8th graders and football

Recommended Posts

hey muffin you are correct about that rule. That`s the way I have always heard it. But that got me to wondering...do you know how that applies to 6th graders who are under the same roof as the middle school? In other words can 6th graders play on a middle school team if they are under the same roof? I`ve never really heard it discussed either way.

"do you know how that applies to 6th graders who are under the same roof as the middle school?"

6th graders cannot play, practice, or even be a manager if the middle school is tssaa. however, if the school is not (and many, if not most, do not belong to tssaa) there is no penalty upon reaching high school.

personally, i think it is foolish for any middle school to belong to tssaa.

there are no championships, or any other benefits that i know of,

just a bunch of rules and limitations to make you less competitive.

Thanks for the info Laz. Like I said, I`ve never really heard that issue discussed, but I was sure there must have been some policy on it.

  • 3 weeks later...

what about schools that are not under one roof but are spread out on a campus..where all the kids go back and forth?

I believe the rule states that it must be under one roof... even if the other building is right next to the highschool, if it is not the same "building" it doesn't matter. (correct me if I am wrong about that)

The rule actually does not state anything about being under one roof. The rule states that they must have the same administration, principal. It can be several buildings on the same campus as long as they all answer to the same principal. And you can even have a 7-12 grade school where the high school students are part of TSSAA and the lower grades are NOT TMSAA. Also you may only play 5 yrs for TSSAA. So if a student is pulled up as an 8th grader and they fail their junior year they are not eligible to play as a senior.

Adding to this ... you can have a principal for elementary, middle, junior, and high school all in separate buildings spread out on one campus ... as long as they all report to one "headmaster" the kids can play (granted for 5 years).

All public schools, that I know of, have a principal and an assistant principal or two.

Any public school has a principal, a vice principal in charge of curriculum, a vice principal in charge of discipline, a vice principal in charge of parking lots, vice principal in charge of administration, vice principal in charge of keeping up with vice principals. Of course everyone needs a secretary. Oops I'm sorry - an administrative assistant! Wonder why property taxes keep going up?
