Recommended Posts

OK non Riverdale players...The emerson kid from Lincoln County spnecer gulmire from Oak Ridge and his brother that played QB against us in the semi final game and number 2 they had a great connection...i dont know how long it has been but coffee county had a big RB that was fun to watch that may be further back than 04...Sonny Gray been watching him for a long time still wished he came to RIVERDALE...the LB from smyrna I think his name is Day you could tell a big difference when he was in there (he did not play the first game against us)the RB from lavergne grimes he was exciting he could break it at any moment unfortunatly he didnt get too many creases to run through...

Tyler maples....the most electrifying player ive seen in the state of tennessee... i think they said he scored once every four times he touched the ball, thats impressive

Agreed!! Every time he touched the ball he was a threat to score, especially on punt returns. Nice kid too.

i always enjoyed watching #25 Bradley James, from mo-west, break those long returns back! it seems as though he averaged about a million yards when he returned a kick! he had to set some kind of return record or something! does anyone know?

Since 04, and a few have mentioned him already; Wilson Cates. Livingston Acad. Terrific athlete. Very smart. One of the few I have seen at the HS level that could control a game without being spectacular. In the 05 championship against Lipscomb it was like wacthing Chinese water torture. From the QB spot he was always in 2nd and 4 or better. He checked off quite a bit. Never jumpy. On defense, he absolutely put not only himself, but others in position to make play after play. Kid just seemed to have not only a tremendous will to win, but a very advanced knowledge of the game. I remember telling the other old guy I was with that the last one I saw like that was in the Ohio state chamionship game when a "smaller" school, Miami Trace won it with a QB by the name of Art Schleister who went on to be the Hiesman runner-up the year Charles White from USC won it. I read later where the Cates kid signed with Princeton, and I thought "perfect."

No....the big running back he was probably referring to was Chris Elam back in 97.....he was absolutely amazing! Best running back to ever grace the fields at Coffee County...no contest!

I remember him he was a beast he didnt get to play on college did he?

He wound up playing at West Ga had a great career there he set the dII single season touchdown record.

If he would have had better grades he would have been at ut.. they wanted him bad but.... chris was an amazing runningback his senior season was the best year we ever had we finished second in the region to riverdale and if i remember right we were one of the only to teams to give riverdale a game that year.

    • Playing high school sports is a privilege not a right.  The college did not have to rescind the scholarship.  Scholarship offers are pulled all the time for a number of reasons. That was 100% their choice.  A coach can keep, cut, or dismiss any player that they want to without reason anytime they want.  Is that the right way to run a program?? I don't think that it is, but these are the facts of the matter. This case has absolutely 0% chance of going in the plaintiff's favor. Futhermore, I'd imagine that these administrators and the coach are a part of some teaching or coaching organization that will cover at least 1 million dollars each in legal fees. Obviously the kid and her family feel like there were "damages" thus the lawsuit.  Unfortunately, the law is not on their side in this case.
    • Maryville will recapture the loses from last year against West, Bradley and Farragut. The Bearden game will be the tough one but I look for the wheels to come off that ride somewhere down the road because of all the crap that goes on there. I know to many parents there and some of the things I've been told and some of the post a few of them have made on facebook. They all can't be liars.
    • If Heritage moves down and Alcoa moves up the best thing for Heritage is to do what William Blount did when theystopped playing Maryville or meet certain defeat. Honestly can't see Alcoa not moving up the way the county is growing. Might be in the Mountaineers best interest to stay in 5A because none of those teams on their schedule are anything close to Alcoa.
    • I say over as well. Barney, regarding the move to 4A, will the cross-town blowhards move up as well??
