Carter Conty Predictions: Week 9

I have heard that a lot of bulldog players need to develope a little toughness. Get a hangnail and have to sit out 2 weeks. If this is true they will not make it past the 1st round. I never thought HHS would have this problem. And the bad thing is there is nothing coaches can do about toughness. They have the talent, but the want-to, heart , or whatever you want to call it isn't there. I know some players read these boards maybe someone questioning their manhood will light a fire under them

If it takes these boards to do that then it's time to P on the fire and call in the dogs because this hunt is over.

Hampton has some kids as tough as uou are going to find, but as a team ,they don't seem to care one way or the other. I feel bad for the kids who give it their all every day in practice and then again on Friday night. They already lost one warrior and if they can't keep some starters on the line, they may lose the rest. Football is a very tough sport,it takes mental and phyical toughness. Not every kid that puts on a uniform is a football player. I think they just play to be a part of something or to apease their parents. My kid plays Quaterback and he broke the heck out of his finger about 5 weeks ago, he has taken every snap. He loves the game and I don't pamper him. He is and will be a warrior, I just hope he has some more with him. I don't force my kids to do anything, but if they are going to do something ,they are not going to be quitters and they will be accountable. Kids shouldn't even play if they don't love the game. All they do is let their teammates down. Thats not what I'm teaching. The way I look at it is , if you are going to be a bear ,be a daggum GRIZZLEY

I agree with Pujo, he knows the same few kids, now men who played on the 2001 and the 2002 Cloudland teams that had the chance to play at the next level in D2 and D3 teams and didn't becouse they were eather pushed to play by their parents or weight lifting and running in the off season made them sick of football. They just didn't have the drive to go to the next level. I don't know what is happening at Hampton but from what I am reading sounds to me like what I have seen the Highlanders do, 365 days of football and on top of that most kids play basketball and baseball with summer practice kids don't have time to grow up and be kids. Sometimes when you have great programs in football, basketball, and baseball the whole program has to rebound. Hampton had a great year last year in football and basketball with extended seasons and need to regroup.

It really just boils down to , do you love the game. Sports nowadays is a year around job. There are alot of things out there thats easier to do ,than to be a good athelete. I love sports and they are a great teacher for life, hard work , disapline, acccountability, the same things that it takes to be a successful adult. Its not for everyone, its too hard,

pujo was everyone at practice today for the dogs and any sickness and injury updates

is birchfield fo hv out?

They all made it back today ,so I guess were back in business. We are getting Zak back next week whitch will be a big plus. Its just been a rough year at Hampton. Having to play so many kids could be a plus in the long run. Regardless of what happens , I'm in it for the long haul. GETTTTTTTTURRRRRDUNNNN

Pujo, you and me see eye to eye when it comes to this subject. I love football so much that its almost driven me mad. I played every down my senior year with a broken hand and a fractured forearm and torn rotator cuff. If a man loves the game, he won't think to much about his aches and pains. I've had the privilege to play with some of the toughest people to ever put on the pads and a tough coach. I'm very upset with the direction of our football program and sometimes I may come across as a psycho, but I just want to win so very badly. Its killing me. I'm eat up with jealousy. :thumb:

    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
    • An FYI: To see how an opponent has done against another opponent since 2001- go to the game by clicking on one of the teams. Click the G beside the game. For example, Milan: The info will show you the previous matchups and other info.
    • All these college signees went yo other schools for 3 years, were getting college offers then transferred to Bearden. It’s not like this staff did much to develop them.    The BBall coaches son and the Seymour transfer were some of the most talented QBs in the region, and you guys developed them into QBs who might complete one pass a game.
