Cloudland soundly defeated South Greene; the first such victory over the Lady Rebels by a Tri-County Seven team. The Lady Highlanders followed that with a huge conference, come-from-behind, six-point win in Baileyton. Those two big wins, and, considering the blowout win over Unicoi County, is enough to make the Lady Highlanders number one.

Elizabethton's home win over Unicoi County, though not as impressive as the blowout by Cloudland in Roan Mountain (*), keeps the Lady Cyclones atop the standings with the Lady Highlanders.

*Margins of victory are often very subjective. Elizabethton's win was over a Rival, Conference Opponent.

Coach Larry Weems implored, demanded, in spite of several bad passes, overthrown lobs, that the Lady Cyclones continually attack the basket. His, and his players' perseverance won the game.

Hampton won two conference games. The Lady Bulldogs won against Unaka, on Stoney Creek, and defeated University School in Johnson City. Two home games this week: David Crockett goes to Hampton for a Monday night game, and then Cloudland comes down from Roan Mountain Friday night.

Unaka played only one game, the disappointing loss to the Lady Bulldogs. The Lady Rangers play at North Greene Tuesday, then a home game Thursday with Unicoi County.

Happy Valley was blasted by Daniel Boone, but recovered against David Crockett and West Greene. Nice to see Sam Canter back in the scorebox; she had 13 points at West Greene. Summer Ward continues to play very well.

Johnson County - Steadily improving. Won the first quarter 18-13, before losing by 18 to South Greene. Huge challenge at Elizabethton Tuesday, then at West Greene Friday.

Cloudland definitely improved their stock this past week; however, the win over Unicoi was in November (same week they lost to Daniel Boone and TN High) while the lackluster showing at Newland is still too fresh for me to put them co-1.

Was Sam Canter injured, suspended or did she quit and then come back?

Hiatus. It happens.

I actually considered the Tournaments, and decided at the last minute . . . .NOT to penalize the Lady Cyclones for losing three tournament games.

More later. Trying to get to Hampton to see the Lady Bulldogs.

Daniel Boone and Tenn High arent 2 ordinary teams there very talented. Cloudland should have won both games. Hampton may very well beat us but if they do it will be our own fault. Avery tourn. was awful for us we stunk bad.....

1. Elizabethton (a bigger quality win)

2. Cloudland (one quality win (SG), and one good win (NG))

3. Unicoi (has been beaten by both Elizabethton and Cloudland)

4. Hampton (on the rise, but probably as far as they will get in the rankings)

5. Unaka (playing a little better)

6. Happy Valley (good win against West Greene, but must prove they can win the bigger games)

7. Johnson County (doing as well as they can)

The top two teams seem to be sperating themselves from the rest. Unicoi is very capable of being the number one team but must prove themselves. Hampton has improved the most of any of the teams while Happy Valley has probably been the biggest disappointment. Unaka is still a work in progress a long with Johnson County.

Krich, I'm a Lady Highlander fan til the end, but the Avery tourn. and Elizabethton's tournament were on 2 different levels. One of the teams Elizabethton lost to was ranked in the nation. No, they didn't do well, but thats to be considered when you look at the competition. Cloudland, meanwhile, stunk it up in the Avery tournament. A tournament they should have won, but they chose to fight among themselves instead of playing team ball. The coach needs to get control, or there will be another youth club team. Don't want to go through that again. :thumb:
