Sad thing is if you build your entire team around one or two players, injuries hurt a lot more than if you have a well balanced team. Huntingdon has done well for themselves the last few years but i played against them and i can think of only 5 or 6 names that have brought them all of their success. Maybe it's time to get over what ever injuries you have with your stars and try breaking in some of that unsung talent

I agree with you 100%,

I agree. Look at the difference in Mckenzie this year compared to the last 3 years when they tried to build their team around 1 player

I disagree with most of what your saying. Yes we have had some players that recieved a lot of attention, but in EVERY year that we had success it wasn't just the big name guys getting it done. It doesn't matter what team you want to look at: Huntingdon, Milan, or any others, no one player is going to make that team I don't care how good he is. At the same time, no one player is going to cause a TEAM to lose.

There is no question that Huntingdon has not lived up to the expectations going into this season, but, as a fan, you know its great that everyone has those expectations. Fans may talk about injuries, but its not players or coaches making that an excuse about why we lost and believe me there has been more than our share of those going around. I believe that the only reason injuries have become a topic this year is because of lack of depth. We have more guys playing both ways and many times the backup for a position is someone that is already starting.

I find your post quite funny. I seem to remember a young man named Rod Smith. Would you agree that he brought you all of the success? I wouldn't. It takes more than "5 or 6 names" over the past years to have success.

Rod Smith-Mr. Football, All-State, West TN player of the year, All region, Region 7AA Player of the year

Terricus Davis-Mr. Football Finalist, All-State, All West TN, All region, Region 7AA Defensive MVP

Daniel Beasley-All-State, All West TN, All region

Sam Sulivan-All State, All West TN, All region

Daylan Walker-All State, All West TN, All region

George West-All State, All West TN, All region, Region 7AA Offensive MVP

Ryan Barnes-All West TN, All Region

Chad Autry-All West TN, All Region

Ricky Goff-All West TN, All Region--400 lb. bench press(just had to say it)

Bryce King-All Region

Brad Garmany-All Region

Brent Ramsey-All Region

Antonio Williams-All Region

Chris Burke-All Region

Travis White-All Region

Jason Belew-All Region

Eric Coleman-All Region

A few more than one player

A few more than one player

I am not sure how many years you are covering with that list but I do know that Rod Smith was the big guy on the 2003 team. That year alone Huntingdon had 14 All Region players and 3 All-State players. I would say that was definately more than 1 or 2. Just to make a comparison to this year, if I counted correctly, we had 16 players total filling the 22 starting positions.

One year, 2003.

Thats exactly my point. Yall have a couple of stars and a few good players and thats all you build your team around. Thus, a few injuries, and yall start crying about why yall are loosing.

Your not getting my point. We don't have the depth that we have had in the past. When the depth was there, the kids played. I know Morris would put the kids out there that gives Milan the best chance to win. Mansfield does exactly the same thing and if you look at the last few years the coaching staff has done an excellent job of doing that.

I haven't posted all week but I've got a few thoughts I'd like to share. Since when is everybody an authority on Mustang football. Outsiders don't know the thoughts of Huntingdon and their fans. One poster said for Mustang fans to be proud again.. Come on now... I'll put our fans up against anybody. With a modern day record of 542-257, I'd say we're no Johnny Come Lately........ 109 wins in the last ten years.

Another poster said Huntingdon is making excuses in their loss to the Rebels. I've gone back and checked. Almost all of us give insight but not whining like some say. I said on the Huntingdon-McKenzie thread after the game last week, we got beat "fair and square". The Rebels were ready to play and we weren't. They deserved to win.

Spoiled maybe but not whiners. We can take it over here.

Another poster said why schedule McKenzie for homecoming? Home games against Westview, Trenton, Gibson County, Humboldt, or McKenzie.. The Rebels hadn't beaten Huntingdon here in 43 years. Had Mansfield rather play a non region game for homecoming. Well yes. At least McKenzie will schedule us and not refuse to play us. We picked up Liberty Tech.. Maybe we can get Middleton or Gleason to come play us. Seems to me Milan scheduled a region game against Trenton a couple of years ago for their homecoming.. Ouch..

Now let's talk about so called excuses..

(1) Season ending injuries to three starters. That's no excuse.

(2) Your best player at 75% with a hammy. That's no excuse.

(3) Your starting QB out one game with a SEVERE back injury and plays the following week. There's no excuse here either.

(4) Your starting fullback at 75%. The coaches come in 10 minutes before kickoff and tell him his step dad has been killed and his mom is in critical care in Jackson. (They were on their way to the game I understand).. Mustang locker room in a shambles.. We won't use that either.

So for all ya'll who Think you know Mustang football... You really don't.

Blocking and tackling wins football games.

Go Mustangs........ Tradition Never Graduates...

good post mr. mustang, but you left out one thing that needs to be mentioned, that starting fullback went ahead and played the game after getting that terrible news.

Your exactly right butchie, if i remember correctly, Huntingdon went to the clinic bowl in 99 when it was held at Vanderbilt U, and the regular season record was 6-4, which included a loss to class A Bruceton, so dont count out the mustangs just yet people.

    • Congratulations to Huntingdon and Station Camp. Lots of good softball in Tennessee. Alcoa been media favorite last two seasons.
    • Im more of a Basketball follower than football and like I said we play what we have, there is no going and recruiting or even talking kids into transferring…..and to rebut about Memphis teams in finals I’ve watched Memphis East and Penny Hardaway with the enrollment of a single A team play up and dominate any and all challengers for years! They aren’t the only ones either Mike Miller and son at Germantown put together that super team a couple years ago that ran through the rest of the state! Other teams from Memphis or Chatt or Nash or any large populated area pop up and are relevant out of nowhere every year because they get an influx of talent be it from a new coach or AAU affiliations it happens in football also just like any other sport! I hope these two schools that close join together and get to play the team you support, then you may see it differently! I find it funny some of you think recruiting and resources don’t matter . The county schools get very little funding also but you don’t want to get me started on that part!
    • In a total classless move, Coach Simmons once again shows his true colors. Waits till the day after school is out to let everyone know he is leaving. Fails up to a community college job after a lackluster 2 year span at GH. And do not tell me about the state run that saved a sub .500 season and plenty of whippings by Cookeville and Lebanon.  Looks like the girls job at GH is cursed. Terrible MS program/coaches feeding what is turning out to be a joke of a HS team.
