BUBBA61
Can anyone give me a recap? Hard to believe there is no thread for this game.
HSfootball54
Recap: Webb scored more than CAK! Scoring summary: Webb scored on a 80 plus yard rush in the first quarter 7-0 Webb scored on a 50 yard plus drive eating up clock, 14-0 CAK moved the ball around 70 yards on around 10 plays capped with a Chris Cates scramble for a short TD: 14-7 Webb drove the ball 50 plus yards eating up at least 5 min of clock scoring on a pass with around 2 min before the half: Webb 21-7 at the half Webb got the kickoff to start the second half. Had a fumble on a center QB exchange CAK recovered Cak ran 5 plays capped off by a Cates to Bennett pass to bring the score to 21-14. I thought the momentum was about to switch in CAK's Favor but on well read the next score and you will see what happened. Webb got the ball on the kick off and on the first play they ran a sweep to the house around 60 yards I would say: 28-14 Fourth Quarter Webb QB scrambling found a receiver who cut back against the grain and scored from around 20 yards on the pass: 35-14 Cates forced a pass to Bennett where a Webb Linebacker was spying, broke on the ball and took the interception around 70 Yards for the last TD. 42-14 Webb was rushing 4 or 5 guys and dropping 6 into covearage. CAK did not complete a pass to a "receiver" until mid third quarter, Webb played great pass D. Number 1 from Webb had to of had over 200 yards rushing. CAK lost Linebacker Wes Stooksbury sometime early in the second quarter, I understand he was taken to the hospital, not sure what was wrong with him, but knowing that young man it must be somewhat serious, he is a tough player and not the type to even come out of the game if it is up to him. Cak also had D lineman Berube out with a neck injury and Lost D lineman Seth Burdette on the opening kickoff of the second half if I remember correctly. His knee was braced with one of those braces they usually put on for an ACL tear and he was on crutches. They were forced to put Ritchie at DE and play a freshman at DT for much of the second half. Fortner I believe is the freshmans name. I was impressed with his playing considering the quality of Webb's line and his lack of varsity playing time. Webb played ball contol offense. Ran the ball well and there defense played well. CAK was able to move the ball rushing, but Cates had the worst performance I can remember him having in a long time. He threw 2 interceptions and most of his completions were dump off passes to the TB or FB out of the backfield. Bennett had a good game receiving and had his usual tackles. Kolinski averaged over 5 yards per carry. Webb just played a good game on offense and defense and when the breaks came their way they took advantage of them. As far as there not being a post there was but it got stupid with trash talking and was removed. The good thing is CAK has a bye week next week and will have some time to hopefully get these bumps and bruises healed up. But the bad news is CAK's next game is against Alcoa. Tough loss, Webb made the plays when they had to and CAK's defense gave up to many big plays. I was really impressed with Webbs overall team speed. There lineman were quick and physical. It is hard to prepare for the Wing T. CAK had seen it against Cherokee but Webb and Catholic are the two best teams at running it in East TN, maybe in the state. I was actually surprised this game was pretty clean, besides one unsportsmanlike on Webb. I thought with these two school being so close and with all the trash talking that had taken place that this would turn into a fist fight. From the stands it looked like both teams played a pretty classy game, but you never know what goes on at the bottom of those piles. The scoreboard said 42-14, but it felt like a closer game than that. When CAK got down 21 points in the fourth quarter it was kind of obvious that Webb was going to win, Webbs offense eats up a lot of time and CAK's passing game was just not clicking tonight. A lot of that had to do with Webbs Defensive play. I dont believe in good losses, but hopefully CAK will take the lessons from this game and use it as a growing experience. Breck Ellison was honored before the game, he passed away this past year and was instramental in the starting of the CAK football program. He played football at Webb in high school and it was a touching ceremony in honor of the late Mr. Ellison. The game was played in his memory from a CAK stand point. dwps2
Very good game, i agree with the above post, really good recap. Even though it wasnt that close at the end both teams played hard the whole game which made it exciting. CAK's defense just couldnt match webb's offense physically as far as i could see. CAK's offense just couldnt get in rythym. 9 had some good runs while bennett had some good catches out of the backfield. webb's defense was very strong. Good luck to both teams the rest of the year. HSfootball54
I heard that Stooksbury had a bad break of his arm, he is scheduled for surgery on Monday, lets all keep him in our thoughts, he is a Senior who had put a lot into this football team. Heard Burdette is having an MRI on Monday. Lets keep our fingers crossed that it is just a sprained knee and nothing more serious. Good Luck to Webb the rest of the season. I hope both of these teams will continue to play well and have a deep run into the playoffs. CAK is going to have to respond to this loss and not let Webb beat them twice. The next four games are all region and due to new rules in 2A only 3 teams from each region are gauranteed a spot in the playoffs. CAK still has a tough row to hoe, with games against Alcoa, Sweetwater, Rockwood and a Oliver Springs team who seems to be improving each week. CAK can only afford to loose one of these final four regional games to ensure themselves a playoff spot. 2 losses and then it will start coming down to who beat who and the tie breakers. Did Webb come out of the game healthy? I will disagree with the above post in one aspect, I do not think the physical play of Webb was the deciding factor. Webb did not gain many yards up the middle, which is where you will see a physical team eat up the other team, Webbs big plays came on speed sweeps where number 1 was getting the handoff running full speed and got the corner on CAK. I believe it was the overall team speed that was the difference in the game. CAK was also able to run the ball with Kolinski, so the O line did a nice job of creating some holes, but the receivers were blanketed all night long. AnythingIsPossible
GREAT JOB WEBB!!! Great team effort...the Freshman QB Wormsley for Webb did an outstanding job running the Offense....Bet there is not any trash talking from CAK today....great way to shut that up! ruse?
Figured this might happen. Called Webb by 14+. Not slamming, just still a delta between the two programs in terms of talent, depth, scheduling. CAK will get there. They are developing a nice feeder program, athletic department, and a buzz about the program. Webb had a dsitinct advantage regarding the level of competition played prior to last nights game, IMO. When you have played teams like AE, Catholic, PJ-2, and Ensworth; you will be more prepared than having played Page, Cherokee, Boyd B., and Wartburg. In time CAK, in time. Next up, Alcoa. ruse? KCHSCoach
with all the big talk that was coming out of CAK, way to go spartans! maybe CAK might play Catholic
TheLivingLegend
It sounds like you are correct Knoxville Catholic coach. CAK was awfully confident and I even thought they would pull the upset, but apparently they still are a little ways away from being really good. PowerSweep
CAK will never play Catholic, period. One thing I'd like to know, why didn't CAK give the ball to #9 about 25-30 times? It was obvious their QB was off but they kept trying to pass.
dwps2
I agree. CAK needed to run the ball more. Webb killed CAK's air attack and stopped the run pretty well but #9 had a couple +10 runs and a lot of 4-5 yd. carries. Seemed to me CAK would put themselves in situations that only allowed them to pass, a lot of 2-10 and 3-long, that allowed webb to just drop back. A ton of credit to the webb defense though, especially the d-line, held the line of scrimmage and moderately stopped the run while gettin enough pressure on 12 to make it a little uncomfortable when they dropped back 6-7 defensive backs.
