Morristown East & West

Just thought that I would share some information that I had gathered this weekend....

1. West has claimed that they will play at CNC this Friday against Unicoi County. It is not definite, but many of the higher ups in the school system believe that this will be the case. It costs 5 thousand to play there. Kills concessions for the band programs

2. East will play at Burke-Toney if this is the case. East believed that they would have played on Saturday afternoon until West claimed CNC for their game.

3. West was upset with East for holding their frosh game last week before West played Cherokee. The field was in terrible shape for the Trojans game. I do not blame West for being upset over that. (Please notice that a Cane fan said this) Varsity has to come first.

4. Burke-Toney is used for ALL of the following games: East Varsity Football, East JV Football, East Freshmen Football, West Varsity Football, West JV Football, West Freshmen Football, East Girls Soccer, West Girls Soccer. This is just the fall schedule. The spring brings both East Boys Soccer and West Boys Soccer. Do not forget that members of Hamblen County can rent out the stadium for special events for around $150. The system does try to keep people off of it as much as possible. They will not let the East Band practice on the field. It is a bad situation.

5. All Hamblen County residents need to look at Sunday's Tribune. Now we are talking about creating a third high school again. Their options include renovating the two and making them larger or creating a third. If they decide to create a third, then more football fields will become a must.

I would prefer that we put them back together. Most research says that 3 would be best, but they do not live here and see how East/West divides the town.

Here is what I would love to see done. Go out on 160 and build a school that would hold 4,000 students for growth. Name it Hamblen County High School and let the mascot be the Wildcats like the old middle school used to have. They wouls need to pick totally new colors. (No orange and no crimson) Bring the community back together. In my humble opinion, this would do much more for the community than most in power realize.

I understand. Johnson County's field is also used by others, so yeah our field may be muddy also at times, as was posted before. Any Idea when they will decide who will be where and when?

Thanks for any info.

Hugh Clement made that decision to play. East has no say. The Asst. director of schools made the call.

IQ is 127

Number when I played was 72

If it makes you feel more important to knock me then feel free to do so. BTW, not hiding behind a screen name because there is nothing to hide from. The whole comment about daddy's money was a joke at first but hey, if I paid for all kinds of stuff then maybe my son would have the inside track on a starting job too. Please deny that Wild has paid for things at West while his son has been there.

Funny again! Anyway, MWest has a tremendous following and support thru the many parents and fans in the QB Club. I don't know if MEast has the same level of support or not.

BTW, Wild played very little last year even though the starting senior QB had limited experience. Many schools start sophomore QBs, ( i.e. B. Ramsey at East).

This fact negates your questionable comment above. ( Inside track).

Come on 72, you can do better than this!

Mr. Wild, a personal friend of mine, is a dedicated booster of West. This is mostly due to the fact that he is an alumnus of West. He has been a part of the booster community at the school for a number of years, even before his children were at the school.

The suggestion that our coaching staff can be bought for playing time is very upsetting to me and a new low even for an East fan.

I hope that most of East has too much class to be part of your delusion, but I guess we will really never know the answer to that, will we?

As for West, we appreciate the time and effort given by all of our Boosters and would never dream of singling one out of the bunch. We are a team from the field to the stands and have proven it between the hashes as a friend told me the other night.

All I can say is good luck to East. Perhaps the saying one and done will not apply this year.

I don't care whom your personal friends are, what is upsetting to you and don't care how much class you think you have nor do I care how much you think we don't have. West parents ,student body and players like to talk about class but there is a whole lot more to it than talking about it.

72, I have it on good authority that the West coaching staff blamed East and not Mr. Clement. Yes, he is the one with final say, but West felt that we should have pulled out of that one on our own. I know that Don Woods called East upset over it.

Now on Friday it was 100 percent Mr. Johnson's call on if East and Boone played that game. He told me that himself. He and the athletic director made the call.

I wonder if West would have played if the roles were reversed? If their freshmen were undefeated, would they have played?

    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
    • An FYI: To see how an opponent has done against another opponent since 2001- go to the game by clicking on one of the teams. Click the G beside the game. For example, Milan: The info will show you the previous matchups and other info.
    • All these college signees went yo other schools for 3 years, were getting college offers then transferred to Bearden. It’s not like this staff did much to develop them.    The BBall coaches son and the Seymour transfer were some of the most talented QBs in the region, and you guys developed them into QBs who might complete one pass a game.
