Indian
Per capita, I've read South Carolina and Louisiana put out as many topnotch players as any other state. You could go with the highest populated states if you want the highest number, Florida, California, Texas, Ohio, Pennsylvania.

SACDAWGS
Who has the best, in your honost opinion, high school football players that in turn are succesful in college?????? California, Florida, Texas are always the top 3. Every year it seems to switch as to which state is the best. Yes, population does play a huge part in it. Depending upon which College Conference you may align yourself with, SEC, PAC-10, Big 10, WAC, ACC, etc...you will see players from across the country but a higher percentage of the player are from within the region of that particular conference. 13sports
Football is very popular in Tennessee, but the state does not necessarily produce an unbelievable amount of talent. Texas, Florida, Georgia, Virginia, Mississippi, California, and several others produce more players. Basketball probably produces more big time players but the sport does not seem to get the backing/support of football. Kentucky is considered a basketball state. Many gyms are large and packed with rabid fans at every game. However, that does not mean the state is packed with talent. The 2005 signing class for basketball in Kentucky produced 7 Division 1 signees. Tennessee makes that number pale in comparison. My point is popularity does not equal talent produced.
