It's funny you mention that; back in 2005, there were tons of people in Knoxville who said the same thing. I always thought there was something fishy about that. If I remember correctly, they were just one or two students shy of the magical cutoff for 5A in 2005. Kinda ironic...

I conducted a 700 student field trip the day the TSSAA count was taken. B)

Knox County will definitely be making a big mistake if they don't build Hardin Valley to hold around 2000 kids. There is still an outside chance that they may build it for 1300, but I think they realize that in order to support the growth in west and northwest Knoxville, plus relieve overcrowding at Farragut, Bearden, and Karns, it needs to be a 1900-student school.

I wouldn't count on maryville moving up to 5A. They magically seem to be just a few students shy of 5A every time this rolls around. B)

I wonder if by accusing a man like Coach Quarles and an entire community ( Maryville ) of being cheaters , if it makes you feel better about you being the loser that you are and probably the team that you support too ..... If this is the pathetic , whiny , loser mentality that is prevalent in your community , where you cry " cheater " anytime you lose ... instead of learning from your losses and seeing what you can do to get better . Something that someone who makes anonymous , bogus accusations on a discussion board would know nothing about .

We aren't pointing any fingers, I was simply pointing out the irony. You have to admit, a lot of people asked that question back in '05. I'm not accusing Maryville of anything, I just think it's very coincidental. I have a lot of respect for the Maryville community and the football program. What I don't have a lot of respect for is the arrogance that so many Maryville fans out there have. I realize that you guys win, and when you win, you earn the right to arrogance. I'm simply stating one man's opinion.

" A lot of People " ?? What ... just because you and some of your buddies hate the fact that Maryville has a great Coach , and a great community for high school football you think it's ok to try and throw rumors and false accusations out there about them ? Maybe if the shoe was on the other foot , you'd know why the Maryville fans are fed up with stuff like this being said , instead of people admiring a football team and it's coaches who have worked their butts off ... just to be called cheaters by some envious , jealous people . If you knew Coach Quarles in any way what so ever ... you would realize just how stupid the people are who try to diminish his accomplishments by calling him a cheater .

Maryville fans weren't sitting around whining and crying about Cleveland " must be cheating " in the early 90's when they were kicking ours , and everybody else's butts ... we were trying to be like them . Maybe some of the losers who are so quick to point a finger of accusation against someone who beats them , should follow that example of Maryville ... after all , you learn more about the character of someone in defeat ... not in victory .

Hey pepvol, nothing but love for the Rebels on my part. Would you guys rather play in region 1 with DB, or region 2 with OR Cats?

With region 2 , I'm sure , so we could keep our inter - county rivalries going with Heritage & WB . Oak Ridge & Maryville will be an awesome rivalry for years to come I hope , It's always great to go to another community who shares the same great love and deep respect for the game of football as we have here in Maryville . We will only make each other better .

Jeez, chill out for a second. Again, realize I'm not pointing any fingers or anything like that. I'm just reiterating a common thought. I was at least complimenting your community and your football program, and you just threw it right back in my face. The sad thing is, that's not the first time that has happened on here. There are plenty of Maryville fans on this site who are a joy to talk to on these message boards, but some of you guys (not just Maryville fans), are just a royal pain. You read too deeply into what I said, or maybe you just enjoy being a pain. I don't live in Maryville, so I won't pretend to know how people think there. All I know is that you have a great, class-act coach with a good community supporting him, and if you actually listened to what I was saying, you would have seen that. The whole world isn't out to get you Maryville Rebels. I was at Powell back in the Cleveland domination days, and you guys have a very similar thing going on at Maryville that they did at Cleveland. You win, plain and simple. Winning generates state titles. Sorry you seem so frustrated with people from Knoxville. You gotta realize that as long as there have been winners, there have been people accusing winners of cheating, etc. I don't even think I even said anything about cheating anyways, so I guess I don't understand. I just used the word ironic.

I'll even add this. I respect Maryville a lot because they win games regardless of talent. This school hasn't churned out the kind of D-I talent that some other programs have been fortunate enough to have, which shows the kind of dedication their kids and coaches have. That's what football is all about.

I wonder why if you believe Coach Quarles to be a " Great , class act coach " You had this to say

You said this in response to Sneakypete's attempt to point a finger of accusation towards Maryville and coach Quarles ... I wonder why if you believe Quarles to be a" Great , class act coach " , you wouldn't have responded by taking up for him ? If by being fed up with so many people being jealous of Maryville's success , and feeling like I need to defend them when outlandish claims are made against them ... I'm considered " Arrogant " ... then I'll wear that badge with pride . I wonder how you would be posting if it was your school that was being drug through the mud , and you was close enough to the program to know that all of the accusations were a load of BULL .... would you not defend your school ?

No doubt, I would definitely defend my school! However, I wouldn't read so deeply into those comments that I would try and start something that wasn't even there to begin with. Look, I never accused Maryville of anything. All I said was that it was "ironic" and "fishy." I simply pointed that out. I never said, "I think Quarles is a cheater." I've said it before, and I'll say it again, Quarles is a good coach, plain and simple. I won't disrespect the guy because he doesn't do anything wrong. This is a discussion board, and people are going to play the devil's advocate. If your english 101 skills have served you at all, you would understand that irony and accusations don't equate. I'm not trying to start something here. Save your frustrations for someone who actually has something against your school.

I am not a lawyer, but I know school law in and out.  Similar situations just like this play out thousands of times each year across the country, even at the college level (i.e. Ole Miss)  The Plaintiff's never win...ever.  If I am wrong, please provide a legal precedent for me. • It used to be, I think it still is, a change of 20% +/- gives reason to reclassify. Schools can choose to play up classifications but not down. Here is the mid cycle reclassification info on TSSAA.org When Memphis East changed from a regular public school to an "all-optional" school in 2017 the would've dropped to A but chose to stay in AAA in basketball (baseball, and softball) Penny was still coaching there and with the players they had they would've beaten A teams by 40 and slept walked to the championship. Other Memphis schools stayed in their classifications (mostly in basketball) until the next reclassification cycle. Of course this is the same time that a 4th class was added basketball.
