They may have to up the anty to get him because of how they have handled it so far. You may be onto something.

Ole Dad

The problem is that the only way to "ante up" is for the booster club to come up with the extra money. It can't come through Knox County Schools payroll. There is a scale for teacher pay and coaching supplement. That isn't negotiable, from what i'm told. If the booster club is set up like it is at most Knox County Schools it would be a hard sell to be able to use booster money like that.

RD1 - i'm not "betting" anything on this one. From what I understand this particular candidate has given different people different answers to the same questionsI do know what he told somebody very close to me about the probability of Bo transferring.

This whole process at Bearden has been really strange. Nothing would surprise me at this point.

I know a Head Coach from East Tennessee that is a 20 year veteran, has "Coach of the Year" honors to his credit, and has been a coordinator at some well-known football schools(including one around knoxville) that interviewed once for the job and seemed to really be interested ,and probably still is, but was never contacted in any way about a second interview or any type of follow-up.

There seems to be some aura or secrecy to the hiring of this job. ( At least in the minds of those doing the hiring). Why would you not give someone that is obviuosly qualified for the job a look?

Something is fishy about this situation, and the players and program are suffering while administration seems to be chasing pipe dreams.

TVA - who would hire the man you are talking about. He has moved more times that exlax has tablets.

Now this came from a friend's father who is employed at Knox Co. Schools, and I quote, "if any outside organization wants to give monies to a teacher or coach or administrator, that money must go through the payroll system and be taxed just like your regular salary is taxed".

Now I know somebody is going to get on here and say they talked to their 2nd cousin's brother's uncle who is also their aunt, and they said you could not do it. Believe me this gentleman works at a pretty high up job with KCSS and I really thinks he knows!!!

Is he speaking for the KCSS rules? The IRS? Or just integrity? Because in any case...people don't always follow the rules. Do you think that every dollar and/or benefit from a booster that Phat Phil gets goes through the university? Neither does all the money or benefits coaches get. It could be in the form of a car...a house....a boat...or any of a hundred different ways. Don't get hung up and dollars...there are other incentives and resources to make up a pay difference.

ole dad,

My source is speaking for KCSS rules.

I think the T$$AA states all money must go through the school board to which you are employed. Now I am not naive enough to think that some underhanded stuff don't go on, I was simply saying if you wanted to do it ABOVE BOARD, all you had to do was send it to the payroll office.

Don't think the competition part of the younger Hardegree is an issue. I have often heard the only reason BO was signed is so they could sign a linebacker that got kicked off or something.

I have stated on other threads that I knew coaches had gotten money from booster clubs.

I've heard the older Hardegree is doing quite well although his fellow signee was kicked off, but I still believe if the younger is a successful quaterback, which I believe he is, this may be an issue coming into the situation of the starting qb.

The best Bo is going to do is to be the third string quarterback behind a rising junior and a redshirt freshman. He's not going to play at UT. If he wants to play he's going to have to transfer. If he's satisfied at being no better than third string the rest of his career and just playing out the string and finishing his education then he may very well stay at UT.

Red,

I wasn't really even going to the underhanded stuff. I was speaking on the fact that there are many ways to elevate compensation. Like I said...the easist is I give you a loaner car or boat or house....or travel perks like cruise tickets or cell phones or 100's of other gifts and loans...forgiven. I don't think the quarterback situation is a factor. If he becomes the coach he can play whomever he chooses.
