What starters is S.P. returning from last year i know that big WR robinson signed with tn tech. they had a preyy good O.L and a good QB also last year who is back?

They are argueably the best coached team in the vally also, Vic Grider is a keeper!

good coaching? A huge fight broke out, and the player who caused it only sat out two plays and was back on the field. Any coaching at any level in any sport that allows that is unacceptable. They may be good with x's and o's, but they have no discipline.

goforthegoal, you put reasonable and sometimes accurate post on here, but you are off with Marco. You had a post on here not to long ago about how this Jo Jo Vestal kid was the next greatest Lb in the state (1A). Where was he on Marco's big run. And on this pass Marco threw, who was it that had him in the backfield and whiffed when Marco sidestepped him to throw the bomb to his reciever. I'm not raggin on Eagleville, they have come a long way in four years. They are just a (small) step behind SP and MP. And let me ask another question. Why when the 2s were playing yall had your first string back in there? When MP fans say good things about Marco it isnt a rip on SP or Eagleville, but it was just obvious he is an athlete playing at a higher level of athletisim then anyone on the field this past Friday.

What you need to do is get your story straight. When Marco threw that long bomb to his reciever (which was underthrown) Eagleville wasnt even playing so it is kinda hard for anyone to do something about someone else when they arent even playing. And about the run well lets see Marco ran to the outside away from him and jojo at the time had a pulled groin which slowed him down. If you watched the south pittsburg game jojo came out half way through the game.

Ohh yea you are right the td pass was against SP. Im sorry. Marco just touched the ball 4-5 times and had two huge plays so I kind of got things mixed up. Thanks for the correction. Yes the pass was a little underthrown but he was rolling to his left avoding a sack and still threw 40+ yards to a reciever that did a good job adjusting the ball. Look the bottom line is this, there were a lot of good players out on that scrimmage field. The best in my opinion was Marco. Anybody there will tell you this. When nominations come up for Mr. Football I'll guarantee you his name will be there.

Have you ever played football? Fights are common in scrimmage atmosphere.

Murder and stealing is common nowdays but does that make it right? The nature of the sport is aggressive, it is the coaches job to keep it between the whistles. When it escalades to what it did in that scrimmage then consequenses should be distributed.

Excuses for Jo Jo having a pulled groin is an EXCUSE. If he was 100% there is still no way he will catch and tackle Marco. He should have never been in there as late as he was. I will take Marco over Jo Jo any time any place, who wouldn't?

Cutting the ball to the outside must have been were the hole was. Looked like he hit the hole well. 6 points is 6 points now matter how you get it.

Jo Jo maybe all-state playing aganist Chapel Hill, McEwen And Cascade. He is not aganist the big boys. Jo Jo on a few offensive plays ducked under the SP defense from getting licked. What was up with that?

I said it before if anyone who has seen Marco on the field I would say 85% or more will tell you that he is the real deal.

I could see a repeat of the last time MP & Eagleville played if it was to happen.

One more thing, In the workouts what was the deal when Marco went in on defense and the Eagleville coaches were blowing the whistles when Marco was about to lower the boom on the Eagleville players? You think he can run he can also lay a lick on you too.

Haha you crack me up. First off I wasnt making excuses for him I was just making a point, and second in the all-state you dont just do it in the region it is ALL-STATE. Third SP always went after the knees and jojo doesnt shy away from contact so if he did it was b/c it would be stupid to hurt your knees in a scrimmage. And fourth the coaches blew the whistle and we let up. If he can lay a lick then why didnt he.

I have said over and over yes he is a very good outstanding 1a runningback and yes baring any injury will be nominated for Mr. Football. I have said that all along but their are other runningbacks of his calibra. Yall act like he is a D1 prospect which he is'nt. He is a great 1a football player. Concerning Vestal yes I thinlk he will be a Mr. Football nominee as a linebacker which is a lineman when being considered for Mr. Football. I never compared him to Daily they play different positions. I talked to several people at the scrimmage and at the drills that were more impressed with the South Pittsburg rb than they were with Daily, so everyone that were at the scrimmage will not tell you that Daily looked better. One thing for sure time will tell. On another post their was a statement concerning the week schedule of Eagleville, if I remember correctly Mt. Pleasants schedule included the power houses of Zion and Cornersville.

I agree Zion and Cornersville arent that tough. All regions have their weaker teams. I know MP use to be one LOL. But all has changed. Region 6 is tougher because of the stronger teams like Collinwood, Wayne Co., Huntland and every so often CA, when they have a good recruiting year. Region 5 is tough also, hey they represented in the semi final, not a Region 6 team. And to end, Marco is D1 material, remember this will just be his junior year. His size will be the only thing that keeps him from D1, not his talent. By no means am I comparing him to this guy, but Barry Sanders wasnt much bigger than Marco and looked what he did. All the bigger D1 schools stayed away because of size but Oklahoma St. took a gamble and it payed off.

One more thing. The back from SP, lets compare his stats to Marco at the end of the year and see whats what.

    • I've always been a football fan first and then if you have a band that's awesome. No question that DB has one of the best bands in the country and the whole region should attend at least one DB game just to see their band. I don't know if Nick Saban could come to Kingsport and build a football program that could match the Dobyns Bennett band's success. That said,as mentioned before, a couple of things would have to change in order for the Tribe to just win a state championship on the field.Besides a program that starts from the peewee teams and goes all the way to J Fred with all coaches and weight training { in time }on the same page. Sometimes it also takes a little luck like the 1998 Vols .There are a lot of great athletes at a lot of big schools around the state and just because you want something doesn't mean your going to build a program like Alcoa has. Yes,start at the bottom and have guys that are quality coaches teaching at every level is 100% the first step. Parents can make it a lot easier by getting their young athletes into an early start with conditioning and weights as well when they are old enough to lift.If your son is a man in the weight room before he gets to DB , then it won't take a "Dobbs" coach to make him competitive against other schools athletes when it comes to strength.
    • Dyersburg scrimmaged South Gibson last week
    • A complete cultural change happened at Greeneville and the administration and community opened up their checkbooks.  What a lot of people don't know is Ballard was Zeller's OC for many years and stopped coaching for two years because Zeller and Ballard didn't see eye to eye on some things.  Zeller lead Greeneville to it's first ever Semi Final appearance in 2000 and lost 28-12 at Maryville and had them in the Quarter Finals in 2002 and 2003.  Z was a great coach but lost some control when it came to making workouts mandatory. (He learned from that Mistake and it was at LC when i coached with him.).  Z was let go going into my Senior Year and was replaced by Steve McCurry who was the one that turned the program around.  Steve had won a 4a state championship at AC Reynolds in Asheville and made the administration completely redo the weight room with new equipment, had a football period at the end of the school day to lift, started devil camp, and brought in coaches like Danny Bentley (Still the OL coach), Ballard as the OC, Cody Baugh (QB coach and still there), and even Spradlen who is Greeneville's head coach now as the DB's Coach.  McCurry only coached for two seasons at Greeneville and took a team that had a losing record the year before and finished my Senior Year making it to the Quarters and having a 10-3 record and then followed it up with a Semi Final appearance the next year with an 11-3 record and back to back conference championships.  Loved McCurry to death but the recession hit and the story i heard was he was still buying new equipment for the team that the Principal didn't authorize and his response was "I don't answer to you and only to Niswonger and Bewley" (Two huge donors).  That was it for him and they Promoted Ballard shortly after that.   Greeneville had always been relevant ever since the the late 70's under Coach Fred Sorrell's.  Since Sorrell's took over in 1977 Greeneville overall winning percentage is over 76%.  The biggest reason people might not have thought Greeneville was "Good" until Ballard was Greeneville always played up Classification wise and could never get over the hump. (When there were 3 classifications we played 3a, when it went to 5 we played 4a).  Greeneville is the largest its ever been with 953 students and where playing teams 2 or 3 times there size back in the day (I had a little over 800 kids in the school when i graduated in 2008).  Other teams always would know they would be sore after a game but depth took over and never won a Championship until Greeneville played in the classification the TSSAA actually assigned them. You had names like Dustin Moore (1993 Mr Football for 3a and who Phillip Fulmer said was one of the greatest athletes he ever recruited), James "Mud Turtle" Mayes, Brigham Lyons, Byron Gillespie, Frankie Debusk (National Champion Qb at Furman with GQ), Jasmine Lowery, Cody Baugh, The Greenway Brothers, Joe Watson (Furman), etc.  Now the cultural is from the Pee Wee league up and you grow up as a young kid wanting to wear the Greene and White.  Here is a really good link when it comes to anything Greeneville Football related. https://greenevillefootball.com/   I also don't coach anymore.  Z told me i was to smart with how the school systems are ran these days and ended up going into real estate in Knoxville which has been a great decision for my life.
    • Yes, they will. I'm wondering what kinds of strides Sale Creek will make heading into the second season under Coach Fitz.
    • No yellow stripes on the rug last night. Biggest crowd I’ve seen at 825 since the alco debacle.
