To answer the original question, does the winner have a playoff spot, the answer is not necessarily. Powell has the talent to right the ship. West has the players to win some games. Halls has showed show life last week. Clinton is much improved. Lenoir city showed up to play last week. Clearly S-D stinks. Maryville and Central are a lock. As for positions 3 and 4, Halls, West, Clinton and Powell all have legit chances at making the playoffs. While this game is important for both clubs, it doesn't necessarily guarantee anything. Each week will be critical. While Provol is going to be critical of anyone that doesn't give Halls a Golden Ticket to the playoffs, most intelligent football fans that actually look at other teams just a little, know that spots 3 and 4 are up for grabs.

ProVol90,

I dont know who you are, but I know you are new, you are gonna have to stop talking bad about other teams, Clinton has showed more than Halls has this year, we put up a good 1st half fight against Oak Ridge, and looked much better against Maryville, Halls is yet to play a good game, beating Gibbs doesnt mean nothing, Clinton could of have KILLED CC, but we took our starters out after Half, we even had our 3rd QB in the game, if everyone on the Football team is thinking like you, and not expecting a hard game, Then the Dragons is gonna come in and KILL the DEVILS!!!! :thumb:

hey coonhunter,

I think Clinton has made great progress. I don't think ProVol was trying to talk bad about them. I think he was drawing a comparison based on the fact that Dragoons hadn't given Halls any chance of making the playoffs (before his last post) but felt Clinton had a good chance. Both teams are on similar tracks right now. Both have lost to good teams and both have manhandled a weaker team. I think Clinton vs. Halls will be a good game.

But the game at hand...........

I am having a hard time with this one. Halls is hard to read. Being a talented young team, they have the potential to jump up and bite West but mistakes are usually a curse for young players. This game is hard to call. A low scoring game favors Halls. So I put the pressure on the Halls defense. I think the offense will score about 20 points. Can the defense hold West under 20? Probably not. I give West the edge, but Halls defense was the surprise last week. Gibbs has a fair offense. Another good performance out of them and this one is a Halls win.

With my head:

West 28 Halls 23

With my heart:

Halls 23 West 14

I very much agree. Before the Gibbs game, the Halls defense was pretty good against the run (Jamie Wilson was stuffed), but gave up way too much on the bubble passes/screens. The Gibbs game saw a much improved defense against the pass. West appears to have a good running game and has one of the best receivers we'll see. So, like you, I think if Halls keeps this one close late we'll pull out the win. But to be realistic, it will be tough. Our talented young players are really going to have to step it up for this one.

A couple of weeks ago I wouldn't have give us a chance in... (you fill the blank). But knowing our defense looked very good against a predominately passing team last week in Gibbs I think we have grown up a little. West have a lot of weapons. The big matchup will be how can the secondary cope against Jake Ryan and Easterly. If the secondary plays another stimulated game anything could happen. We need to get off the a good start and take their passing game away. I really believe we can score on West. For some reason West has struggled in the past playing us so I hope it continues Friday night. :thumb:

    • Defending 2A state Champs Westview Lady Chargers are pretty tough. They lost a bunch of production off last year's squad but returned some talent as well. They still McCall Simms, a Tennesseee Lady Vol softball commit as well as solid talent around the diamond. I dont think they are as good as last season but they will definitely be a tough out. Huntingdon Lady Mustangs seem to be pretty stout as well. Don't know much about Riverside other than Westview defeated them earlier in regions. West Tennessee softball is pretty solid all around id say.
    • Eagleville couldn’t catch up to Jones, he did have his location issues but in that game Eagleville popped up everything and the one hit they did have could have been ruled an error. Jeffcoat was a lot sharper in the beginning of the season last year than the end. ER ran out of pitching and still was in striking distance but none the less the better team one. Last seasons tournament was A LOT more balanced and talented. South Pitts starter is a Lefty who was low 80’s but couldn’t maintain his velo throughout the  outing, their #2 was more impressive last year, we knocked him around this year and his mph was down some. Their #3 isn’t bad neither, throws a lot of strikes and sits high 70’s.
    • He actually had a really solid spring.  I could see him getting some backup snaps on offense and be a regular on special teams.  Really athletic kid who can run.
    • Heard Seq has gotten a lot stronger this off season. Can’t wait to see how the boys do this year
