A closing thought for the McCallie players.... you guys played a great game, filled with spirt and sportsmanship. I know loosing is never fun but you guys are winners in my book. Few teams play as hard and as pasionately as you guys do.

Last nights game may have been the best high school football game i ever watched!!!

A good argument could be made that it is no surprise that Alcoa won this game. I have read that Alcoa fans treated the win as though it was a state championship--it was obviously a huge game.

McCallie, on the other hand, had just beaten the the top ranked team in D-II (BA) and has its big time rival (Baylor) coming up after Alcoa. The proverbial "sandwich game" between BA and Baylor.

I am not taking anything away from Alcoa. Sounds like a great game won by a great team. I just think you folks who believe it was a huge upset are wrong.

Congrats to both teams on a tough game with neither team willing to concede defeat. I look for both these teams to win their respective devisions.

I also read in the paper that the fans "treated the win as though it was a state championship". I beg to differ. This was the 3rd game this year that was extremely close: We lost to Maryville and Fulton by a combined total of 6 points. The importance of this game grew toward the end of the game; the team's confidence during a big game was on the line. I looked at the person next to me in the last few seconds and made the statement that we couldn't lose another close one. It was a nailbiter, for sure. I believe it was a big game for McCallie as well since they lost to us last year at their home by 10 points, and they lost very few players from last year's team.

With McCallie being undefeated, and having beat our head coach's former school, that made it bigger for us.

After reading the posts on this board as well as others, everybody expected McCallie to win. Was it an upset? I don't think so, either. I think it was 2 very evenly matched teams battling it out. The outcome definitely could've gone either way. Knowing how McCallie beat Riverdale in the last few minutes of the game put everybody on edge during the last seconds on Friday.

Conney was amazing. I think Cobb and Coleman were very evenly matched, but I was more impressed with Conney than I was with Coleman, to be perfectly honest. It was an amazing, well-played game!

Congratulations to Alcoa on a great win! On to Regional play!!!

I don't know about gifts and all of that, McCallie would not come close to beating Maryville. Fulton I am not sure about. I did say Alcoa would lose three this year and I think McCallie will be the third one. Sorry Tornado fans but in 2A, in East TN you are on top. But outside of 2A vs. good teams Alcoa is average at best. McCallie will be Alcoa's last loss till the State Game IMO, then I'm not sure yet.

I thought that "experts" were supposed to be un-biased. If Alcoa is "average at best" against good teams outside of 2A, Maryville and Fulton must only be slightly better than average because they only beat Alcoa by 3.

Alcoa only beat McCallie 24-21. But I guess you're right in saying that McCallie would not come close to beating Maryville. PUHHLEASE! I've only been on coacht a little while, but you're "Maryville is God" logic is already getting old. I think it's fair to say that you need to start giving credit where credit is due.

I was wrong, great win by Alcoa. I had thought, like many others did, McCallie would be too tough for Alcoa. Paper said MCC had 325 yards in the air and 142 on the ground!

How can a team get nearly 470 yards of Offence and still lose? Mr. Butts in the Maryville Daily Fish Wrap said it was the defense that came through? Really?

I thought GQ was the only coach to use the hook and ladder?

Great win Alcoa, Congratz, you’re going to roll now.

It was a bend but not break defensive effort by Alcoa. Gave up alot of yards between the twenties. McCallie has a good offense and the defense was better than last years. I am surprised they went for the tie and O.T. Since it was a non region road game I thought they would take one more shot at the end zone. On a side note this was the first game of the season where Alcoa committed more turnovers than the opposition.

Was a heck of a game to watch. BJ had a rough first half, but rebounded some in the 2nd. Hard to believe when a QB threw for over 300 yards it can be considered an off game, but many of those deep balls in the first half and early 2nd he normally hits.

Great game though by both teams. I felt like Alcoa was the 1st team all year that had the same amount of athletes as McCallie does. Wouldn't suprise me if both of these teams run the table from here on out.

Yes Conney was great but McCallie did not allow #5 to get any touches in the 2nd half which would have made them more balance.

Not sure what you mean. Maybe I'm not reading your message right. Could you please explain?

If you mean Alcoa's #5, I think you might mean #4 or #6. #5 for Alcoa doesn't run the ball!

Thanks!

    • Who’s going to lead the pirates offense this year?
    • Pickett is good, may have a Mr. Football like season if he’s used correctly. One of the best teams Marion has fielded in a while. I think they go 12-1 and loose to ER.  ER has better players at almost every position. If they play discipline this year, they win soundly. If they don’t though…Marion could sneak away with it.
    • I’m betting the house on the Indians. Pickett and Co will be the only team to challenge the Indians in the East. Huntingdon can in the West. I think Brooks goes 15-0 and has the first perfect season and state championship in ER history.
    • Sounds like a great opportunity has opened up for the football team.  With the head coach of the diamond rebels making it official and quitting this week, there should be some room for the gridiron guys to benefit. I assume the administration won’t continue paying six figures to two former coach that quit to continue teaching drivers Ed. Thats pretty good money that could be redirected toward the football program. Also, with the more recent policies of pushing kids to only play one sport, abolishing the baseball program altogether would help on Friday nights in the fall. There is some decent speed on that baseball team that should’ve been playing on Fridays IMO. I’m not sure if anybody would really miss that baseball program anyway with it being across town from the school. The liability of letting players actually use the facilities could also be mitigated with closing the program. That liability seems to be a really big issue for 825. Anyway, it seems like a great opportunity is available.
    • Yeah, I read about their spring blue/gray scrimmage after I typed that.   Sounds like a real mess over there.  I just hate that for 'em.  Haw
