JOHNSON COUNTY AT ELIZABETHTON

The game I have waited for all year. Always check your chin strap, and buckle that helmet on good when the longhorns are coming to town. By far the hardest hitting team in the conference. (yeah Tn High your close this year, but the horns get the nod). This should be a good game if Cyclones get focused, and put the game back in P's hands. We saw what happened last week, when they finally turned him loose again. Lets mix it up this week keep em guessing, and score alot. We need to start the best lineman, and forget who the seniors are, and get to the playoffs. Last week was the fewest flags I have seen this year. good job rt side of the line, some big holes were opened up. Lt side needs to step it up. and the middle needs to be plugged. Humphrey will be a tough guy to block who is up to it? Horns have good speed, and can throw the ball, something they usually can't do well. secondary better be ready to cover the receivers, and not just prudohme. i know a few more up there who can catch. This game will be decided by turnovers. the fewest turnovers will win the game. I look for P to have a good game. The Defense HAS to shutdown Atwood. Tn high did a good job of it. Ends need to cut off the outside, and turn things back in. Big game needed from 41 44, I think the cyclone will do it and keep the playoff streak alive. A little help from central would be nice too. Go CYCLONES, but good luck to the horns. Hey Mike you got a spot in post season, rest Jessie a little for those games.. lol Yeah I know where you want me to stick it..ha ha I hear that Penley kid is a chip off the ol block so give him some playing time at ol ETOWN. I want to see him play..

If Betsy can slow Atwood down theyll have a chance. I pick J Co in this one, but they really havent won the big game yet in 4A, so therefore that could haunt them. Did Justin Harmon g2 J Co in junior high?

Justin played football and basketball 7th grade year at JCMS, but moved sometime during eighth.

The key in stopping Johnson Co is simple…shut Atwood down. Of course saying it and doing it are two different things as many have found out this year. They focus there whole offensive scheme around his success in running the ball. All the rest is just a smoke screen to try and keep the other team off balance. Atwood is a TOUGH, HARD running kid with good speed and if you don’t key on him he will hurt you quickly. If they can keep Atwood under 60 yards, and if Elizabethton’s O-line gives Preston time to throw and room to make plays, the Cyclones could make this one a nail biter. But I have to be honest…Elizabethton will have to be mentally prepared for this one or it will get out of hand, because you better believe the Longhorns are coming to play ball!! And after the loss to the Vikings, they are out to save face.

True that. When Preston puts the ball in your hand you must catch it! Who wants this one more? J County so to prove they are for real...or Betsy to prove they always have been and still are? Will be but yet another classic.

One thing is for sure...J County has not had to excuse themselves yet this year. No, they have not played 5A schools and yes they have played 2-3A schools but many others have also. The fact is they have played the same tough football week in and week out and this week will be no different. If they have anything they have consistancy which cannot be said for Betsy. I chose Betsy because of one endearing factor...Heart. Heart will win this game or the lack of will lose it. Betsy, do you have Heart? Remember, this game is 90% mental!

This is the NET game of the week, (D-B should handle Science Hill) Elizabethon has to stop Atwood and put pressure on the QB when he drops back. Johnson County needs Atwood to come back after a frustrating performance against the stengy THS defense. Also, the Longhorns must contain Preston Smith and put pressure on him all night. All in all it comes down to Preston Smith's playmaking ability against Jessie Atwood's (both depend on team's effort). These 2 Seniors will step up on their final regular season game. Smith has more motivation because if he loses, it will be his final game in the Orange and Black. O ya and it's in E Town. 14 straight playoff appearances on the line for the Cyclones.

    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
    • An FYI: To see how an opponent has done against another opponent since 2001- go to the game by clicking on one of the teams. Click the G beside the game. For example, Milan: The info will show you the previous matchups and other info.
    • All these college signees went yo other schools for 3 years, were getting college offers then transferred to Bearden. It’s not like this staff did much to develop them.    The BBall coaches son and the Seymour transfer were some of the most talented QBs in the region, and you guys developed them into QBs who might complete one pass a game.
