Carter Conty Predictions: Week 9

Boys and girls, its week 9. We've only got 2 more weeks of football, then its play-off time!!!

Unaka @ Idle: Unaka has an off week before their final regular season game at Jellico. It'll be good for them to have a week to just work on whatever they need to this close to the play-offs.

Happy Valley @ Hampton: Hampton comes into this game after a good win over Chuckey-Doak. It wasn't a blow-out by any means, but it was a solid win. Happy Valley got handled by South Greene last Friday atop Warrior Hill, and I fully expect the same thing this Friday. The Warrior offense is shotty at best, especially against a good defense. Look for the Bulldogs to cruise to an easy win in this one... Hampton-35 Happy Valley-7

Cloudland @ Grace Christian: Cloudland comes into this game hanging on the slimmest of play-off hopes. If they can win this game, they will end up in a three way tie for 4th in the region along with Grace and Jellico. Cloudland won't beat Hampton, so those three teams will end up with the same regular season record as well (3-7). Then, the Highlanders will have a chance, but I don't know how the rest of the tie-breakers go... But that all depends if Cloudland can win this game... Cloudlands backs are too small to out power Grace, and I don't think they can out-run the Ram's defense either. Coach Satterfield will have his boys ready to go to the play-offs, and it will show in the end... Grace Christian-28 Cloudland-24

Elizabethton @ Sullivan Central: The Cyclones kept there slim play-off hopes alive with a win over East last week, but they had better be on the look out for a let down. A loss to the Cougars would put a humiliating exclamation point on the Cyclone’s season, and the coaching career of Eddie Pless at Elizabethton... The Cougars always seem to play up (or down) to right below the level of the team they are playing.. This game will be tight, and regulation won't be enough to decide it.... Elizabethton-38 Sullivan Central-31 OT

Rangerbook, I looked for you the other night. You do a good job of hiding. Anyway,

Cloudland 22 Grace Christian 20

Happy Valley 28 Hampton 27

Elizabethton 28 Sullivan Central 6

Well, as everyone knows, my picks have done been made by KING:

Grace Christian over Cloudland (CLoudlands playoff hopes vanish)

Hampton over Happy Valley(Hampton unleashes more weapons)

Sullivan Central over Elizabethton (had to, King picked Elizabethton and cursed them) ;)

Hampton don't have enough able bodies to play, Happy valley will shock the world. it won't be a shock to anyone close to the program.

Pujo, them boys will do just fine friday. Hopefully all of the sickness and injuries will be over soon and them bulldogs can take care of business come playoff time.

I really hope so, its just been a tough year, maybe everything will get back somewhat close to normal around playoff time. I know Hampton has the players if they can just get healthy and stay that way.

    • Deja vu all over again, 7 yrs apart. SMDH Does anybody talk to each other?
    • OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.
    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
