Coach Culbreth (Farragut) and I are going to try and address this issue with the TSSAA directly, and appeal to the board how this will greatly affect the quality of soccer in the state of TN as a whole. We have never done this before, but I feel so strongly against this, that I am willing to step up and out and give it a try. If you are a soccer coach, and would also like to be involved, please give me a call at school at 865-690-4721 ext 227 or e mail at CAKsoccer@bellsouth.net

Also, if you have had any experience addressing the board, or advice, please post a response or send us a note. We could use your help.

I guess I remain surprised that more of the smaller rural schools haven't responded to this issue. I seriously doubt it will hurt schools like Farragut, CAK, Catholic, Bearden or Webb in the long run because Knoxville has multiple clubs with decent teams spead across each age group. The same is true for all of the larger cities like Memphis, Nashville and Chattanooga. In areas where there is only one active club---or sometimes only one active high-school aged club team---there are going to be problems.

I actually got a few e mails from some rural coaches, they just didn't post on Coach T. But you are right (as usual). I would have thought they would have fought it more. We should know by this afternoon.

I wonder if the TSSAA has goten any legal advice on this opening them up to a lawsuit? Seems like they could wind up paying some serious damages according to my ATTY buds.

I don't see any perceived gain being worth the risk to TSSAA's finances.

    • I have no idea who your team is, but Memphis and other Shelby Co. schools have hardly made a dent, if you’re talking Game 15 appearances. Outside of a couple by Whitehaven, I can’t recall the last team in a final.
    • Robbed you guy at a chance of 3 state championships. You never kne, sond best team in the west my have beat you also, but you sure deserved the chance to play um.
    • Eagleville also loses Brown the catcher, Lamb CF, Mclemore RF (Heck of an athlete) and Drew the 1st baseman. They will be young.
    • Good thing we aren’t in Florida then huh? It would benefit a ton of the smaller schools  that don’t have the pools of kids to choose from! They should start by policing Shelby County like they do the rest of the state! Something has to change though and TSSAA knows that!
    • Correct, you can whimsically be fired in coaching. A coach that has tenure can stay on as a teacher if released from coaching. If you don’t have tenure as a teacher, you can fired without cause. Your last year as a teacher before tenure is earned you can be fired, but must be given cause. A tenured teacher can be fired, but it is a long hard process requiring the 3 D’s…. documentation, documentation and documentation. I have released 3 tenured teachers, 2 with PHD’s. However, teacher contracts had and still have clauses that state you can be fired for a variety reasons re: being arrested, public drunkenness, inappropriate relationships ect.
