Jeff Rutledge To BA ?

I will be very excited for him and our program if that pans out. He is a great kid and just a football junkie in general. Honestly it would be risky but well worth it. He would pour his heart and soul into the task. It would be a real challenge for him, at such a young age, to command the respect of much older assistants.

If CJR is really leaving MBA for BA, then I have to assume it is for many of the same reasons RB left. Why else would you make that move? I could understand if he went to a public school (new challenge), or to a smaller school (less pressure). But why to a rival school 20 miles away, playing in the same division? At least Ricky had the opportunity to build a team from scratch, and be a part of his kids' (boys and girls) education at Ensworth. JR will be walking right into a program that CF already built into a winner. I would speculate that it is either related to the faith-based mission of BA, or that he feels Gioia and company aren't giving him the necessary opportunity to win, and BA will give him that. Certainly he has never seemed unhappy to me....just interesting all around.

My personal opinion is that if Jeff hangs around "G" much longer he will begin to smell like the backside of a mule and Jeff is much to smart to allow that to happen. The best thing that could happen is for Jeff and Carlton to swap jobs. The "G-Man" and Carlton are one and the same and deserve one another.

With the blurb by Biddle in the Tennessean today, it sounds like this rumor was true. Now Biddle says it wont happen. What happened??

I cant see MBA being very happy with this.

Even if BA contacted Coach Rutledge...big deal. Reminds me of the scene in Godfather II where Michael Corleone is upset with Tom Hagan for getting an offer from a legtimate casino operating company. Hagan responds "...do I have to tell you about every offer I turn down?"

...not that I'm comparing MBA with organized crime! :thumb:

I talked to someone over T-giving I would consider "in the know" about all things MBA. His take was that there is a mutual interest and that it indeed relates to Rutlege's faith and BA's faith-based mission. To this person's knowledge, Rutlege and Gioia are on great terms.

Interestingly enough, his belief was that if Rutlege did indeed go to BA, that Jeff Brothers would be whom MBA sought as his replacement. Jeff Brothers is going to make a splash somewhere. As I recall, he played on one of those great BA teams in the late 80s and was an Academic All-SEC (if not All-American) as a multi-year starter at VU.

take that FWIW....

    • I don't believe they have anyone that is surbers caliber but a decent staff overall.

    • Congratulations to the Warrior baseball team winning the Region Championship.  Last night the football team beat Franklin Co 33-0 in their spring scrimmage. Warriors looked very good. Missing a few players who were playing baseball but still absolutely dominated. A lot of young ones got in halfway through the 3rd when the score reached 33-0. QB Tilton Pickett looked very sharp.  Sam Pickett is on another level this season. Seems to have put on 15 to 20 lbs in the off season and added a step as well. Transfer from last year Williamson caught numerous balls and is very elusive. Lots of athletes on this team. Defense was smothering and will only get better. The head coach from Sewanee was in attendance and offered 2 kids after the game. Could be a special year.
