got on the board. We pinned on out except for 103, making the final score 62-9.

They had five guys who are ranked in NC's independent schools. Two of them, the 215 and 275, are ranked first. Ethan and Ben pinned them both. Grant (125), Damien (145), and David (160) beat the other three.

It was an interesting two days. All the teams we wrestled had good wrestlers but they were all matched up against our good guys so we came out of it pretty well.

Unbeaten for the tournament were Brett Usary (112), Grant Mitchell (125), Bo Usary (135), Damien Buchanan (140), David Williamson (152), Ethan Henley (215), Ben Murray (275), Michael Goldstein (130), and Aushon Hale (145).

Fun tournament. Good time. It was held at an executive center so we were able to just walk from the motel to the wrestling. I think this will become a permanent addition to our schedule. And the hospitality room was very good as well.

Maybe Coach Shelton can give more detailed results later if anybody even cares.

Happy holidays to everybody.

I thought Andrew Cox wrestled 171 for you all. Sounds like your team did real well. Did you have some wrestlers missing?

Cox does wrestle 71, but he was sick so our JV guy who goes 152-171 (wherever he fits in) took his place and had a great tourny. Tittle, Nacos, Cox, and Boggus are all hurt or sick, and our 160, 215 and HVy also went to the RJR but didnt place. We finished 6th out of i believe 14 teams w/ only 8 guys so i we did pretty well. Bishop and Wheeler both only missed the finals by one point.

Well after what seemed like a very long two days, Greeneville returned from the Cherokee Wrestling Tournament in NC. Greeneville finished 2nd behind a team from Louisiana named St. Paul. They beat us by like 20 points or so. The team did excellent except the Greeneville/St. Paul match. Third place was Mitchel County from NC. King(103), Myers(119), Ricker(130),and Grecu(189) all went undefeated in the tournament. We wrestled 9 dual meets and went 8-1.

Beat Swain(NC), Smoky Mt.(NC), Madison County(GA), South Forsyth(GA), Mitchell County(NC), Robinsville(NC or GA???), Hayesville(NC or GA???), and Cherokee(NC). Lost to St. Paul(LA)

    • For perspective the county school I’m associated and graduated from only has 7,600 people in the entire county with a median age of roughly 47. That’s not very many 14-18 year olds to choose from. I think the football team had 25-28 kids or around there.  On the other hand Shelby County has 916,000+ with a median age of 36. This isn’t just about Shelby county, but all the big ones with huge economic advantages!  An urban/rural split would benefit tons of smaller schools that have to compete with county’s with 120x the amount of people. Especially the ones who can pick and choose their players from a pool like that!   I also agree with Pujo about charter and magnets and they will eventually be phased into the private divisions because it is obviously an advantage plus all the funding! Add that county schools can’t go recruit outside of their county like charters and magnets!
    • They should be starting next week and go from there.  They never do Spring Practice in April
    • It will be interesting to see if the Warren County School District allows this to go before a jury or they settle out of court before going to trial.  My guess is that this case never goes to trial.  If this goes before a jury, they could award even more than the $750K.  I was on a jury where they were asking for 185K and were awarded 1.2 million.  You never know what will happen in that jury room.
